The Positives:
They seemed to have nailed the beauty spell. I'm very glad that she seems tempted to say it and Aslan stops her. I was really afraid that would not meet my expectations, but it looks like they did ti very well. I like how Lucy's face changes to Susan's
All of the magician stuff looks absolutely stunning!
The Negatives: (oh where, to begin)
Edmund's comment about "I'm a king." It is way too much like Peter's little speech at the beginning of PC. That coupled with the White Witch's line "Edmund, I could make you my king" sounds too much like what Peter went through in the last movie. Edmund has more on the ball than that. The White Witch should no longer be any temptation for him. (Of course we don't know that he will be tempted. He could just be reliving what happened before. But the set up seems so similar what happened in PC that I find it liker that Edmund will at least consider her offer. ) I will give them this I never would have expected the White Witch to make Edmund an offer like that.
Like a lot of others, I'm pretty positive she's meant to be his nightmare, and she really is the best choice for it. She represents all his weaknesses AND all the memories of his betrayal, plus his imprisonment in her castle. All of that is the perfect stuff of nightmares.
Even though Edmund's comment about being a king sounds like Peter's, it comes from a totally different place (this is assuming that's actually the line used in the final cut, which it might not be.) Peter's came from a place of angst and anger at being treated childishly. Edmund's came from a place that was more reasoned. Someone else pointed out that Peter's way of dealing with being tossed back into the real world was to repeatedly get into fist fights. Edmund's way of dealing was to try to enlist in the army and lend his considerable expertise to the war effort, despite being several years to young. Those are totally different responses based on their totally different characters.

I really don't like that they seem to be forewarned that they will be tested (I'm counting "journey" and "adventure" as part of tested because they seem to have the same general meaning). Aslan's lines and appearance to Lucy in the cabin seem weird. "Welcome. You have come far, but your journey lies beyond." with the cabin scene and then "You have returned for a reason. Your adventure begins now." They both seem to be saying almost the same thing but I know at least one of them was said at the end. Maybe *crosses fingers* Aslan's lines are only for the trailer. I'm pretty sure Coriakin is not supposed to know what is passed his island.
It's really likely that none of those lines and scenes go together. They've been way spliced for the trailer.
[/*237h3c79]
Fighting in Narrowhaven. NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! [/*237h3c79] The CG wasn't the best. The ship and the lilies looked kind of fake and too colorful.
Honestly, they're probably still working on cleaning up the post production. They just had a trailer release date to meet. As for fighting in Narrowhaven...disappointing, but unavoidable in a modern (Hollywood) film, unfortunately. There's always the chance that that wasn't Narrowhaven, though.
[/*237h3c79]
Peter and Susan in Narnian clothes in what looks like the same location that Ed and Lucy are in. I really don't know what to think about this. They have English clothes on on the display and Narnian clothes on the trailer. They have no business being in Narnian clothes. I could be mistaken but I don't think they have worn those outfits before. [/*237h3c79][/list237h3c79]
I think this is more trailer stuff to catch people's attention. The general public doesn't know as much about the story as we do here, so the trailer puts up recognizable faces.
The Disappointing:
There wasn't a very nice clear picture of the ship. I really wanted to see the whole ship and the whole sail. [/*237h3c79] Not even a glimpse of a dragon. [/*237h3c79] Eustace was hardly in it at all. [/*237h3c79] I really couldn't get a good idea of what the Dufflepuds looked like because they were moving to fast. I didn't picture them that jumpy. [/*237h3c79][/list237h3c79][/*237h3c79][/list237h3c79]
Of course not! The ship and the dragon are BIG REVEAL moments! You don't put those in the trailer, especially not the first trailer. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a brief ending glimpse of a dragon in the later trailers, because it will be something new to ratchet up the interest. Probably sometime around October/November. Right before the release press heats up.
I'm more interested in how the characters are portrayed in this one, especially Lucy. I was very disappointed in her character in PC, and I'm hoping she gets some of her spunk and courage back in this one.
Okay, just like Pattertwigs Pal, I have not read all of the comments. Therefore, I don't know what the majority are saying on this. However, here are my thoughts:
There is a point in me (a sort of line where I'm either on one side or the other) that divides. At one moment I am an one-hundred percent purist. My heart shouts, "keep it like the book! keep it like the book! Don't fix what isn't broken!". The next moment, my heart crosses that point into utter curiosity. WHAT HAVE THEY DONE?! I don't know. For that reason, I'm absolutely and outrageously curious to find out.
It's true people, this story won't be C.S. Lewis's EPIC - kinda contradictory ain't it - masterpiece. However, it may very well be that Michael Apted's (is that how you spell him?) story will be a masterpiece in its own rite. I saw enough of the trailer to be satisfied that they have paid at least a nod to the source material, giving me the consolation I require to be able to scrutinize the rest of the material fairly. In all fairness, it looks quite captivating. Like Michael Apted said himself, this film looks like it will have a lot to do with character development. THERE! That is the reason I love VDT: the character developments of Lucy, Eustace, Caspian and Reepicheep are wonderfully told in the book. It is this that I will look for most in the coming film. As for the rest... well... I just won't take it for-granted or even un-granted.
NOTE: You will notice that I did not mention Edmond in the list of people who had great character development. The reason I did it is simple: Edmond didn't really have much character development in the VDT book. It will be great, I think, if they do give him a better character development in the movie.

Thank goodness for people like Lirenel and Farsight. They help to keep things grounded and in perspective. Some of you are acting like someone killed your pet or a loved one. This is a movie! Yes, a Narnia movie, yes a movie you've been anticipating for awhile. But it's still a movie. I'm not going to pretend the teaser trailer was amazing, it wasn't but it wasn't terrible either. Just a bit bland.

Zeeky5678 – Very interesting, thanks for looking that up!
Quickly, the shots that seem 3D to me are: Coriakin throwing the map (1:00), the Magician's Book looks like the mirror in the book will at least have some depth to it, possibly the pages flipping (1:18-ish), the faun-tumble at 1:39, and those are all I can say I'm almost certain will have some 3D techniques on when you watch it with TS3.
Oh, and RD turning into blue ball of flames/light is way sped up; note how quickly Lucy seems to step back. (1:36)
Yes, those are some of the shots. Thanks for the input, LadyLiln! I will have to watch RD's section again. Oh, why not the whole thing while I'm at it?
I'm going to guess that it's the digital cameras. And I doubt they're done with all of the CGI effects so probably everything will look better in the movie itself.
I hope so!
Do Lucy's clothes sometimes look too big and sometimes not? I have trouble telling the difference. I would think that in the Magician's book scene Lucy's clothes are still too big. I wonder if that island could be first and the Lone Island second unless they are put together. The thing that makes it difficult to decide island order is that some islands are going to be put together.
I haven't noticed anything. But is she supposed to be wearing Caspian's clothes? That would explain the size.
I'm wondering if maybe a few shots have been added in for the trailer that won't be in the movie. Could that be possible? Susan definitely hasn't worn that dress; it's brown. I didn't pay attention to Peter's outfit. But here is my thought – it's just going to be a link to the other movies. Peter and Susan are still king and queen (And so long as they DO NOT enter Narnia I'm happy, and we've gotten confirmation that they aren't). So perhaps the trailer shots at the end are just showing that they haven't disappeared off the face of the earth.
As for Reepicheep at the end of the world, I wouldn't consider it to be a departure from the book yet. Maybe he and Caspian are both there to see the Pevensies make their final exit. It would bring better closure. I found Caspian in the coracle a bit disturbing at first, but he has to return to Narnia anyways in order to marry RD/Lilliandil and be King for SC.
One thing that I am still concerned about is absolutely no mention of the seven lords.
I'm glad to see Lucy is having a more active part than in PC!
Just because I thought this was a bit interesting, here are all the comments about the trailer from people over at BoxOfficeMojo.com, most of whom have not read the books. I know this is a very small sample size, but it seems that only about 1/3 of the people had a positive reaction.
"Looks ok."
"Cant wait."
"Looks really good."
"Very Cool! Looks very magical!"
"That trailer was kind of underwhelming."
"Rather poor trailer really. Seemed rather amateurishly edited."
"It looks good, it just doesn't have that holy moly I have to see this feel."
"Very meh. It just sounds like they're going back to everything anyone remembers about the first film."
"Looks okay I guess. It would have been better if Disney made it. The trailer for the past two movies have been great."
"With this trailer I think Brandon Gray is dead on with his thinking that this will struggle to hit Caspian numbers even with 3D."
"Looks like they're going to the same 'Magical world of adventure and wonder!' garbage from the first one rather than the war theme of the last one. The last one was TEN TIMES better than the first."
"Trailer started off very well, then kind of lost focus in the middle. I've read the book...but I forgot what happens. I know they get stuck in an island or something...and I honestly don't remember the White Queen ever being in the book."
"The book is a great adventure, however this trailer was poorly cut, the film still has plenty of potential, but they've shown uninformed audiences nothing in terms of the plot, and everything is just so bright and colorful which I did not expect."
"The Prince Caspian trailers were so much better. This trailer looked like a heap of garbage, and this is coming from someone who liked both of the first two movies. Firstly, Edmond never tried to enlist in the army, but it's fine if they add that in the movie. However, the White Witch was not in this book so she shouldn't be in the movie (although she was my favorite character). Thirdly, the dialogue was campy, the visual effects don't look as good as they did in PC or TLTWATW."
I agree with many of those quotes but... Disney didn't make the first two movies, they just funded them. Also, the reason VDT isn't war themed is because the novel isn't war themed. Some good quotes but some are seriously misinformed.

I still feel the trailer had too much of a kiddie attraction at Disneyworld feel to it. I know they want it to seem all light and magical, but really?
The LWW teaser, while it did have a "magical feel to it", also showed more battles, intense moments, epic shots, and a sense of adventure and danger. It was well edited, and had perfect music.
Winter Is Coming
I just rewatched the teaser trailers for LWW and PC and I'd have to agree. They seem more grand and more coherent and focused. This teaser is just haphazard and childish. Aspects of it work really well, others parts just don't. Still, there are few good things about the VDT teaser - it seems more character-driven and, dare I say it, British in feel.

I watched the trailers for LWW and PC before the VDT trailer just to compare. Overall, it feels like Narnia is going in a new direction, but a good one. The books are different from each other so the movies should feel different. I realize I am probably one of the few but when I saw it my first thought was omp Narnia's really back! I was expecting it to be a lot different from the book, so I was glad to see things I recognized as well as some surprises. I was afraid the budget cut would bother my enjoyment of the film but, for me, the trailer says otherwise. I was afraid all the new crew would kill the Narnia I was used to, but that fear has been put to rest. I think we are in for another fantastic Narnia movie. That may just be me at the moment, but I am stoked
It's wonderful to see some footage from VDT. I'm still pondering some elements, but there are a couple of shots that I feel truly shine.
I absolutely love the shots with Lucy inside the Magician's house, especially the shots where she mirrors Susan's image (the visuals here are great, very much how I imagined). I also really like the painting sequence with the room filling with water and then rising into a Narnian sea. The liliies for the end of the book are also looking great. Not so keen on the Dufflepuds yet, they seem a bit off in the effects dept.
Still not sure on the appearance of Jadis. Seems like it has something to do with the Dark Island (is that supposed to be Dark Island in the trailer? It doesn't seem very dark and forboding), but the whole smoke effect just seems so cliche with tmptation and seduction (what sort of impact is this going to have with the Lady of the Green Kirtle? I hope it doesn't take away from her abilities in SC). I'm also not sure on the whole glowing bit with Ramandu's Daughter. I hope its not a connection to the glow on Rhindon and that she is the one leading the travelers to safety. I'm also hoping that the quick fight scene with the faun isn't a battle with Gumpas (seems town-like in the BG). What makes that scene so great in the book is that Caspian acts with more power than he actually has and doesn't need to start a battle. I don't want this scene to be another excuse to have a fight scene (yes we all love them, but let's not overdo it).
Hmm, I'm not sure on the effects of Aslan yet. In facial expressions, it feels a step up from PC, but not quite LWW material. I'm not sure on his dark fur either and his mane seems a bit less cuddly this time around. I'll have to see it in the film for sure though. The change in Reepicheep's voice, didn't really notice it. From what was shown in the trailer, I feel that I will prefer the VDT version of Reep as compared to the PC one.
I really like seeing Peter and Susan, but I do wonder what there purpose is here. I'm glad that we do see them because it prevents the excuse of non-readers to say that Eustace is involved because the other children are gowing to old for the films (as is always the case with long running tv shows with kids and suddenly a new kid shows up for the reason that the others are too old). Maybe its just coincidence, but I feel like Edmund is mirroring Peter too much, as he was in PC (with the line of being a king, wanting to fight in the war/Peter involved in the bully fight in PC, and a bit of temptation by the White Witch). One of the enjoyable things about the Narnia characters is that, even though they go through the same events and experience similar things, they all have their own path to follow and make what they will of these experiences. Edmund in VDT just shouts too much of Peter in PC as of now. I also hope that this mirroring of characters doesn't take away from Lucy mirroring Susan (or they both end up mirroring their siblings because Edmund and Lucy are now carrying Peter and Susan's gifts).
Teaser trailer certainly does have the right terming. Seeing just a glimpse of things, I'm really pleased in some areas, but still waiting on others.

Now that I've had most of the day to think about the trailer, I'm not as upset by it. I've made up my mind that the CGI looks crappy because it's not done yet. There's just no way Ramandu's Daughter and her radioactive glow is the finished product.
As for the scene with all four of the Pevensies walking toward the camera, I can't help but wonder if it is taken from Caspian's Dark Island nightmare. Tony Nixon confirmed that Peter and Susan aren't actually in Narnia, so it's clearly not part of the normal reality of the movie. Despite the fact that Caspian didn't have much respect or reverence for the Pevensies in the previous movie, he very much did so in the book. It seems that Apted has moved Caspian back toward his book character. So what would Book! Caspian's worst nightmare be? Maybe it would be all four of the ancient kings and queens coming to him, telling him he's a horrible king and isn't fit to rule?
Honestly, I'm kinda surprised at what people have chosen to be upset about. We've known for ages that Edmund at some point will be using Rhindon. Why is everyone all that surprised that Lucy is using Susan's bow? It's certainly makes more sense for someone to use the thing than leave it moldering on a shelf somewhere. What do you want them to do, set up a Pevensie shrine with the Christmas gifts as holy relics for everyone to come bow before? Lewis himself set precedent for non-Pevensies using the gifts when he had Caspian bring the cordial in VDT. And Lucy does use a bow in the book. On Coriakin's Island, when they know that there's something invisible stalking them, someone (either Caspian or Drinian, I forget which) tells Lucy to keep an arrow on the string. So they aren't really changing anything. As for Caspian traveling with them to the world's end, all they're doing is moving his conversation with Aslan to the good-bye scene. Why is this freaking people out? And seriously, disliking the pulley elevator thing that lifts Caspian and Lucy onto the ship seems really silly. How do you expect them to get aboard, fly?
I think at this point we can safely assume Ramandu has been cut and so has his island. They've given us no reason to think he's in the movie. Also, did they even announce the casting of all seven lords? All I remember was the Dark Island one being cast. So the island they've cut is probably Ramandu's Island. This is a change that disturbs and irritates me. There's no reason for it. Associated with this change is what they've done to Ramandu's Daughter. I'm not terribly upset that she has star powers, what upsets me is that they've completely scrapped the Narnian star mythology. Narnian stars are never balls of gas, they're people shaped like Ramandu and Coriakin. They just happen to glow brightly. Apparently this isn't KEWL!!!11! enough for them.
I'm also a little calmer about the inclusion of the White Witch. If it's only a nightmare and Edmund doesn't actually go along with her, I can handle it. But if they have him be all "KEWL! I wanna be your king!" it will ruin the movie for me. They'll have effectively trashed every bit of his character development. The petulant king line isn't making me feel any better about this.
The Trailer was AMAZING...Can't wait to see Reep again!!!

I have to admit I haven't read all 12 pages of this thread sorry. I watched the trailer not long after it came out but was sad to see someone had posted it 5 hours earlier!!! Anyhow, I only had time for one quick watch as it kept stopping and starting. I have to say I loved it. I loved the way they did the water, Reep standing on the prow. Dufflepuds. Very cool.
I did not like the beginning, too reminiscent of Peter in PC. Something I didn't really like about PC. And now Edmund's like that too!!!
Ramandu's Daughter/Lilliandil looked weird to me and now we discover she's a star too. No, just a star's daughter - at least in the book. She looked too weird to me - how can Caspian expect to marry something as ethereal as that? And 'The fate of Narnia depends on you' ? Is that the seven swords thing. I wish they hadn't come up with that.
Georgie and Skandar are so grown up. Ben looks cool too, though I would have liked to see him and Eustace more. People who don't the books are probably like "Who on earth is he?" Also I did not like seeing Peter and Susan in Narnian looking clothes in the same place as Skandar and Lucy which appeared to be Aslan's world. They should not be there at all!!!! I'm okay if they're going to be in England, but not anywhere in Narnia and surrounding lands/seas.
I also agree with whoever said the minotaur looks too CG. To be honest, he doesn't even look real. And minotaurs shouldn't even be on the ship anyway ... but that actually doesn't bother me as much as some of you. I'll get over it ...
Also Reep's voice .... sounds the same. I'm much relieved. He does sound a tad older which is fine, but it's definitely consistent with PC (unless they just used his voice from that but I doubt it.)
The Book of Incantations was very cool too. With her looking like Susan (they did that blending well ) and the snow. But why did they have to change the name from The Book of Spells - what was wrong with that?
Is it actually Eustace who says 'This place just becomes weirder and weirder.' Because in my opinion it seems more likely he'd say that than the Chief Dufflepud as the transcript says.
The Lily Sea is very beautiful too!
Overall, I'm very happy with it!!! Seeing the first footage was very exciting!
Go Marina Erakovic!

I think at this point we can safely assume Ramandu has been cut and so has his island. They've given us no reason to think he's in the movie.
True that Ramandu is looking very doubtful, but his island is definitely there. We've seen a concept art illustration for it, we've had a set description by Douglas Gresham of a woodland glade banquet that is set there, and we've had numerous confirmations that all seven lords are present and correct - i guess the only reason we've only had two casting announcements for Lords is that those are the only two Lords who require something other than corpses to play them.
I also have not read all of the posts, but I have read some, and I must say that I am quite relieved that I am not the only one that was slightly disappointed with the trailer. For a general Narnia fan, it looks great. Cinematically, though, it needs a lot of work. There were several things in there that I felt could have been done much better. For instance, the painting. The water rushing out of it was kind of cool, but I had kind of hoped it would have been more like the book, where it grows bigger and bigger and looks more and more like the real thing, with wind whipping in their faces and the waves moving in and out of the picture. Oh, well, that's just my personal opinion. But the same thing with the end of the world. I had imagined a shimmering wall of water so high you had to crane your neck to see the top, with the intense clarity of Aslan's Country being slightly distorted by the movement of the water. Frankly, the Red Sea scene in C.B. deMille's The Ten Commandments seems more impressive than the glimpse of the world's end we got in the trailer. *sigh*. I guess that's just how things go when you're not the one making the movie...
Anyways, some of the CGI felt way too rough, but hopefully everything will be polished by the time the movie comes out. So, I won't complain about that right now (although, I am confused that a lot of people thought the transformation from Lucy to Susan was done well. In my opinion, it still needs a lot of work).
The things that really confused me were the blue sword and Peter and Susan in Narnian clothes. The whole blue sword thing gives it a really bad sci-fi/fantasy blend feel to it. Hopefully it's nothing too bad. I'm not too worried about Peter and Susan--don't forget, there was some footage in the LWW trailers that got cut from the movie. They might just have them because they feel familiar to the general audience. I know that a lot of moviegoers (the ones that are not familiar with the story) were very upset that Peter and Susan won't return. Perhaps they included them in the trailer to help pacify some people?
Anyways, now for the stuff I loved. The opening scene with Edmund trying to enlist is classic, even if it is a lot like Peter in PC. Someone mentioned in the early posts (sorry, can't remember who), though, that it is more like Edmund is eager to serve his home country since he can no longer do the same in Narnia as King, and less like Peter's selfishness. I must say that I really like that idea. I really loved the Book of Incantations and the Magician's House. It looks gorgeous, and the scene with the snow seems like a nod to Lucy's first entrance into Narnia. Love it! I agree that they should have shown Eustace and Caspian more, but don't forget that this is just a teaser (emphasis on teaser) trailer. They'll show a lot more when the actual trailer comes out. Also, I think Nighy did an excellent job imitating Izzard with Reepicheep. I doubt anyone will be able to tell it's somebody else!
Okay, I've got a lot more to say, but it's getting really late and I need to go to bed...
