I haven't played as many ff as i should of. Oh well one day i will get around to it.
It'd be a lot easier for me to get a copy of a Nintendo based FF than a PS based FF.
Well, it's kinda funky too...see the original FF was for the regular NES. In Japan they released several more while here in the US (and I imagine most other places) we had to wait for the Super Nintendo to get the next two installments (2 and 3). Now those three you can probably find pretty easy, but when Square was ready to make FF7, the story goes that Nintendo refused to budge on its cartridge based games. Cartridges were too limited for what Square had in mind, so they approached Sony, and the latter ended up making lots of money out of the deal. There's been rumors for a while now that there would be a remake for the Wii, but thus far no dice. The game is still incredible fun but it does require that you own a PS One to get it to work. You can get it for PC too...I have a copy floating around here somewhere on PC. Hmm...

There are actually a couple DS FF games, the most known one being Crystal Chronicles (Ring of Fates and Echoes of Time), as well as two for the Wii (Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time and Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers)

thats a shame, oh well...
anyone here ever play Final Fantasy Dissidia or Dissidia 012?
I just recently got a PSP, since I totally missed out on that. The advantage of getting it now is that games are fairly cheap... and guess what? Dissidia was actually one of the reasons why I wanted to get it... Haven't been able to get around to play it yet, though.
cool, I recommend you only play Dissidia 012, it has the story for that game and the story from the original Dissidia game on there

Yep, heard about that as well, so I only got the new one.
good move, did you also think about trying Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII?

Actually.. even though I generally like JRPGs, I'm not too fond of the Final Fantasy series... the only titles I've played and enjoyed were usually spin-offs (Like Chocobo's dungeon, since I like roguelikes). And Dissidia looks just very well-made to garner my interest (And I like 1-on-1 fighters of all sorts, 2D and 3D alike).
ahh, makes sense. I didn't really get into FF until very recently, so I know what you mean

I haven't been here in a while. I am currently playing through Final Fantasy: Chrystal Chronicles (for the GameCube and first one in that series)...Actually, I just finished it. Good game. I expect to go through Chrystal Bearers next.
Perhaps my favorite RPG right now is Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii. I think it stands out above the Final Fantasy series for story, script, gameplay, and music. And that's coming from an FF fan.
Be watching for the release of my spiritual warfare novel under a new title: "Call to Arms" by OakTara Publishing. A sequel (title TBD) will shortly follow.
Aw, FK! If you have an old Nintendo laying around it'd be worth it to give Final Fantasy II and III a shot at least. FF I is fun, but very archaic, so you have to be patient with clunky interfaces and choppy graphics. If those don't bother ya, you're good to go.
Well I pulled up an emulator that we have and discovered that we have FF I and IV

I couldn't really get into the first one because as you said, it was pretty archaic, so I gave IV a whirl. Maybe the emulator didn't have a good copy, or maybe this is the way the game is, but the translations are right up there with "All your base are belong to us. Somebody set us up the bomb." It took quite a while to figure out that I was playing the good guy instead of a bad guy as he obliterated a bunch of wizards to steal a water crystal. Or something like that. Anyways, I didn't get too far.
It reminded me of Shining Force, which is still one of my favorite games ever. Might have to dust that one off again.
So I'm about halfway through the campaign on Heart of the Swarm. Storyline is interesting, I'll be curious to see where they take it. I don't have a lot of time to play though cause kiddo takes up a lot of it and then when my husband is home in the evening, I'm busy working on all the stuff I didn't have time to do during the day. But really, there's no rush. It'll probably be another three to five years before Blizzard gets part 3 out. I think I can finish it before then.
FF2 (er...IV) was wonderful and I have fond memories of it. You know, coming from the original FF, FF2 (er...IV) was a major step upwards in terms of graphics and plot, and it was thoroughly addictive. I remember that Kain was my favorite character in the game, especially since his Dragoon abilities keep him off the screen when the rest of your group gets wiped by some uber boss/monster thingie.
Truth be told though the graphics for many of those older games are pretty wretched by today's standards. It may be worth it to see if you can dig up a copy of FF7. It was the first one that really brought the FF series into the "modern" rpg world...although whether FF7 or any of the other FF's are to be considered a legit RPG is a matter of debate. It sorta is, but a lot of times isn't. Sorta. At any rate, I'm relatively certain you can get a copy of it for PC on the cheap, and playing on a PC monitor versus an old TV like we did...well, you'll see much crisper graphics. The "all your base are belong to us" is still very much there at times and the dialogue is clunky as is the case in a lot of Japanese-to-English ports, but the game is rock solid, wonderfully designed, deeply atmospheric, and just plain fun. It truly is the best FF game they ever designed or released, which is part of the reason I'm sure one still sees lots of FF7 related games and add-ons released to this day. The PC version is a bit pricey to be sure...perhaps I can send you my copy sometime. Give it a whirl and tell me whatcha think.
