But if we're going to go that route I can easily bring up Baldur's Gate and Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, two outstanding games that are absolutely RPG's in the truest sense of the form. Arcanum especially was a lot of fun...a Steampunk adventure featuring all the classic fantasy races (Elves, Dwarfs, Orcs, etc.) but in a Victorian era setting where high technology is set against arcane magic.
Hmm, what is that route ?
I don't have much more to add right now, but: Does anyone else find it funny, that nowadays "classic fantasy races" are basically what came from Tolkien
Hmm, what is that route
?
That route is pulling out the stops, so to speak I mean if we're going to go with pure RPG's why not start where the genre really began, with paper and pencil RPG translations to video game formats. RPG's very nature is such that by default the character has to be able to make independent choices and have several different possible endings for the quest or campaign (or in this case the game). This is why I don't really consider the Final Fantasy games (and those like them) to be true RPG's because they tend to be linear with no ability to affect the outcome other than crafting a few new weapons or learning a few spells. What you do in the beginning has no bearing on the outcome of the game. That doesn't make them bad games...goodness, I spent countless hours on FF7 myself
. But it's not an RPG. Deus Ex is an RPG in that courses of action you take in the beginning can lead to different outcomes later on in the game.
The System Shock and Bioshock games are nice Shooter/RPG hybrids (they have RPG elements, although they're not true RPG's). The Mass Effect games are Third-person Shooter/RPG hybrids that have strong RPG elements (alternate endings, character traits and actions that carry from one game to the next, good and evil, etc.). I also recommend traditional (ish) RPG games like the Diablo series, otherwise known as "dungeon crawls". They're quite fun . Several of the Fallout games are still (to me anyway) great RPG's...one can be evil, good, or neutral. They can outfit themselves in many ways, can choose to do certain quests or totally ignore them. You can tailor your character down to its basic attributes (strength, agility, perception, etc.) and thus a character can end up being agile and a crack shot with a pistol or knife but be a creampuff when it comes down to a grudge fight with fists. Or they can be a super intelligent know-it-all that can work around security systems with a pack of gum and a wrench. Or even the lumbering melee monster who can flatten opponents with one hit of their fists but be as intelligent as a bag of hammers. That, to me (and many others), is a true RPG and by far the most fun.
Oh, FK! I'm in the process of downloading MM6 demo. For some wacky reason it's not on Steam (all other MoM iterations have demos there though...weird). Just thought I'd let you know .

One of my friends was showing me Okami on the Wii on Friday I must admit it looks interesting The bug guy can be a bit cheesy but he is funny... and the art is spectacular
She's also another WQ player... we're both excited for 2.5 Hopefully it'll be out this month

Well, I went ahead and got myself a 3DS finally. I also got myself The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. It's like going back to my childhood, except I'm no longer scared about the skeletons that come out at night, I finally know how to sneak into the castle, I can make my way through dungeons on my own and I'm not looking at a player's guide every two seconds to figure out what I'm supposed to do.
In other words, it's almost nothing like my childhood.

I have been blasting through Kingdom Hearts 1. It's a much more difficult game than I was expected but SO much fun. I absolutely love the boss fights, music just adds to it. I'm at the end of the game with what I believe is the final stage. So far my favorite three stages are Atlantica and Hollow Bastian and the Hades Cup at The Coliseum.
I also pre-ordered Zelda: Skyward Sword yesterday. Included in the pre-order is a golden Wii-mote with the Motion Sensor+, and a Zelda soundtrack CD. That's going to be awesome. The only challenge I will have is going to be acquiring the game in conjunction with my parents' and my move. Hard to play the game when you have to have everything packed.
Be watching for the release of my spiritual warfare novel under a new title: "Call to Arms" by OakTara Publishing. A sequel (title TBD) will shortly follow.

Not that I don't know what you're talking about, but just as an FYI, Might and Magic VI is actually a completely different game. (Wiki link)
It drives me nuts cause I'm often too lazy to type in the full name myself so I pull up that one up instead of HEROES of Might and Magic VI.
At any rate, I haven't played HMM6 for a few days now due to the fact I've been busy with my job and my husband has come home and plays D&D online .
Now THAT game is a trip. We all sit around making fun of the role playing voice from above. But after about ten minutes it drives me up a wall so much I have to leave.

Well another mini-update from the WQ admin. The release date has not changed again, and they are fairly certain it will be out in October...
I just finished my last game (with a weird glitch too) I'm debating if I should start a new one now or just wait until next month after 2.5 is released.

@wolfloversk: Is WolfQuest the type of game that has an end? Or is it a continuous type of game?
I'm currently playing Ico.
It's the first Japanese game we have every played/owned.
Both Ico and it's sequel Shadow of the Colossus were restored in HD for the PS3, they came together on one disc.
Plot
The story of ICO follows a forsaken young boy with horns and a girl named Yorda as they attempt to escape from the dark confines of a cursed castle.
It's a very simple game, but very enjoyable.
We are going to play Shadow of the Colossus next.

7Chronicles, I have heard of Shadows of the Colossus, and it looked like a very beautiful game. I almost bought it back when I (very briefly) had a PS2. The artwork of the game was something I had never seen before and still haven't, and the gameplay was enough to make me want to give it a shot. Let me know if it's still good!

If you move on to episode 2 (Slough Creek) upon completeing all the "quests" it does end, but you can spend as long as you'd like in Episode 1 (Amethyst Mountain) even after you find a mate... But altogether yes there is an end, though you can move at your own pace though the game.
I generally like to stay in Amethyst Mountain for a while after I complete it and

Both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are beautifully artistic even for PS2 games!
That was also one of the reasons I was so interested in buying them, and they were highly rated for both gameplay and uniqueness.
I'm really enjoying Ico right now!
We plan on playing Shadow of the Colossus after we are finished, I'll defiantly let you know how it is!
The same team who created both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus have a new game coming out next year, and like their other games it's beatifull looking!
I really love how all three of their games use the same colors and have the same look to them.

Thanks wolfloversk! When I get my computer, I'll have to ask you for advice and tips! If you don't mind.

I know right! Me and my sister always felt most of the Japanese games were to weird or anime styled to be interested in.
But the artwork of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus is beautiful!
They really stand out from other games.

Not a problem! It's actually a fairly easy game once you get it figured out. Though the last mission is still extremely difficult.
Just make sure your not like me on my first time, I didn't realized that Q toggled run so I was trying to hunt elk while my wolf was walking It was hard enough trying to catch a hare XD

Defiantly, huh?
So Ico was also a PS2 title? Yeah, let me know how those are . I don't think Shadows has been ported to X-Box 360, and may never be. If I ever come into possession of another PS2 it's a title I'll pick up this time.
