The problem is that the movies have established Mr. Pevensie as being in the military. So it doesn't make much sense in movie continuity for him to be touring America. My theory is that perhaps he's been wounded and Susan and Mrs. Pevensie are caring for him and have sent the younger kids to stay with relatives to keep him out of the way. Peter will probably either be in the military or they'll have retained the book's explanation for his absence.
I honestly wasn't unhappy with it, I mean, perhaps it was just the anticipation and excitement that hardly allowed me to find much wrong with it. I agree that I believe some work still has to be done on it, but providing they clean it up, I'm pretty sure it's going to turn out to be a good movie overall, whether it pleases us hardcore fans or not.
The thing about Peter and Susan, I don't think we should be too worried about it. I HIGHLY doubt they are going to bring them back into Narnia and change the entire plotline, considering they were already told in the Prince Caspian flim itself that they would not be returning. I believe it to be some sort of flashback or nostalgic ending scene with the four Kings and Queens of Old. I love the four Pevensies anyway, so I'm personally fine with it.
My favourite scene in the trailer has to be when Lucy transforms into Susan in the book, that was wonderfully done. I think this will really bring out to the audience Lucy's insecurities.

Peter is dressed very fancy like on the movie poster, it seems to me that he is probably going to America with both Susan and and his mother. He's too fancy looking to be going off to study with Professor Kirke or off to the military.

But when did the air raids stop in England? Was it always going on throughout World War 2. The only book was LB when the war was over.
I believe the air raids on England "The Blitz" lasted about three months sometime within the year 1940.

Okay so it might be possible that some of the children who were sent away came back a year or a few months later then? It would be possible that the Pevensie's went back to living with their mom, unless she got a house elsewhere.

I watched the trailer frame by frame today and saw a few things I hadn’t noticed before:
There is a sign that says BAND OF BROTHERS behind Edmund in his first shot.
I could never before tell what happened to the painting after Ed grabs it. In the next shot it looked as if the water was rushing in from the fireplace. Now I see that the water is actually bubbling up from the floor in front of the fireplace. The boys must have dropped it there. In the underwater shot you can still see water jetting from the floor.
You can just about see the reflection of the camera in Edmund’s telescope.
I’m 99% sure that Coriakin is unfolding a map.
The Telmarines on the ship have crossbows.
On both sides of the stand that is holding the spell book there are carvings of a tower –Telmarine by the look of it. On the left is a carving of 4 men in a boat with a prow in the shape of a man. Directly in front of the boat is the head of a sea serpent.
Lucy’s scene with the book is has been reordered drastically.
What we see is:
1 Lucy flipping through the book (there is a beautiful picture of the moon on one of the pages)
2 Lucy’s reflection in the book, a shot of Lucy and a corresponding shot of Susan in the book.
3 Lucy holding a page (not the beauty spell page, there is no dark oval mirror on it) and stepping back as the pages flip. Based on her movement, I don’t think she’s ripping out a page in this particular shot.
4 A shot of Lucy slamming her hand into one of the pages. If you look under her hand you’ll see a dark oval and the familiar oval-shaped border around it. On the left-hand page you’ll see most of the words “spell to make you she, the beauty you’ve always wanted to be.” Interestingly, there is snow on the book at this point and snow is falling as well.
5 Two shots of Lucy enjoying an indoor snowfall.
As far as I can tell, based on how much of the book is read in each shot, the shots should be reordered like this:
1, 5, 4, 2, 3.
I think Lilliandil is talking to Edmund when she says “The fate of Narnia depends on you.”
Later in the girl-turned-star scene the only letters I can make out are: COGN__OV _OTUS MAR...
In the shot of the faun attacking, you can see that the faun has dug his weapon into an enemy on the ground and then kicks a guy who is apparently wearing shorts. Actually what appears to really be happening is that the stuntman playing the faun’s enemy on the ground is actually catapulting the actor playing the faun so that he can do a flip in the air. Pretty cool. There also seems to be a Minotaur without a head running along the left side of the screen. CGI must not be finished on this shot yet.
In the shot of Lucy with the bow there are clearly two dead men lying on the ship around her. The one on the right appears to be a Telmarine, the one on the left is the same sort of enemy as the faun was fighting in Narrowhaven. They have the same sort of curved swords.
What I thought was snow blowing around the duffers seems only to be blowing leaves now. Also, the duffers have axes. I am still bothered by the flight path of the rightmost dufflepud. There is something unnatural about his first jump, and he doesn’t even bend his knee for the second.
Wind is blowing the spray from the wave at the end of the world back over itself so that the wave never crashes onto the beach.
There appears to be smoke behind the banner behind Susan.
That was a lot of stuff that I hadn’t noticed before. I’m not sure how much of it is important, but there it is all the same.
Movie Aristotle, AKA Risto
Oh lor, I think I need to stop reading this thread, it's starting to wear on my subconscious. I totally had a nightmare last night that I saw VODT and it was so unlike the book that I left incredibly disappointed, went and ranted with a few Narniawebbers (who I've never met in real life, even), and then pronounced the movie 'mediocre'.
I'm going to try and continue thinking positively...and I hope you all feel very bad for disturbing my sleep so with your negative comments.

agree, Movie Aristotle, I was going to ask if anyone else noticed the snow on the Beauty Spell page! =) Yeah, I couldn't help but think (after watching the trailer again this morning) hey, it didn't look like she ripped that out, and that *wasn't* the beauty spell. It's just a weird angle =) Anyways: JUST a trailer and all it'll turn out great I'm *SURE*! =D
:music: risk it all cuz I'll catch you if you fall... if my heart was a house you'd be home :music:
I think this, right now, is going to come down to our faith in Doug Gresham. He is personally responsible for everything C. S. Lewis Ltd. puts it's name on, including this movie, and if he doesn't approve it doesn't happen. No, I don't like what I've seen in the trailer but I do believe Doug knows what he's doing.
I'm still very hopeful for this movie. Attitude is everything and I'm sure we can find it all in us to see the wonderful things about this trailer. At least Corikakin starts out invisible, the Dawn treader has a dragon head instead of say, a swan, Caspian still has the desire to see the worlds end which is pivotal to his character. There is a dark island (and it's definitely bringing about our worst fears), there are islands, all the ones we know. Things could really be a whole lot worse. We should not be judging a two hour movie on a two minute trailer.
It would be awful if this movie turns out for the worst but we cannot know that until we've seen, so let's stay positive, which I know is easier said than done...

^^ having heard Doug Gresham speak about VotDT in the interview that narniaweb posted recently, I am sure that this movie is going to be better than even I think it will be!

^ Ditto it was one with i=him and Mark Johnson who reassured that they realize mistakes on what they made in PC and are trying to get these movies back on track starting with VDT. The trailer isn't bothering me yet. I'll wait to panic three days before the movie comes out. but I don't think panicking is necesarry. I'll only panic if my Caspian/Lilliandil romance isn't good enough.

I have not panicked at all yet! I am only giddy with excitment and curiosity! yay! this movie will be glorious and awesome!

I want to discuss about the positive sides in the trailer. It seems as though a lot of it is very positive like the painting, the Dawn Treader, the Lone Islands, the mermaid scene, the dark island, the Magician's Book, the dufflepuds and the lillies at the end of the world. Most of it is very true to the boos. i don't know why some of you mention how much some of this stuff looks fake or the WW doesn't belong or the Dark Island doesn't look dark enough or it's too Harry Potterish.
Try looking at the positive side on why WW is added and why fog glows when there is clearly lanterns lit up around the ship. A lot of what we've seen in the trailer matches up to the book very greatly.

I am fairly certain Doug Gresham did not approve of the Caspian/Susan kiss and i am fairly certain that it just happened anyways.
There are no clouds in the sky. There is only the open sun and the Lord watches.
I have a theory about the dead [?] tree in the scene where Lilliandil morphs.
I think it's the "Tree of Protection" near the center of this video-game map icarus found:
(You can tell it's definitely at least Early VDT because Doorn Island is in the upper right)
Ever since I first noticed the tree in the trailer, I felt it was there for a reason. The mysterious engraved words in the low wall back up it's importance - why put a carved wall around a random tree?
