I don't know about anyone else, but I'm quite a fan of KT Turnstall myself.
My favourite is Black Horse and A Cherry Tree. Does anyone else like KT Turnstall?

I bought Kris Allen's Cd, through iTunes, a few days ago.
I'm looking through my music and I decided to make a search for Jon Foreman. I of course got his own songs and Switchfoot's as well-
but to my surprise I got one of Kris Allen's songs as well: Lifetime.
Turns out Jon Foreman helped compose that one. Just noting in case anyone cares. It's a nice song.
AH. AH. AH.
I am really excited right now.
Jon Foreman somehow found my cover of Your Love Is A Song that I played on the piano and he mentioned it on Switchfoot's twitter!
Look... http://twitter.com/switchfoot/status/5895535119
I really hope this isn't too off topic, I'm just so excited! Lol! This is like de ja vue with Tenth Avenue North kind of! I have the sudden desire to meet Switchfoot and hear them live now
Anyway, um... how do I make this more on topic.
My username on the SF forums is theheartrender.
Okay, I guess I'll write a little something about Hello Hurricane, now that I've listened to it more times. It seems that the overarching theme throughout the album is love. Almost all the tracks mention some sort of love.
Mess of me: "it's hard to free the ones you love / oh when you can't forgive yourself"
Your Love Is A Song: kinda obvious, lol. "Your love is a symphony, all around me, running through me"
The Sound: "Love is the final fight" / "There is no song louder than love"
Enough To Let Me Go: also obvious.. "Do you love me enough to let me go?"
Free: "When I try to reach above / I only hurt the ones I love"
Hello Hurricane: "Hello hurricane, you can't silence my love"
Always: "Hallelujah, I'm in love again"
Bullet Soul: "Love is the one true innovation / Love is the only art"
Yet: "If it doesn't break your heart, it isn't love"
Sing It Out: "my world is a lie that's come true / and I fall in love with the ones that run me through / when all along all I need is You"
So yeah... just listening to the whole album again that theme really stuck out to me. It makes the whole work very cohesive.
I TOTALLY freaked out when I saw his twitter post! And, just to let you know, they NEVER say anything like that! EVER! That's probably the first time they have ever liked a SF cover! No joke!

Yeah, it's just like when Mike liked your covers! Btw, they are amazing live! I only saw them once, but it was an indescribable night! I didn't meet them or anything though. they're coming my town early next year, but I don't think I'll be able to see them. I hope you can see them though!

That's true, and each album has it's own theme. It think it was what God had been teaching them: That His love is stronger than any storm we face. "Hello Hurricane, you're not enough, you can't silence my love!" <3
I found you on the SF forum, by the way! I signed up as Echo To The Sky, but I can't edit my profile for some reason!
Yet: "If it doesn't break your heart, it isn't love"
I think that's my favorite line of the whole album! So true...
I'm glad you like the EP's narnian1! I think it's just me, but his music really speaks to me, and I wanted to share that with all of you.
each song brings something I like but often I like to hear the songs within the Cd where they sound much better. Singling them apart often doesn't work the same for me.
That's true! I got all the songs at different times though, so I spoiled it! For me, the order didn't matter much. I'm not sure why...
I learned how to play the guitar riff of The Blues, and it is so beautiful. hope that's not too of topic!
Kat, I got some RK songs you recommended, and I didn't hear them all, but my favorites were Give Until There's Nothing Left, and Come Right Out And Say It, and I Don't Need A Soul. They were really catchy!

How on earth did he find it? Wow..
It's really good btw, I just listened to it.
So beautiful..
I'm going to go listen to the actual song now.

They don't, seriously!? Wow... no way!! Ahh! I just got even more excited. Haha.

Aww, that's too bad! And it's too bad you can't hear them next year. Gr, Switchfoot isn't coming to Iowa any time soon as far as I know, so I'll just have to keep waiting.

What are some of the other albums' themes? I don't have any other full albums besides Hello Hurricane I love the title track! But I really love all of them which is why I like the album so much cause all the songs are good! I might even actually be able to play almost the whole thing for my mom, if I skip Mess Of Me, The Sound, and Bullet Soul. (too heavy for her )
Oh, cool! Hm, I think you can't edit your info until the admin has "confirmed" your account or whatever. You can't post either. It didn't take too long (less than a day) for me though so you should be able to soon.
I love that line as well! The first time I saw it was when Mike Donehey tweeted it!
I'm glad you liked the RK songs! I love those ones! Give is a really beautiful song and they sound so good when they sing the "give, give, give"s
Thanks Aslans Country!
How on earth did he find it? Wow..
I'm really not sure, but he was either searching on youtube for the song (lol I don't know why he would do that) or he saw my post on the Switchfoot forum. I know the guys have posted on the forum in the past but really only a couple times and I'm sure they don't lurk around the forum a ton like the fans do
Hello Hurricane,
I'm loving it so far. I've had "The Sound" for some time and have already stated that I love it.
Mess of Me- I love the lyrics, the chorus, all of it. amazing all around.
Your Love is a Song, yup- another amazing song. I will surely be listening to these songs until I get sick of them... and then some more still.
Those three are my favorite songs on the Cd so far.
I will give the other songs a better listen before I comment on them.
Glad you're enjoying HH!
Anyone heard of Lights? She's going to tour w/ Owl City next year. Their music is pretty similar. Her most popular song, Saviour, is a free mp3 on amazon right now! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002N8 ... =dm_ty_trk I just love her voice, there's something so sweet about it.
Narnian1: awwwww, I am so sad that you find Skillet's CD "Awake" boring!
I don't know about anyone else, but when I heard "Awake" I was amazed! before it came out, I was thinking, "How are they ever going to top Comatose?" but then "Awake" came out and I was like: "Wow! they got even better!" Skillet is amazing at what they do!
oh, by the way, while "Comatose" is certified gold, "Awake" is already getting a ton of albums sold and is expected to do even better than "Comatose"! how cool is that! i say it is VERY cool!
yay for Skillet!

Narnian1: awwwww, I am so sad that you find Skillet's CD "Awake" boring!
I wouldn't say it's boring, just aside of Hero, the songs haven't awed me yet,
I will give it some more listens on youtube in the future to see if I'd like to buy the CD. Often I hear songs and don't like them, then one day I get the urge for them and love them.
I have a song I love now, but it took me 10 years to finally see what was so great about it and the funny thing is I hadn't even listened to it in that time-
I just somehow remembered about the song and had to buy it.
I have others that took 2-3 years, including some by Mercy Me.
It's just the way things happen with me, I guess it's the things I've gone through and such- it is after that I can appreciate certain songs.

I do that all the time!
What are some of the other albums' themes?
Each song has it's own deep meaning, but there are simple themes that run through each album. I'll try to make this as short as possible! Also if you go to Land Of Broken Hearts, you can read the stories behind each song. The Song Fun Fact section is really interesting too. It says the REAL story behind the song 24.
With Legend Of Chin, it was their first album, and they were still in high school/ college when they wrote it, so it was mostly about figuring out life, and purpose, and depending on God to take them down the right path. Also the sadness of the lives people without God leave, and the pathetic states of children and society with no purpose.
In New Way To Be Human it's about becoming more than what people are settling for. With all of our trends and things that we have, were still incomplete. We still don't have what makes us have true joy.
Learning To Breathe is about learning to breathe. It's about our walk with God, and how he helps us each time we fall. How his mercy is how we live.
The Beautiful Letdown is about the bigger meaning of life, and striving or God's purpose of our lives, and realizing that we don't belong on this earth. It's also about the moment we surrender ourselves to God. Hence the title the Beautiful Letdown.
Nothing Is Sound is about 2 things, in my opinion. 3 songs are about how our nation has gone down a path of becoming troubled, lonely souls, and how morals once held high are no longer noticed. But the rest of the songs are quite different. They talk about how special a child is in God's sight (Golden), how the darkness in the world shows that there is a God, and a bigger light (The Shadow Proves The Sunshine), God's redemption plan and his love or us, even when we runaway, and give ourselves away to meaningless things (Daisy).
Oh! Gravity. mmmmmm, can't really say there is a theme to this album. Each song is unique and about different things. Oh! Gravity is about the problems in the world, and asks the question, if the law of gravity says that everything should stay together, then why do we have all of this trouble in our world. It ends with Let Your Love Be Strong, that is about how when everything in our world turns wrong, to stay strong through the storms, and to let your world rest on His love.
But you might listen to their music and get something totally different out of it! That's just what it means to me. Don't be in a rush to listen to all of their songs though! Potential Switchfoot overload!
By the way, Jon wrote Dare You To Move while living in his parents house. He had dropped out of college to pursue a music career, and I'm guessing he was around 22-24.

Awake is my favourite album by Skillet. (although it's not like I've heard much of their older stuff )Some of the songs I really don't like - like It's Not Me It's You, and Sometimes. Some of them I'm sorta okay about but I don't love them, and some I absolutely love. Haha.. this doesn't really sound like my favourite album.. but it is.
Isn't the reason people don't like Awake because they think Skillet changed style too much? I wouldn't know, because I didn't discover them until the beginning of 2009 or something.. but that's what I read..

Narnian1: yeah, i know what you mean about needing time for some songs that you first don't like and then you do! I have done that too!
Aslans Country: I'm not sure about people liking or not liking Awake, but I love it! but I have to say that Comatose is my favorite, and Awake is my second favorite of Skillet's CDs!
I may be weird (I don't think I am..... ) but I have heard every single Skillet song (I have all of their CDs) and I love every single song that Skillet has written! a friend of mine asked me once what my favorite Skillet song was and I said: "All of them!"
I just can't help it..... I really do love ALL of Skillet's songs!

@Aslans Country: Yes, some people don't like Comatose and Awake as well because they think that Skillet is becoming more... "secular" I guess.
I somewhat agree--I appreciated a lot of their older lyrics more. I don't really like "It's Not Me It's You" either... because the lyrics are so--hateful I guess.
So. As for style, I'd say they've really improved! I like their newer stuff (last 3-5 CDs) better then the first 1-2. *shrug* (The first two are "Skillet" and "Hey You, I love Your Soul")
But as far as lyrics go--I like the lyrics more of "You Are My Hope" then "It's not Me it's You." I love "Awake and Alive" and "Hero" though.
So yeah. [/ramble]

Yeah.. I do like the lyrics more from the older ones that I've heard.. but I like the music from Comatose and Awake more.
Liberty Hoffman, lol, having every song on the album doesn't make you weird. I wish I could appreciate all Skillet songs as much as you do.
