I really like Mess Of Me! :D I just listened to it! Rats, now I want to buy it, but I hardly have any iTunes gift money left, because I just spent it on...
The Rocket Summer's new EP that came out today - called "You Gotta Believe". It's really really really good. Such a shame not more people know about Bryce Avary. This guy's just amazing. He plays all the instruments (guitars, bass, piano, drums, vocals) on his CDs. But maaan, back to the EP - all the songs are excellent!!!!! (it has 4 songs on it). Very well done. I especially love the songs "Hills and Valleys" and "Light." I highly recommend it to anyone!
I wish I had discovered him sooner!

Deas Vail's new album Birds & Cages came out today and I've already listened to it several times and all I can say is that if you've ever had any liking for the melodic piano alt. rock genre, please please check them out. Nearly ever song is melodically surprising and painstakingly crafted to reach near perfection. And almost all of them are elegant and gorgeous. Plus! Mono Vs. Stereo (their record label) has one of the best songs, "Cages" up for free download here. (Also, check out the song "Birds" to hear Matt Thiessen do guest vocals. That man can sing high. Way higher than he lets on from Relient K)

Also, I heard the new Seabird single and it's quite good. It doesn't show much growth from the previous CD, but maybe the other songs will.

Has anyone heard of the album Hello Hurricane, by Switchfoot? It's their seventh studio release, to be released November 10th.

As most of you know, Switchfoot is the band that did the song "This Is Home" that appeared on the Narnia soundtrack. While I wasn't the biggest fan of that song, but I do think they are a consistently solid rock band with a positive message.

According to Wikipedia:

"Mess of Me" is a song written and recorded by the alternative rock band Switchfoot and is to be the lead single off their seventh studio album, Hello Hurricane. It was shipped to Modern Rock/Alternative, Mainstream rock, and Active rock formats, while a music video will be worked to all applicable outlets. ....The song is a protest against society's obsession with the pharmaceutical industry, which has become the new way to "attain never-ending, everlasting, abundant life" according to Foreman. [10] Often misconstrued as an anti-drug song, it is rather a harsh commentary on the culture's need to live forever, using drugs as a means to that end, and about the emptiness of our culture.

More information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mess_of_Me
Check out info on the album here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hello_Hurricane

It has already climbed the charts to #37 on the Billboard Alternative Songs. That's pretty solid, I think.

Also, check out 30-second song clips of the album here: http://www.purashop.com/Shop/Products/1 ... ORDER.aspx

Also, check out the music video for "Mess of Me" there!

Which song stands out the most? I think "Needle and Haystack Life" (w/ its soaring vocals near the end), "Bullet Soul," or "Free" probably sounds the most interesting.

I know, I know -- this isn't very Narnia-related, and will probably be deleted in a few hours. Oh well. At least I tried.
______
Tracklisting (according to wiki; Purashop titles are slightly different)
1. Needle and Haystack Life
2. Mess of Me
3. Your Love is A Song
4. The Sound (John M. Perkins' Blues)
5. Enough to Let Me Go
6. Free
7. Hello Hurricane
8. Always
9. Bullet Soul
10. Yet
11. Sing it Out
12. Red Eyes

Anyway, remember to check out Switchfoot.com for more info!

Discussion? Anyone?

Kate: Thanks for letting me know about the free download! I just downloaded it and I don't have time right now but I'll listen to it later! :)
And, I need to look up Birds too because that sounds intriguing ;))

Thanks for the links Shastathesecond! Don't worry, posts in this thread don't need to be Narnia-related at all, so you're completely fine! :)

I really want to hear Hello Hurricane! I love Switchfoot's music!

Speaking of getting phone calls from famous singers, listen to this:
last year on March 7, I was at the Boomin' Beyond Measure Tour featuring Tobymac and Jeremy Camp. I was standing behind two girls in the Jeremy Camp signing line. one girl was on the phone and when she got to the table where Jeremy Camp was, she said, "My sister is at home sick and she is on the phone. Is there any way you can say hi to her?"
Jeremy took the phone and said,"Hi! This is Jeremy Camp! How are you?"
everyone in the line heard the girl on the other end of the phone scream, "WHAT? IS IT REALLY? OH MY WORD!!!!!"
it was really funny! =))

Hehe, that's really funny, Liberty!!

So... anybody have any opinions on "It is Well" by Kutless? (Other then Johobbit)... I've heard 2 or 3 songs off of the CD, but I really want to listen to the rest. :D

I'm glade you liked it! I love that song! I'm sorry you don't have any gift money left! :( but it went to a good cause! Now, I'm gonna go look up that album by The Rocket Summer! :p It sounds great! that's so cool that he does all the instruments himself! he must be very talented!

By the way, The Sound (John M. Perkins Blues) came out today! :D And we were listening to the whole thing for the first time, and it is AWESOME!! B-) I love it! Btw, on the Switchfoot website: http://www.switchfoot.com/ they are giving 30 second clips of each song off their new album Hello Hurricane, one song a day, for 12 days. Today was Needle and Haystack Life. It's the first song on the album, tomorrow is Mess Of Me, and the next is Your Love Is a Song. I think I will really like Your Love Is a Song. Jon Foreman, writer and leader of SF, said it was like the trio to Let Your Love Be Strong, and Your Love is Strong. Wonderful songs by the way!

Ah, I need to check out those previews on SF's website then! I seriously need to listen to more of their older stuff first though. ;)) I have really only heard like 10 of their songs (at most).
Yeah, Bryce is super talented! Turns out he was giving a concert yesterday near me, and I missed it, woops. I love the piano in a lot of his stuff! I just looked up more of his older songs from the last album too, and I really like "Save" and "Run to You." (especially Run To You - I watched a live recording of it on youtube at one of his concerts and he says, "It's about me cheating on the most important thing in my life, and every time I've done that, I've been embraced with open arms, and taken back, despite my faults. And I'm not talking about a girl, I'm talking about Jesus Christ." I was soo happy to hear him say that because most of the time his lyrics have a lot of debate surrounding them as to whether the song is about God or not... and for that one he removed all doubt! it's a really moving song.) I think the "You gotta Believe" EP is basically the 4 songs that will also be on his next album that comes out in 2010.

Kate, I downloaded Cages, and I like it. :D What I thought was really neat about it is the last minute and a half or so with the piano. The meter goes into 5 when it was previously in 4 so there's a unique sound to it. At first when I was listening I thought "what in the world, the meter is really off!" but then I figured out it was just in 5. :P The lead singer sounds great when he sings those high notes, too!

Edit: Wow, sad news. Copeland announced today that they're breaking up! It's sad because I was just starting to get into their music!:(

Dear friends,

We have come to an extremely difficult decision. It has come time for us to move on from Copeland and follow other paths in our lives. We are absolutely grateful to have been able to make music for as long as we have. In the last 9 years we've been able to see parts of the world that we never dreamt we would see. We have shared the stage and built friendships with immensely talented artists. We've been afforded the opportunity to make 4 records that we're extremely proud of. Most of all, we feel honored that people have cared so much for our band and for our art. We appreciate every listener who has allowed our music to be a part of their lives. We want to offer our deepest thanks to every individual who has supported us on this ride. It has profoundly impacted our lives.

To put your minds at ease, we assure you this is not a bitter break up. We all individually feel Copeland has run its course in our lives and it’s time for us to pursue what is next. We couldn’t end things without a proper goodbye, so we are planning a final farewell tour in the US this coming Spring, as well as one final jaunt around the world to some of our favorite countries. We are really excited about seeing you all one more time, and we hope it turns out to be the best Copeland tour ever.

It has been discussed and we are not ruling out the possibility of recording one more album sometime in the future. However, this spring tour will be our last.

From the bottom of hearts, thank you for all of your love and support.

Aaron, Bryan, Jon & Stephen

Oh,MissAravis, I'm so sorry about Copeland! I mean,I've never heard them, but I'm sorry they broke up right as you started liking their music.

On a lighter note....
The "A New Hallelujah" tour is going to my state tomorrow. But I'm not going. :p :( I'd really like to go see Matt Maher more than anyone else on the tour though.

Oh,and my mom said I could buy Love is on the Move, the new Leeland CD tomorrow! It's on sale at this one website for only $8.97! But the sale ends Sunday. Now if only Over and Underneath would go on sale...
BTW, Jack and Whitney Mooring are expecting a baby!! Jack said so on the Air1 interview Tuesday. That kid will probably have some amazing musical abilities, being Jack Mooring's child, Leeland Mooring's niece or nephew, and Michael W. Smith's grandchild.

I like "Mess of Me" too. But to be honest, "This is Home" was the very first Switchfoot song I'd ever heard. ;))

I know MissA! I feel like I just discovered them and now they're breaking up. I was so sad when I saw that on their website. I really hope their Farewell tour comes near me. It'll probably be a good one--there are a lot of people who would want to tour with Copeland on their final tour. They have been an influential sound in the genre for a while.

I'm glad you like "Cages," they played it at the show I saw and it was so good. I think the bridge ("Hello, hello, can you hear me?") is one of the best parts of the whole album. I love that Deas Vail doesn't always write in 4 time. One of my favorite songs by them is in 3 and the way they use that time signature really gives it such a momentum and a sweeping feeling. They're not as adventurous as Eisley, but still break out of the ubiquitous 4 meter from time to time.

I like The Rocket Summer. I don't listen to him very much, and I don't have any of his music, but he's on my Last. FM. He's quite talented.
