MissAravis, from what I've gathered, he was very famous in Paris during the baroque era. So far, I've listened to a lot of his harp pieces and a few songs from his opera.

OK, my year in music for 2009:
Top five favorite albums overall:
1. Jars of Clay, "The Long Fall Back to Earth".
If you buy one album from this list, this is the one to get.
2. Relient K, "Forget and Not Slow Down".
Heartbreaking and yet hopeful, each song is based on a single real life, painful breakup. Relient K even still continues to improve.
3. Killswitch Engage, "As Daylight Dies".
OK, this is not actually a 2009 album but it was rotated heavily on my iPod. One of the best metal albums I've ever heard.
4. And Then There Were None, "Who Speaks for Planet Earth?"
Lush techno music with cryptic yet beautiful lyrics.
5. Owl City, "Ocean Eyes".
Sweet and gentle techno, also with sometime cryptic yet always beautiful lyrics. One of the smash hits of 2009 that deserved the attention.
6. Oh Sleeper, "Son of the Morning".
http://concordgrandview.info/blogs/true ... thumb.jpeg
Brutal metalcore concept album about Satan's rebellion and downfall. The lyrics are dark, yet stunning and truthful.
7. Emery, "In Shallow Seas We Sail".
http://www.entshaing.com/wp-content/upl ... 042jwy.jpg
Unbelievably talented band with two stunning lead vocalists. This is also mostly metal, but has a level of intimacy and accessibility that defies most pop.
8. Regina Spektor, "Far".
http://music4humans.files.wordpress.com ... or-far.jpg
This girl has incredible vocal ability. Her songs are soft, though, and poetic, often veiled in metaphors. Sweet, occasionally dark, and always haunting.
9. U2, "No Line on the Horizon".
http://blog.echoenduring.com/wp-content ... orizon.jpg
U2 is overrated, but they're still an excellent band. This isn't their best album, but it adds a few more great songs to the U2 canon, especially "I'll go Crazy if I Don't go Crazy Tonight."
10. The Devil Wears Prada, "With Roots Above and Branches Below".
http://www.spirit-of-metal.com/les%20go ... 0Below.jpg
This album is fun--for about three songs. But then it all just blends together. Still, metal heads will certainly dig it.
Liberty: An interview with John Cooper? Awesomeness.
Avatar by Wunderkind_Lucy!
Liberty: I very much enjoy The Classic Crime. I own Albatross and like a lot of the tracks from The Silver Cord especially "Abracadavers".
I wasn't very familiar with popular bands until I started reading this thread.
I wouldn't exactly say that any of the musicians we discuss here regularly are all that popular except for Relient K and Switchfoot maybe. And Owl City.
Kat: As loathe as I am to give up my secrets, I find a lot of my music from the blog The Album Project. The admin of that blog and I have very similar taste, though his is broader than mine. He has a lot of great bands to recommend and I definitely came to love Freelance Whales, Paper Route, MuteMath, Fairground, and Seabird thanks to his influence.
would this be that blog? http://thealbumproject.net/
I watched a live chat with Skillet and in it they said that "yes we like Relient K, they're great!" !!! Made my day
here are some $5 albums on Amazon and CBD!

I didn't know that Falling Up came out with anything in 2009! thanks, Kat!
I like your siggy, btw!
No prob! From what I've listened to off of it, it's extremely far out compared to Crashings and the earlier stuff, but you may like it.. who knows.
And thanks!

Ah, that must be why I've heard his name..because of the harp pieces. Do you have any in particular that you like (of the harp pieces)?

Right, I was thinking the same thing... the bands that are popular are the ones we already knew about

Well, thank you so much then for sharing your secret! I've been meaning to listen to Paper Route for a while. What are some of your favorites from them?
here's an interview with Adam Young!

I put some Falling Up songs on my iTunes wishlist (I mainly just put things in there I want to listen to, lol, so there's also some Copeland songs on there) and I was wondering, what kind of genre are they exactly. The wat they are described they kind of sound like electronica/pop...kinda...
I've actually read that interview before!
Like I said earlier, it's hard to define Falling Up's style. Their older stuff is generally heavier, more straight-forward, and not so much weirdness... a bit of Exit lights (2006) and then Captiva (2007) I feel are their transition point into the more experimental realm.
But yeah, they do incorporate electronic elements into their music. They're certainly not pop. Much of their music has an alt rock sound, some is nu-metal. I'm still trying to figure out how to describe Fangs... I should probably listen to it a bit more. It's like a concept/story album describing some sci-fi occurrences... lol. They do a lot of stuff is my point
aah ok, differing styles. That's cool! *moves them further up her "listen-to" list *
I had a dissapointment today when an package from CBD arrived. I rip it open expecting to see my CDs but instead find a late Christmas present from my sister to my dad. She's off wrapping it now, and I'm sitting here depressed .
Kate: cool! I am glad you like The Classic Crime! did you know that the lead singer of The Classic Crime and the lead singer of Anberlin started an organization in Haiti to help abandoned and homeless children?

Glenstorm: That's the one. Blogger Tyler is one of the best unofficial music reviewers around. Thanks for the interview. Maybe I should subscribe to Relevant magazine... They have some good stuff. Who knew that Zachary Levi hosts a home church in his house?! Not me! And book reviews...
Kat: Paper Route reminds me a lot of a more subtle version of Mute Math. I like the songs "Carousel", "Are We All Forgotten" and "The Last Time" best. But they're all good.
Anyone like Number One Gun?
And I'm officially a big fan of The Hoodies now.
Only one month until Fair's new album!
I have never heard Number One Gun's music. what kind of music do they play?
