Hey guys.
Anyways, on to the trailer. I actually liked it a lot more than a thought I would.
Things I liked:
Aslan was actually in the trailer for a decent amount of time. Hopefully Apted will give the character the time he deserves in the movie. And if the "In your world, I have another name. You must learn to know me by it” quote makes it into the movie, it will make my entire year.
Will is a perfect Eustace. Strangely, he is almost exactly how I used to imagine him.
The Dufflepuds look amazing, as does the Dawn Treader, and the picture scene looks great.
The only thing I have to nitpick is the inclusion of the White Witch yet again. I mean seriously, why?! But I can handle it, as it seems it's not a huge plot theme.
As a whole I think I'm going to like this movie a whole lot more than Prince Caspian, which is strange because Caspian was my favorite book, and VoDT was not any particular favorite. But I'm very excited.

^^The quote did make it and so did the un-dragoning of Eustace according to those who have seen the super trailer.
^whoa, there was a Super Trailer?!?
"Two sides of the same coin"
^^Yep, but it wasn't released to the public or anything. The footage was shown at a couple of conferences and such. You can read the reports on Narniaweb news.
That's Eustace just rescued from the water and probably being sick.
Oh, right.

Well...
I don't really have a good taste in my mouth after the trailer... It looks too disney for my taste... I'm looking for more of a mature theme and I didn't find it. I like the beginning up to the three boarding the ship...then it's all up... I didn't like the animation especially the blue sword bit. I'm hoping the actual trailer 1 and 2 will be better...
I'm a Narnia freak
my favorite part was when Caspian walked in i was so happy to see that and when it showed Ramandus Daughter, she looked so beautiful!! I love the trailer, but i hope that another one comes out that shows more of Caspian and Eustace
Please, please, quell my fears if you can, but here they are:
1. Fox doesn't seem to doing much of anything to promote/stir hype for VODT (maybe it's just too far out for any major publicity, but still it worries me)
2. The trailer, to be perfectly honest, gave me a queasy feeling. It came off sporadic and corny, like the preview for one of those "Nanny McPhee" films. It was not appealing to me at all, and left me with the impression that the movie will rushed, thematically diminished, and pillaged content-wise. I shouldn't judge a movie by it's trailer, but that's kind of what trailers are for, aren't they? To give one an idea of the actual film?
3. The changes to the book that we already know of are unsettling. Correct me if I'm missing others, or if I'm wrong about the ones I described.
Those are the only reasons for now, but they're huge to me. My impression of this movie is that they've stripped the story down to its skeleton and randomly rearranged some of the bones. So far, it's looking ugly.
I enjoyed LWW and PC, though I feel both could have been done better, but I don't get the sense that I'm going to like VODT very much at all, or that the series will continue to be made into movies after this one (we'll just have to wait for the monetary/critical reception to truly know that).
Please, someone, comfort me, or confirm my fears.

Hey Forrester,
Welcome to NarniaWeb!
While I can't allay all of your fears, I hope I can help with some. LWW's marketing was also very low key at first. Then about a month or so before the movie things kind of kicked into high gear with products in stores, a regular trailer, a super trailer, and a lot of buzz. We've seen that they seem to be doing something very similar. Things kind of trickled out and we all expect them to start slowly increasing the promotions as the movie gets closer. We still have almost 6 months to go.
The trailer wasn't a trailer. It was a teaser trailer. Teasers are not supposed to have much cohesiveness. They aim to dangle little bits and pieces in front of potential viewers and this particular teaser was aimed not at existing fans, but at people who may have never heard of Narnia before. The CGI wasn't as polished as it will be in the final film, but the same thing happened for PC. The teaser and trailer were a very different quality than the final product.
As for the stuff you have in spoilers, we just don't have enough information yet. All we have is a random collection of shots with a few tidbits. We have a rough idea of which direction the movie should go together because of the book, but they may not necessarily follow that pattern. If I remember right, we've been told they've combined a couple of the islands. And there have been some plot additions, but we don't have enough information to figure out how it will affect the story we know from the books.
Just like PC, this won't be the book on screen. We just have to wait and see if the heart of the story is intact. From what I've seen so far, I'd say it is. The casting for Eustace was spot on and Ed and Lucy have grown up quite a bit.
The actual trailer, when it comes out, should give us a bit more of an idea of how the story is put together. But don't judge a movie on its teaser.
I love love loved the teaser trailer! I mean, I guess I can see where the people who disliked it are coming from... The teaser doesn't show much of Caspian, and Eustace, and absolutely nothing of Eustace as a dragon, but I assume the CG for this is not finished yet. And in my opinion, they can continue working on it as long as they need (as long as the movie isn't pushed back), because the last thing I need is to be hearing people complain about how "corny" and "unrealistic" it might look. For those that didn't like the teaser trailer, remember, those who viewed the super trailer said it looked amazing, and that the movie is being steered in the right direction. This is great news for anyone who is or was worried. Anyway, I absolutely loved this teaser trailer, and cannot wait until the official trailer is released (and by extension, the movie itself!)

I am not really a big fan of the casting of Eustace as of yet. I am willing to give it a chance. It may turn out alright in the end.
There are no clouds in the sky. There is only the open sun and the Lord watches.
I'm not sure about Will looking like Eustace but he's a good actor, so there's no issues there.

I loved the trailer and i'm not that concerned about minor changes. Films always require some changes and i don't mind some more action than the book. Altough i think the White Witch was unnecessary to include, i did like her extended scene in the Prince Caspian movie. We'll see how that turnes out in december.
I hope the dialogue is good, cause Lucy's dialogue in the trailer was a bit dull. But the ship looks amazing, the wave, sea of lillies, reepicheep, aslan.
It's the only film this year i'm really looking forward to (i'm actually a bit bored with Harry Potter and the 7th book was my least favorite).
Overall, I loved the trailer. There were many things in it that were different from the book, which I don't like of course. But I suppose it has to be expected since all movies end up being somewhat different from the books they're based on. And it's not always a bad thing. After all, if it was EXACTLY the same, we would all feel like we were just reading the book again and get bored. But yes, I do prefer accuracy.
I had some theories about the trailer which I posted on a podcast post. But since a lot of people might not have seen it there, and since this is the official Trailer thread, I'll quote the theories I had:
Many people are saying that they don’t know why The White Witch is there. But I was thinking, The Dark Island is a place where all your worst nightmares come true. Wouldn’t it make sense that Edmund would be having nightmares about temptation from The White Witch, or her returning, after all he’s been through concerning her? I think he would. And if he did, those nightmares would certainly come to life at The Dark Island. So even though it wasn’t in the book,it does, in a way, fit in, in a more realistic sense.
The White Witch being dead wouldn’t make it any more difficult for her to appear at The Dark Island, since it’s a place where nightmares come true. There could be all sorts of dead things there — most likely there would be since most nightmares are about dead things, or things returning from the dead. Not only would there be dead things, but things that never lived in the first place — imaginary things the people on board had dreamed up themselves while they were sleeping. Anything can happen in a nightmare. And if the nightmares come true — the possibilities are endless. It’s no longer limited to what is usually physically possible. Instead, it’s limited to each person’s imagination which is, most likely, much broader. So someone’s death doesn’t necessarily have any bearing on what is or isn’t at the Dark Island.
I think they made her eyes green, so as to begin to introduce her as The Emerald Witch of The Silver Chair. A lot of people will be disappointed if that happens. And I may be wrong. But I think it might be true, because a lot of people do believe she IS the Emerald Witch (myself included). One bad side of it is, that if she IS the Emerald Witch, Eustace will see her, messing up what originally hapenned in The Silver Chair when they meet her on her white horse and she gives them advice.
I think that it may be possible, like I heard on the podcast, that the Pevensies could die at the end. It explains why they’d be there. Plus, while it shows them, Aslan’s voice says, "You’ve been brought here for a reason. Your journey begins now." I was wondering, what if the "journey" He’s talking about is their future in the afterlife? It would make sense, and, as much as I would hate to see it in the movie, it would tie it up nicely like you said. Especially since the final movie is so far away it might never get done.
By the way, those bringing together of the seven swords — could that have anything to do with Rhindon glowing?
I had another thought, this time about Lucy using Susan’s arrow. It was probably brought along as a relic. And Lucy probably HAS to use it, because it’s the closest weapon she can reach during some time of emergency. (Or it turns out to be the only thing that will be effective in some case, because of some magic we haven’t heard of yet) I also have a theory as to the emergency that causes her to grab the arrow. I saw a Youtube video of on the set of the movie, where a dragon is attacking the ship (Eustace?). And in the background of the video you can hear the director or whoever it is, yelling out to the actors and crewmembers what the dragon is doing. At one point, I believe I hear him say, "He’s been shot!" And that shot is probably from the arrow Lucy shoots. (Not fatally, of course, especially if it’s Eustace)
By the way, that long scroll Coriakin rolls out — I think that’s the map he makes for Drinian before they leave. You know, the one that shows all that Drinian has seen with his own eyes?
Another thing I noticed is this. First of all, there’s a picture of Eusatce looking through a hole right after Coriakin says, "You are all about to be tested." It would make sense that that’s the beginning of the dragon episode. He may be looking in at the treasure (or something else, if they’ve changed it). Plus it would make sense, since they purposely put it right after a mention of "Being tested". And that is where Eustace was tested after all. But I noticed two things which indicate that they strayed from the book again. While the Dufflepuds are jumping around Eustace, he looks very bratty and upset still — like the old Eustace — even though, in the books, he was already turned good by the time they reached The Island of the Voices. So they might have changed the order of that. Plus, in the corner of the picture where he is looking through that crack, you can see pillars — possibly of Coriakin’s house. Which, if I’m right, means that Eustace will be dragoned while at The Island of the Voices, and Dragon Island will either be where he is only UNdragoned instead, or just left out completely.
My last idea is about the snow. In the book, Lucy reads a beautiful story that she loves so much, anything she likes after it is because it reminds her of the one she read in the Magician’s Book. Couldn’t they be making the snow a part of that "Beautiful Story"?
Anyway, that’s my ideas. They could be completely off. But I thought I’d tell them anyway, in case they provide some clues.
So what does everyone think?
Well, I've never actually posted my thoughts in this thread yet. So... here goes.
Overall, I liked it. As expected, there were some parts I really enjoyed, while others not so much. It was a teaser trailer, however, and teaser trailers are meant to tease---meaning I neither bounced off the walls for joy nor wailed in despair.
To start off, I really loved the scene in which the children entered Narnia. The water pouring through the picture looked absolutely brilliant, and so did Eustace grabbing the frame.
Another favorite part was Lucy with the Magician's Book. I thought the whole thing very creative, what with the falling snow, Lucy blowing the title into formation, and the transition of her into Susan. Aslan's roar and the pages flipping was another nice touch.
Then, of course, Eustace's "This place just keeps getting weirder and weirder!" Hee hee. That line cracked me up, as well as the dufflepuds (who were really cute and hilarious in a jumpy sort of way). Originally, I wasn't quite sure what to think of Eustace. He certainly didn't show up that often in the trailer, but I'm coming to feel he'll pull off the part well. (I love his face in the water-coming-through-the-picture scene. Priceless!)
I like the brighter feel to the whole thing; contrary to the darkness of Prince Caspian, it seemed much more like LWW---which I'm thrilled about.
And... the sea of lilies was amazing. Just how I've always imagined it.
My main dislike was Aslan's whole "The fate of Narnia depends on you", "Extraordinary destiny" thing. It really bugged me, to be honest. I don't know---seemed a bit cheesy? Yeah. To me at least.
Seemed a bit odd that the quest for the seven lords wasn't mentioned at all... I was hoping for at least a quick view of the dragon or sea serpent, too. Edmund's glowing sword was also peculiar. The appearance of Jadis was a bit expected, but I don't have a huge problem with her being in the movie---as long as she's strictly reserved to the dark island. I also don't have a problem with Edmund's "I'm a king!" line at the beginning, either. I'm almost positive he won't turn into a second Peter.
Maybe it was just me, but I thought the first glimpse of the Dawn Treader (when Lucy first breaks the surface of the water) looked a bit fake... I'm not worried though, as other shots seem to be fine.
Anyway, that was my reaction. I re-watched the trailer quite a few times before I finally managed to collect my thoughts together and sort out a tentative "first impression"---which is positive, for the most part! As I said earlier, however, there's so much more work to be done, and I'll wait until the theater to make my final judgment. Then will I either bounce off the walls or wail in despair.

Eustace+Jill, I did comment on your comment on the podcast. I'll restate some of what I said there, here.
I agree. But there's a fine line to draw here: Is the White Witch still dead, and her former words to Edmund merely haunting him from the past, or is she making another "dead-but-I-can-still-tempt-you" appearance?
I think they made her eyes green, so as to begin to introduce her as The Emerald Witch of The Silver Chair.
I'm not sure. Tilda Swinton's eyes are green; this can be seen throughout LWW. But if she is brought back as the Emerald Witch (Her eyes seem incredibly green), I will be quite mad.
As I said on my comment on the podcast:
I don’t think that the Pevensies will die at the end. I doubt that Fox will try to end it as the Pevensie trilogy. In fact, I’m not sure this quote from Aslan actually is at the end. I think the quote corresponds perfectly with what Edmund asks Caspian in the trailer. "If there are no wars to fight, than why are we here?" But Aslan knows that they are there for a reason. Maybe he will have an early appearance where he will have the chance to say this.
However, if the quote is at the end, I think it may have been inspired by this one (He says it on the last page of VDT): "This was the very reason why you were brought to Narnia, that by knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there." The Pevensies were brought to Narnia for a reason, in other words…which was to get to know Aslan better.
I think you may be right on a lot of your points!
I pretty much agree with you too, Miss Rosario, except I did wail in despair at a few spots, namely Edmund's beginning scene ("I'm a king"), the appearance of the White Witch, and the lines "The fate of Narnia depends on you" and "you have an extraordinary destiny." Since my first trailer viewing, though, I feel differently about Edmund now. It may or may not be handled better than PC Peter.
I think Will Poulter is going to portray Eustace brilliantly. Even from what little we've seen of him so far, he just seemed to be totally Eustace in the bedroom painting scene, and the scene where he's staring at the Dufflepuds bouncing about!
I'll wait until the theater to make my final judgment. Then will I either bounce off the walls or wail in despair.
If it turns out to be awfully changed, I will join the ranks of those people doing exactly that!
