Quite thankfully there is next to no evidence to support any theory about Gael being a Sea Girl or anything of that nature - and quite alot of evidence to support the much more boring theory that she is just a girl from the Lone Islands, who like Rhince joins the voyage to search for missing members of her family who have been sold into slavery.
I actually thought that perhaps they created Gael as a female companion to Lucy, since, in this day and age, a little girl riding for months on a ship full of men seems...unsafe. Of course we know that the crew of the Dawn Treader are honorable men, but the causual general audience member might wonder.
I never thought of that. You have a really good point there as to why they would need to have created her in the first place.

I am one of those brainless audience members who kinda likes sweet and fluffy types of things in movies sometines. I think I might find it really sweet if they find a little orphan girl and help her get back to her family.
I mean think about it. It would really help to have another girl on the ship.
The book VDT inspired many Lucian fans, most likely because Caspian was the only main character in the book who wasn't realated to Lucy or a rodent, and Lucy was the only girl on the ship. I find this gross, maybe that's just me, but considering the ages of Georgie and Ben I think I would toss my cookies if there were strong Lucian themes in VDT. I might be able to handle it if they had Lucy have a tiny crush on Caspian, but anything more would probably make me dislike the entire movie.
Perhaps this Gael is an attempt to keep Lucian or any other strange pairings out of the audience's mind.
Also I think that reflects well on Caspian as a king, taking orphans in on his ship. It may irk some major book fans but I think it will be good for the movie.

Oh come on. I know you are right, but enjoy the theory icarus. It is so insane and if it ends up being true i will laugh.
There is a little bit of evidence in that she jumps off the side of a boat into the water to go to someone also in the water which is utterly bizarre in and of itself. The only logical theory as to why she would do this, in my humble opinion, is that she is a sea girl. By the way not a mermaid, a sea girl. As i said before they are not the same thing.
Also about the Caspian/Lucy theory, I will be irate beyond all reason if that in any form ends up being in the film. Well at least as annoyed as i am about the Caspian/Susan romance.

Arabella Morton was 8 years old during filming. Will Poulter would have been 16. That is entirely unreasonable and borderline disgusting to even suggest it.
8? 16? Oh...that is disgusting! Sorry, I thought Will was a couple of years younger and I thought Arabella was a couple of years older.
In the books, Eustace is around the ages of 10-12, and since Will looks sorta young I thought he was close to that age range.
But Gael will definitaltly be a Lucy compainion, to fill in the shoes of Tumnus and Trumpkin.

Gael and Eustace? gross! I don't think that's in the movie..... I hope not!

Is there any possibility that the dark island moves around? Maybe the dark island is the dragon island and they lose Eustace there when he becomes a dragon. That could explain why he seems to be a dragon for longer.
Maybe they can't rescue him until they find the dark island again. This also seems like an insane theory, but i thought i would write it anyways.

Or the Dark Island could be the "Unfathomable Fate"...with the green mist of nightmares being the threat they must stop to save Narnia. It could only be stopped by the finding of all seven lords with seven swords.
Winter Is Coming
Am i making any sense? It just seems like there is a time when the ship has no eustace on it for a little while. Sort of like he is a dragon for awhile. I guess we can't be quite certain of that.

^ I think that could be a possibility! I think they might extend Eustace's time in dragon form for some reason.

Well i just don't think that they would leave Eustace behind unless there was no other choice. That was why i suggested the disappearing dark island. I know it sounds crazy.

As much as I'm enjoying the ridiculous theories about Gael, I think that it's far more likely she's just Lucy's cute little friend for this movie. Cause it wouldn't be a Narnia film if Lucy didn't have a cute little friend.
It wouldn't surprise me if the Dark Island moves around. All indications seem to show that the Dark Island is really the EVUL SOUL-EATING ISLAND OF DOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!11!!!
LoL. I know that we all make jokes, but some of it could end up being true. It may be that the footage that was taken at the spit of them shooting at a dragon could just be on the dark island.
I know you are kidding Book, but it does seem like they think Lucy needs a cute little friend and she just doesn't.

The dark island really could be moving around, considering the "malevolent mist threatening to engulf the land" from the official synopsis.
You know its funny you mention the Dark Island as "soul eating" Bookwyrm.
They said the dragon cave that sucked children's souls from the leaked script would be out of film. Maybe they just left out the detail that the Dragon Cave is being replaced by the Dark Island.
After we did see the smoke/mist/fog/green magic swilring around the ship as if it was going to attack the crew.
And maybe the dissapearing people, or the lost souls, or whatever...maybe they are trapped on Dark Island in this movie. That means that the goal of the movie in the end is to save the people (be they children, Lords, or Gael's mother).
