TP: Yes I feel so bad for people like that. I asked one of my friends if she likes music and she said "oh yes! I love Beethoven, Back, Mozart, and lots of other composers!" It's kind of sad, people are missing out on alot of good music
hhm,
While I love contemporary Christian music along with Christian Rock and some Groupd 1 Crew and Tobymac (not sure where they categorize), I also think classical music is great. I couldn't live without either one.
^^I like classical music too, but I could do without it. (Group 1 Crew and TobyMac generally classify as hip hop/rap)
Kate: Glad you didn't write it, though that reviewer has some problems
^I'd say Hip-hop probably more then rap... But yeah. My brothers call any "Christian-Reformed" "rap"--Holy Hip-Hop. lol.
Mostly because of the bad connotations rap usually carries with it.
Mm, lost a post earlier today for this topic... Ah well. I pretty much said that I finally got around to listening to Forget and Not Slow Down. ( 😮 😮 😮 ) I know, it's probably about time.
I only got to listen to the first few--Sahara is the next one that's unheard.
-"Forget and Not Slow Down" --Liked this one. Possibly my favorite from the album so far...
-"I Don't Need a Soul" -- I thought this one was kind of sad. But I liked it as well. Possibly my favorite as well.
-"Candlelight" -- Mm, didn't really care for this one. The tune or the lyrics didn't really "draw me".
-"Part of It" --Can't remember this one really... So it must not've stuck out either.
-"Therapy" --This one was OK I suppose.. I probably like the lyrics more then the music.. Not sure. I think it would probably grow on me if I listened to it more or again.
-"Over It" --I liked this one fairly well I guess... Mostly the music though... more so then the lyrics.
And. That's it. Now I need to back up a few pages and re-read what y'all had to say about it.

Haha, you guys are describing me just a few years ago. I only listened to classical music. I didn't mind, either. When I was about 8 or 9 we started listening to contemporary Christian radio (I don't know why we didn't sooner, it's not like we thought it was evil or anything) and for the first few months I was like "this stuff is too rocky!" My dad still thinks a lot of CCM is "too rocky," though he doesn't mind listening to it if he's in the car with us, etc. Anyway, finally a couple years ago I stopped listening to the radio so much and started buying music (wow, novel idea ) ... I was into popular artists like The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Maroon 5, and Taylor Swift. I think last year I finally figured out what kind of music I really like. And now I have a better idea than I did then, though I'm sure it'll keep changing.
My family has just always really been into classical music, and I have too, since it's what I play all the time. As much as y'all will disagree with this statement, people who don't listen to classical music are the ones missing out on good music Of course, it's not so much of an instant gratification as pop music is. You have to familiarize yourself with many more aspects of the music since it's so much more complex. It's a long and gradual process. Sadly, since I've gotten into pop music, I haven't listened to classical as much. I'm trying to listen to more classical music like I used to.
I have a couple friends whose parents don't like anything with percussion--and they think it's almost sacrilegious (or something) for it to be used in Christian music. Apparently they think that percussion stirs up the wrong emotions. Or that it's associated with immoral things. I don't agree with them at all, but I respect their views.
Lark, I'm so glad you are enjoying F&NSD! Those two songs you mentioned are highlights for me as well. I always really appreciate very piano-oriented songs like that. Sahara, the title track, I Don't Need a Soul, and If You Believe Me are favorites also. I think I've mentioned that several times in this thread already, though
Kate, nice, honest review of Queens Club's album. I don't think I even want to listen to it I'm not a fan of FF5, either, so if they were a more sophisticated version of them, I don't think I would have liked them
Narnian1, yeah, I need both kinds of music as well. It's good to listen to deeper stuff but you also need to lighten up sometimes. (By deeper I mean classical.. heh... I know some people are going to disagree with this, oh well )
GtG, I don't think the reviewer has problems He's just comparing the album to Bryce's other albums--I think if he were rating it compared to ALL other albums, it would have a higher rating. And since Bryce is not a teenager anymore like he was when he released Calendar Days, it should be more mature. I don't 100% agree with his review but the album definitely does have some weak spots on it. Overall it's still very enjoyable.
QS, Hooray, I'm glad you listened to it finally! I'm not a big fan of Candlelight either. It, Savannah, and Over It are my least favorites from the record, though I do have to give props to Savannah for incorporating pizzicato strings.. a completely different style from what RK usually attempts.
Anyway.... done catching up, right now I'm really addicted to some of Lights' songs. Her voice is a little annoying, but many of her songs are super catchy. I love Face Up (esp. the chorus) and her stripped-down rendition of "Pretend."
Anobody watch The Rocket Summer's interview on MTV.com? Awesomeness!! I love it when Bryce talks about the "Sassy dude" from his old job as Starbucks.
Kate, the chruch I grew up in(but don't attend anymore),was really strict about music and advocated southern bluegrass gospel as the only "Christian" music we should listen to. And I had heard about(not actually heard any of their music though) Relient K, and everyone just acted like they were horrible.(Ethan Luck mith've had something to do with that. ) And listening to that kind of music wasn't what "good little Christian kids" did. *sigh* So,by the time I was about 12,all I'd listen to was country/contmeporary country.
A couple weeks before we left that church,I started listening to a local CCM radio station. And I really liked it a lot. On Saturday night's it'd play a bunch of tobyMac and Switchfoot and artists like that,so my musical taste really expanded in a short amount of time.
Kat,well,I forgot about you mentioning them,so thanks for it again. I really like "Face Up" too,but I haven't heard "Pretend"....*goes to listen*
I like classical. Schubert and Mendelesson are my favorite composers.
Kat: I know I was just kidding . I was just upset it only got 2/5, it should have at least had 3 or 4.
I agree that people who don't listen to classical are missing out, that's why I do listen to it, but I love lyrical music so much more (except pop and gospel *shudders* I'd rather listen to classical)
QS: aww, no love for Candlelight? I really like it, though when I think about it, it is one of my least favorites on the album. Part of It is good, you should listen to it more. The only song I don't like is Over It, but I LOVE Savannah. I didn't like it at first, thought it was nothing special, but lately I've been listening to it and it's really catchy and the lyrics are cute and clever (like always ). I've been messing around on the piano with the tune, maybe I'll post a video of what I come up with later
Lark: ooh can you give a link to the interview please!?
So I bought True Faith by Anberlin, and I really like it. I'll give them another chance . I also bought Nothing and Everything by RED *such pretty piano melts*
I wrote a review of Tonight by TobyMac. Could you all let me know what you think about it, just give me a little CC. I need all the help I can get writing reviews

I'm currently downloading an album by Philmont, one of my new favorite groups. After this, I'll probably download something by 12 Stones, another one of my new favorite groups. After that come The Rocket Summer and Owl City. Anyone wonder where I first hear about them? Everyone was right. $50 is not going to be enough. I still have to save enough for Tenth Ave's new album.

You betcha it will! It's so funny for me to look back at the music I've listened to and realized which bands that I used to listen to and no longer do anymore conditioned me for the artists I now listen to. Jars of Clay and Sixpence None The Richer (though I still love them) definitely pre-conditioned me for indie music and Kutless got me ready for Anberlin. My music taste is descending more and more into the obscure, so one day I'll probably be listening to some hermit who makes music by pounding rocks in his cave-home. Looking forward to it. Thanks for the feedback on the review. Enjoying your sig too. (Esp. 3 and 4).
Lark: Ah, ok. Very interesting. I actually barely ever pay attention to the percussion in albums. I wish I knew more about drums as an instrument and noticed them more, but I can't. There's no melody or pitch!
Glenstorm: Nice review! The more reviews you write, the better you'll get, so my CC is to keep writing! (Also read other reviewers' work. I do that a lot). Do you find it hard to write about music? I certainly do.
Why is there no love for "Candlelight"? It's one of my favorites from FANSD.
A few recommendations I wrote for The Album Project:
The guys in LightParade are only just getting started—they posted their first songs on their MySpace on Wednesday—but already they’ve found a niche and a defined style. By no means newcomers to the industry (vocalist Jeremiah Wood used to play for Leeland), the band’s alternative rock sound is well crafted with excellent guitars and layered vocals. They don’t exactly reinvent the wheel and sound similar to The Myriad with some BritPop influences, but what they do, they do well.
Indie rockers All the Day Holiday create melodically driven tunes with the best of them. Daydream lyrics, catchy and touching melodies, and sensitive vocals characterize this band’s first album The Things We’ve Grown to Love. Their well-crafted songs are soaring and this band’s future looks bright.
Winsome and memorable, acoustic indie-pop artist Will Hutchinson is worth checking out. “March” is a catchy, yet refreshing song and “Evening Blooms” features a more sober sound and complex harmonies. Quiet and understated, Hutchinson’s music would be easy to miss if it weren’t such a breath of fresh air.
I'm especially shocked that TAP has never written anything about All the Day Holiday. They're a pretty established and talented band.

I love Candlelight! It's one of my favorites, too.

lol
Thanks . It is hard to write about music. It's hard to put what you feel when you hear a certain song in to words. Really difficult. *sigh* I've been reading The Album Project actually, to help me out .
What do you mean by reccomendations?
Lark: Ah, ok. Very interesting. I actually barely ever pay attention to the percussion in albums. I wish I knew more about drums as an instrument and noticed them more, but I can't. There's no melody or pitch!
It's not always the easiest thing for me to pick up in a song, but if I concentrate I can usually pick out the drum beats. It really doesn't make sense that I can do that though, because I tried playing drums once, and my rhythm was terrible.
Why is there no love for "Candlelight"? It's one of my favorites from FANSD.
I was just getting ready to post about that song. It's probably my favorite "love song" now. I love the line"she is a lady,I'm the tramp." *sighs* So sweet!
Cool about LightParade! I meant to check them out back when my "Leeland obsession" started because Jeremiah Wood was in the band, but they didn't have any songs up then.
Btw,does anyone else just love how the chorus flows in "Over It"?
Oh,yeah,I listened to "Deathbed" Tuesday, and I love it! I'm trying to convince my mom to take me or let dad take me to our local Christian bookstore so I can buy Five Score. My friends taking too long to copy it,and it's only $8.99. Plus, there's only one copy left,so I hope no one gets it before me...
I'll post more later, but I just wanted to pop in and tell you guys that amazon is selling Deas Vail's Birds & Cages for just 1.99. THAT is a good deal. It's today only though, so hurry!

My favorite part Kat is that they are recommending it if you like the All-American Rejects. Haha. So similar, right?
The Album Project posts daily recommendations for new music. I'm not in charge of supplying them (thank goodness), but I had a few, so I sent them in. Since I'm always in favor of promoting good music, I thought I'd post them here.
Lark: LightParade doesn't really sound anything like Leeland, but they're still pretty good.
