[Closed] Star Wars - A New Chapter

When we got word that Disney was bringing Star Wars back to the big screen, some
of us jumped for joy. Some of us figured it would be a disaster (especially when they decided to completely toss out the existing Expanded Universe). Some of us were just curious.

Now we have a theatrical trailer for the first movie in a new trilogy...

Spoiler
We have Chewie, Han, Leia, R2D2, new characters, and no Luke Skywalker

Welcome to the next chapter in a galaxy far far away.

This thread is for all things Star Wars. Books, comics, movies, cartoons, even the video games.

The only thing I ask is that you put ANY speculation and details about the upcoming movie into spoiler tags for those who may not wish to know anything about it.

I shall add my two cents in along the way.

I was just discussing the Star Wars movie with my sibs this past weekend. While none of us are planning on seeing the movie the moment it comes out, my sister is planning on seeing it a few days later, unless the reviews are horrible. My brother on the other hand is not planning on seeing it unless the reviews are stellar. (Of course the reviews for Episodes I, II, and III were stellar and those movies are.... well, I shan't say it here. :P )

I'm more in my brother's group, though I am not so much interested in seeing the Star Wars movies than I am in reliving the golden days of going to a movie theater and seeing a movie without kids. :)) And it's been a long time since I've been to a movie theater. I think the last one was Guardians of the Galaxy? Plus I'd like to discuss a new movie again with my geeky buddies. ;)

I've been avoiding spoilers with this Star Wars movie so I have no idea what's going on. I did watch the new trailer this morning and ended up being more confused than ever, but that's ok. ;))

(especially when they decided to completely toss out the existing Expanded Universe)

Which is about the only reason I'm interested in the continuing series. I do not care for the story with Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin.

I am actually more interested in the movie Rogue One. I think all that's out for that is the storyline and one picture?

Oh I don't care for where that storyline ended up going. I was more miffed that they tossed out Zahn's books. Though I suspect the age of the actors may have factored into that. That and the Rogue squadron series.

If Rogue One is anything like the Rogue Squadron books, it'll be fantastic! I don't know anything about it at all though.

Out of all of the EU books I've read, I think Timothy Zahn is probably the best of the authors and he came closest to capturing the feel of the original trilogy.

I liked the new trailer. I have no clue what's going on (other than things going BOOM) but it's trying really hard to sell itself as A Story I Will Like... ;)) (I'm trying not to get my hopes up because it was more the scenes without words that I liked; the dialogue seemed of the 'I've heard this before' sort.)

I have read one of the new lead-up to the movie novels--Moving Target--and while it wasn't the greatest thing I ever read it did a decent job of portraying the characters from the original trilogy. I'm hopeful that means the script will do the same.

I haven't touched any of the new books. Didn't know there actually were any. I'll have to take a look.

There's at least one other one I'm interested in reading, though it's a retelling of A New Hope. It's called The Princess, The Scoundrel, and the Farmboy.

It looks like the new novels appear in sets so I may have to track down Weapon of a Jedi and Smuggler's Run as well. Not nearly as interested by the other two movie rehashes, which seem less serious than the movies.

I'm eagerly looking forward to Episode VII I've been a huge Star Wars fan since I was little it's second only to Narnia for me as far as fandom go

I decided to skip the last trailer for fear of spoilers it seems like most trailers now of days give away to much I love how little the first two trailers showed and how little of the story they gave us.

I must admit to being lukewarm (pardon the pun) about a new Star Wars film. I was a huge fan of the original film (A New Hope) when it was first released in 1977, and of The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi also. But I thought The Phantom Menace was so awful that I never bothered to see Episodes II and III.

Looking forward to the new movie. What I am seeing in previews so far looks good. My only misgiving is in how long can the original characters play into the story given the age of the actors.

I'm looking forward to the new movie. I was sorely disappointed in the prequel trilogy. (They've been out so long that I'm not hiding spoilers.) Face it - "The Phantom Menace" was a movie about taxes with a speeder race that lasted way too long. And it was boring. "Attack of the Clones" had Anikin whining SO much (the man who become Darth Vader is a whiny brat?? Really????). And in "Revenge of the Sith," we're supposed to accept that Anikin turns evil because of his great love for Padme - nope, I don't buy it. (Not to mention all of the things that they changed from the original trilogy - the nature of the Force, Leia remembering her mother, etc.)

But with JJ Abrams in charge - I'm hopeful for this next trilogy. I might wind up being disappointed again, but I'm HOPEFUL. I think that he's a good storyteller and can do this sequel justice.

Further up and further in!!

I'm really looking forward to both movies coming out. Rouge One is an interesting idea for a side-picture. Force Awakens looks really fantastic. I think JJ Abrams really cranked it up a notch this time, provided he keeps his fetish for lens flares to himself. :D

I'm still waiting for a Boba Fett or Obi-Wan Kenobi anthology side film. Really the only side film I would really jump outta my skin for. They should've gone with those first in my opinion. But it all looks good. ;)

I have to admit that I'm avoiding most of the trailers that have been coming out. I'm toying with taking part of the 18th off and going to go see it. I may just wait till the week of Christmas and tangle with the crowds.

I will be taking the offspring this Saturday. I just hope the local crowds are not to crazy. I am admittedly wondering how they will play all the original characters into the plot.

Well, I'll be avoiding most of the internet for this next week. I normally don't mind spoilers, but good grief I've already seen a few things I wish I hadn't. Wanted to go opening weekend, but we're all going to an Imax theater on Christmas Eve, and it's a good thing too, because the showing we picked is the only one at that theater not sold out until after the 27th.

I do have to mention this for posterity though. We've all sat down to watch the previous films these past few days (and proceeded to stay up far too late discussing them). After seeing Attack of the Clones for the first time, my six-year-old niece proclaimed in a rather disappointed voice, "That movie was more romantic than epic." ;))

My spoiler free reaction:

Oh wow...

Not a fan of 3D. Accidentally bought tickets to the 3D version. I'd go back and watch it again in 3D. Visuals were impressive.

You'll either love it, hate it, or go huh?

Will do a review in spoilers at a later date.
