I have no idea. They don't necessarily have to be related. He could just be looking after her for the moment. I really have no idea.

I'm not sure if there is a connection between Rhince and Gael. It seems likely. I'm not sure if this means anything but they are both pictured in the scene that is behind Eustace's character page.
I really don't think the amount of trailer appearance can indicate how big her role is. We have had several reports that Susan's, Peter's, and the Witch Witch's roles are small. They seemed to feature the smaller roles at least in that respect so Gael's role could be huge since she was left out of the trailer. (of course I know that is far from being conclusive but it is interesting to think about)

Gael is in the trailer - she's on the deck with the crew during the Dark Island clip.
There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.

^^ but thankfully that's all we see of her in the trailer.....

I knew that. What I meant when I said that she wasn't in the trailer that she was featured in the trailer (i.e. she was only in the background one of that one shot and one really had to look for her to find her.) The principle I was talking about still applies.

MoonlightDancer, to answer your question, Gael is the name of an added character, apparently connected to Rhince somehow. We first learned of her back in August when we started getting videos of the shoot in Australia.
Hmm... I wonder if that sea girl that Lucy is waving at is Gael. That would be interesting, and unforseen. If it is true, then I suppose Gael is featured in the trailer.
*shudder*

LoL. I am the one suggesting it and yet i still find it funny. I might laugh if she ends up being a sea girl.

Gael a sea girl? Wow... that would be...odd! I wonder how that would work? How does she walk? Is she like Ariel from the Little Mermaid?
Let's hope that is not true... it's actually rather possible, but so ridiculous that I'm laughing at it. Still... it could happen...

Well in the book the sea people have legs and ride sea horses. They are different then mermaids. A mermaid can breathe above the water. A sea person cannot.
I am not saying that it isn't a slightly insane theory. I just enjoy it.
PS. There are mermaids in the books as well. With fins instead of legs. They are just a different thing then a sea person.

That's an interestng theory that Gael might be a walking mermaid on board . Just thinking about it makes me laugh. But I thought she had a relation with Rhince or Rynelf. Perhaps we knew this because the crew wanted us to know that to hide Gael's true character. I always remembered as kid how cool it would be if Lucy and that mer-girl would ever become close friends then in the book. Hopefully this may be my wish I really hope this theory is true in a way.

In a way i really hope it is true also. It is so insane that it makes it enjoyable.

If Gael really is a water girl then that explains why she jumps into the water. Maybe they pick her up early in the movie and drop her off where Lucy saw her in the book.

I don't think Gael is a mermaid. I actually think Gael is intended to be Eustace's love interest in the movie. Its not unreasonable. He's like 12 and she's like 10. And since they realised that making characters that werent in love with each other in the books form a romance in a movie doesnt work, they decided to make up a whole new character for Eustace to like.

I actually think Gael is intended to be Eustace's love interest in the movie. Its not unreasonable. He's like 12 and she's like 10.
Arabella Morton was 8 years old during filming. Will Poulter would have been 16. That is entirely unreasonable and borderline disgusting to even suggest it.
Somehow I doubt this theory. I actually thought that perhaps they created Gael as a female companion to Lucy, since, in this day and age, a little girl riding for months on a ship full of men seems...unsafe. Of course we know that the crew of the Dawn Treader are honorable men, but the causual general audience member might wonder. Anyway, enough said on that topic.
I like the "Gael is a sea girl" theory the best. I'll have to take a closer look at the water girl in the trailer to see if she looks anything like the actress playing Gael.
