I love the Spiderwick Chronicles. It's a bookseries and they were all conjoined in that one movie which would make complete sense why because the series were so short that there wasn't really anything epic about them as one series. Although the books are very good too I like the movie more.

I didn't really care for Inkheart. It felt too.... controlled. To me it seemed like the type of movie that could have been so much more than it was. It's a bit since I saw it, so I can't point out any particular instances, but it just felt to controlled.
I kind of have the same opinion myself. The plot concept is really inventive (therefore I'd think the book it's based upon is cleverly plotted), but for some reason the movie never seemed to jump out at me. It was pleasant...not a bad movie, really. Just kind of...ho-hum. The film had a very "controlled" feeling about it, like you said...I would liken it to driving a Lamborghini Countach on a long, straight road with no speed limit, but having an engine governor installed which prevented you from going above 60mph. Frustrating.

Fans of Jamie Bell must see Nicholas Nickleby. It was the first movie I saw with him in it and I absolutely loved it (and his performance). It also stars Anne Hathaway, Jim Broadbent, Christopher Plummer, and Romola Garai.
I also love Defiance though it's very hard to watch in some parts.
Billy Elliot I enjoyed, though I can't say it's a favorite. Jamie Bell was brilliant, of course, but some of the content made me feel a little queasy. I do want to see the musical based on it though. The song "Electricity" gave me chills the first time I heard it and is one of my favorite songs to this day.
I can't say I loved Inkheart, but I enjoyed it for what it was. I wish they'd stayed closer to the book in some parts, but Helen Mirren as Elinor was fantastic.
I also enjoyed (but didn't love) Eagle Eye. I'm a fan of Shia LaBeouf and thought he did well. It was the kind of popcorn thriller I like when I don't have to think very hard about the plot but can still be a little creeped out at how attentive and stalkerish
I really need to rewatch Gladiator. I saw it for Latin class some years ago with my dad (who edited it when he had to). Now that I can see R-rated movies without parental editing (:P) I'm looking forward to watching it in its entirety.
The Spiderwick Chronicles I extremely enjoyed and liked very much. It's almost exactly like the book series (except for one book which they left out of the movie which I can understand as that book deterred somewhat from the main plotline), and the characters look exactly like the illustrations from the books. Also I'm a big Freddie Highmore fan, so seeing him play twins was double the fun.
Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium I liked. Not sure about Natalie Portman's haircut (:P) but she did a good job I thought. Of course Dustin Hoffman was amazing, and I really liked the character of the Mutant (forget his name at the moment) and how they developed him. I too would love to go to a toy store like that.
I liked The Princess and the Frog but I didn't love it. The illustrations were gorgeous but the songs weren't all that memorable and the voodoo stuff was a little annoying in some parts (though deliciously creepy in others, which I thought was interesting).
I loved The Blind Side. I saw it with my mom and of course she cried. I didn't, but I could see why someone would! I love Sandra Bullock's acting and thought she deserved the Oscar for her performance in that movie. Amazing (true!) story and great portrayal of it. Not the best made movie, perhaps, but I loved it just the same.
(And I think this is the longest post I've ever posted in the Past Movies Thread. )

The Spiderwick Chronicles- well being a HUGE fan of the books, I was slightly dissapointed in this movie. I wish they did more than one movie, especially since they skipped my favorite book . However I ADORE Freddie Highmore as the twins. He's my favorite actor and he potrayed their characters perfectly. Mallory was ok. Their mom was great. Actually I can't remember what I didn't like exactly...Oh yeah, now I remember. I didn't like that

Eagle Eye- I told my sister what you all think of this movie and she was very uspet- it's her second favorite movie, her first being The Forbidden Kingdom . She likes action movies like that. To me Eagle Eye is a nice action flick to watch ocassionaly, but it is kinda cliche and I usually prefer deep meaningful, based on a true story movies, or period romances, to action movies
.
Inkheart- what exactly do you guys mean as "contained" or whatever. I don't understand. I thought the movie was pretty good, though it's not one of my favorites.
I haven't seen Julie and Julia yet, but I really really want to. I also really want to see The Young Victoria. I was supposed to see that in theatres with a friend but unforunately we never got to it .

Agreed. Jamie Bell was fantastic in Nicholas Nickleby; not my favorite movie all around, but it's certainly worth a watch for a few of the good performance. The actor who played Nicholas was just plan poorly cast though; he had no charm and no presence, imo.
I also love Defiance though it's very hard to watch in some parts.
Defiance was a fantastic movie! The performances are very strong, but yes, it does get a little bit heavy in places.

Narnian1, does that mean you'll be watching the Tintin movie when it comes out? Jamie Bell is in it!
Without a doubt! I have had that in my movies to watch list for quite some time now
About Nicholas Nickelby,
Personally I didn't like the movie- Tried twice to see it. The only thing I did enjoy was Jamie Bell- he did his part well.
Billy Elliot,
I agree some on the content is not for me either, but looking at the positive of that movie, I love it! and I too want to see the musical to it, supposed to hit Florida next year. Maybe I'll get to go.
Mr Magorium,
Silly predictable movie but I own it, thought it was great.
I much prefered the ending of Spiderwick Chronicles in the movie rather then in the book. Oh well I guess that is what i get for watching the movie first rather then reading the books first.

Yes probably. You should never do that .
I don't know if I want them to make a movie of the next series. It would be cool but I don't want them to ruin it. That could be one movie though, since the stories go right together.
Yeah I expected the book series to have one book that was based on the first movie but it wasn't, they were all meshed together. But while reading the books I can see how and why they sort of did it. Though it would make a very good animated series for nickelodeon or something.

no not an animated series!!!! I would HATE that! A movie could be ok but not a tv show!
Just finished rewatching Pixar's Up, I always liked it but not nearly as much as the other Pixar movies- nor as much as other people. It's growing on me. Not saying it's the case with everyone who loved it, but for me I think I found why I didn't praise it like most:
Not sure if it should be spoiler or not so I'll just place them in boxes just in case:

2.
Being 25yrs old I will never experience the 1st, but I will experience the 2nd one day. Only then do I think I could connect with the movie on a more personal level. I assume one of these two things is what helps many, not all, connect with the movie so much.
I think it would be cute if it was animated GTG. I also feel the same way about Narnia having an animated TV series. I'm going to try this when I take flash next semester in college.

well now that I think about it, it could be cute...but whoever did it would have to be careful they didn't make it cheesy and child-ish. I know it's a children's series, but I wouldn't want the show to be something only 6-8 year olds could watch.
Yes I know exactly what you mean by that GTG. But I'm 20 years old and still watch Rugrats, even the movies
I'm truly an 8 year old at heart. If it were anything I wish Disney Channel would do it since to me the shows are going down hill on that channel and something with more of an actual plot would be better. Just my opinion though
