*Resurrects this thread from 6 pages back and sets about doing some thread-cleaning (dusting, opening windows, etc.)*

Well, it's been forever since we've had any active here..... :( Lately I have been busy with school, Life and working on my soundtrack review blog (which is linked to in my sig).

Since I posted here last I have bought two new albums and am expecting a third to arrive sometime soon (late Christmas gift).
------------------------------

Rambo II. Jerry Goldsmith, 1985.

A great mid 80's action score from one of the masters. This is a more action packed continuation of the more suspense laden First Blood in 1982, also by Goldsmith. Goldsmith does an excellent job of carrying over the base themes/motifs while also introducing several new ones including the memorable "Hero theme" that is all over the score.

Highly recommended for action score fans. 4 1/2- 5
----------------

Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader. David Arnold, 2010.

A fantasy score that slowly grows on you, though not quite as good as I was hoping it would be. Still, a solid work from Arnold. It's nice to hear hilm return to his mid 90's style after so many nearly minimilist scores of late.

Recommend. 4/5
-----------------

Clash of the Titans. Laurence Rosenthal, 1981.

This is the CD that is on it's way. It's a 2-disc set of the entire 90 minute score, digitally remastered with in-depth liner notes. Can't wait for this to come in!!! :D
------------------------

I noticed Last of the Mohicans mentioned a few posts earlier. I recently watched the movie and enjoyed it. I thought the score was O.K, though highly repetitive and unfitting for certain scenes. All the violin/fiddle music during the climax sounded..... odd. :-

O.K, I've rambled on enough. :p

I love the Narnia soundtracks and the LotR soundtracks. That's about it! My fave songs are

Bombing Raids
Into the Wardrobe
Concerning Hobbits
Arwen's Music (haha, so unofficial!)
And...oh yes, the Shelob music! Frodo, look out!

*knows that everyone knows where she stands about Frodo* ;))

Right now I've been listening to two new soundtracks on YouTube, Black Swan and Tron Legacy and really enjoying both, despite how radically different they are. Black Swan is a lovely mixture of Tchaikovsky's music and original music composed by Clint Mantell. Tron Legacy is another genre of music entirely, the proper name I'm not certain of. ;)) Electronica? Techno? *shrugs* I don't normally listen to that sort of thing, but this is really good. Very musically epic.

I am now fond of The Young Victoria soundtrack. It really is very soothing and the compositions are great. Other one is Pirates of the Caribbean Soundtrack because the music is kind of my type, with the fast rhythm and great mix of pirate and "classical music".

I love the VotDT soundtrack! :D

and the "Amazing Grace" (music: David Arnold, directed by Michael Apted) soundtrack! :D :D

I've been wondering, do you think David Arnold used the main theme from Amazing Grace in Dawn Treader? I heard it used a lot (I also thought I heard the beginning of one of the Pirates of the Caribbean themes before Edmund and Caspian's "duel", so maybe I was just hearing things :P), but I haven't listened to the Amazing Grace soundtrack in a while, and I only saw the movie once so I haven't gotten to double check.

After viewing a LotR video that someone created set to "Requiem for a Tower", I ended up buying the Requiem for a Tower/Dream EP. I've read more than a few comments that stated "Requiem for a Tower" could make anything epic and I believe it. "Requiem for a Dream" is pretty incredible too, less bombastic and more emotional and haunting.

I agree completely (especially about how it can make anything epic). I got Requiem for a Dream accidentally while looking for Requiem for a Tower, but I'm really glad now that I got it.

The two scores I've been listening too a lot lately are Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 composed by Alexandre Desplat and Inception. I haven't listened to the complete album straight through for Deathly Hallows yet, but there are some really fantastic tracks. My favorites are Obliviate (I really love this one, I think it fits perfectly with the beginning of the movie), Snape to Malfoy Manor, Dobby, Ministry of Magic (I feel like the beginning of this one sounds like the beginning of a weather report, but it works brilliantly), Godric's Hollow Graveyard, Lovegood, Rescuing Hermione, and The Elder Wand. It's a little quiet at times, but I think it's a great score.

As much as I like Inception I agree with most of your points PrinceCor. From listening to the music in the movies, I liked The Dark Knight more, and certain tracks can get a little long because there's so much repetition, but some tracks I really like listening to (It all seems to fit together on the album well too). Time is by far my favorite track. I love how it slowly crescendos, then goes straight into a beautifully simple piano. I think it may be one of my favorite soundtrack tracks in a while.

Also, I've been wanting to get The Dark Knight soundtrack for a while, and I was wondering whether it was worth it to get the extended edition? It looked like a lot of remixes on Amazon, but I wasn't sure.

Inception is an odd little album. It has some amazing "epic" tracks, but as a whole is a bit boring with all the meandering that the strings do. Still, Time, Waiting for a Train and Dream is Collapsing are great pieces. Especially when you turn the volume up a little too loud. m/ :p ;))

As for TDK albums, I would strongly recommend sticking with the standard CD release. It's a great album presentation and has all the best moments configured into great little suites. :-bd The 2-disc set is good in that it has more music, but you're really not getting anything "really great" in the extras. It's not like the LotR CR or Star Wars Original Trilogy CD's. :|

^^ well, I considered your question and listened to both soundtracks side by side.....I don't think he did. when I listen to both soundtracks separately, they sound different! I can see similarities, but nothing the same.
does that answer your question? :D

Well, in film score news we now have the nominees for Best Original Score according to the Academy Awards:

How to Train Your Dragon Composer: John Powell
Inception Composer: Hans Zimmer
The Kings Speech Composer: Alexandre Desplat
127 Hours Composer: A.R Rahman
The Social Network Composer: Trent Reznor
----------------------------------------------------------

So, has anyone else heard any of these scores and what do ya'll think? Personally, I'm very pleased to see HTTYD got nominated though I fear it will lose to the abominable Social Network. /:)

I love the HTTYD score (along with the rest of the movie.)
But yes, I think it will lose to the Social Network (along with most everything else.) <.<
