In my excitement in now waiting just a year before The Hobbit comes out, I am reading the book for the second time. I am understanding a lot of the plot better, and picking up more detail.
I hope that I will soon be able to read the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and be able to participate in more J.R.R. Tolkien related discussions.
I have heard that there are many fans of the books that the Glorfindel that met the company and led them to Rivendel is the same one mentioned leading a group out of Gondolin during it's fall.
I'm a little confused since during that part it says that he died while killing a Balrog that was attacking the group.
I was wondering if there was anybody here that thought like that so they could explain it to me. And to anybody else, your thoughts on the matter?

Silvan_Haven, I read about that not too long ago in my copy of Robert Foster's Guide to Middle-Earth. Originally, the two Glorfindels were one and the same. Eventually, the character in LotR was developed separately from the one mentioned at Gondolin and Glorfindel became two separate elves named Glorfindel. Apparently this is the only instance of two elves holding the same name in all of Tolkien. However, if you wish to interpret the two as still being the same character, you could always speculate that he was sent back by the Valar like Gandalf was (though it would be a bit different given Gandalf's nature as a Maiar). This might also explain why Glorfindel is such a powerful elf lord in LotR.

My thoughts on this:
Other than that, it is amazingly perfect. I got chills at the part when the dwarves are singing. My goodness, I absolutely cannot wait for this.
The poster does seem kind of misleading to me. I thought they were calling it The Hobbit... but on the poster, it only says "An Unexpected Journey." Ah, well. The poster is still gorgeous.

The. Dwarves. Are. Singing. Squee!
I am 99.9% sure that the "No Admittance Except on Party Business" sign is on Bilbo's front gate in the scene with Bilbo and Frodo.
Loved the shots of the Dwarves; they're working really hard to make them individuals and I think it's working. And they're singing!
@ Dot. I was stoked that they were singing too. It was unspeakably beautiful. I got chills.
I loved how individual the dwarves are, as well. I think the goal was to make each dwarf stand out, and it's working. I can remember almost all of their faces, which is good considering I get confused between the seven dwarves from Snow White. Thorin is also amazing. I was skeptical at first when they selected Richard Armitage, mostly because he's cemented in my mind as Guy of Gisbourne from the BBC Robin Hood. However, I love him. He didn't even remotely remind me of Guy or even Richard Armitage, which means that he's playing this role uniquely. I love that. He just... is so Thorin!
What does everyone think of Martin Freeman's performance so far?

Ahh, teaser trailers. They can show you so much and so little at the same time.
What does everyone think of Martin Freeman's performance so far?
I actually thought he was overacting a little. His gestures and facial expressions just look a little exaggerated. The hobbits in LotR were the same way, so I wonder if that's what Peter Jackson is going for. It didn't ruin LotR for me, and I don't think it'll ruin this either, but it does bug me slightly.
General thoughts: Sets and costumes all looked phenomenal, and the dwarves' song was even better than I pictured it. We didn't get to see many supporting characters(most notably Beorn), but I guess that's to be expected. Oh, I hope that's not a Gandalf/Galadriel romance. It was just a brief little shot, could be anything really, but I'm a little worried nonetheless. Also, I'm assuming that that brief shot of Gandalf battling that other wizard has something to do with him going off to drive out the Necromancer, and has me interested about that subplot.
Mark my words, someday I will think of something brilliant to put in my sig.
I think I may have just spotted
EDIT: Here's a screenshot of the said person mentioned in the spoiler: http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h36 ... 00shot.png
What do you think? Him or someone/something else?
