Btw, I'm not taking these opinions just from PluggedIn, I've seen this movie a good 3-5 times. I guess I'm just a bit cautious...well it depends, violence doesn't bother me at all .
About Sally- well it would have been best if they didn't have that situation at all. They didn't have to put in the script that when she was just offering him a room at the hotel, it sounded like she was offering him her own. I just didn't think it was necessary.
yeah, not putting it in definitely would've been better. yeah you're cautious, sometimes I think TOO cautious but that's a good thing I guess. Whatever works for you is definitely best
It's always best to be cautious than sorry afterward.
Well yeah I guess I might be too cautious but if I don't have to see something, why see it? That's why I wait to see most movies until they're out on DVD- I can watch it with a clearplay so I don't have to see the junk that clouds up a good story. Just my opinion .
I definitely see your point, I hold many movies for DVD for the same reasons- others I just ignore because of content. I definitely respect that. Don't mean to judge your way of doing things.
Ok thanks. I'm glad we can understand each other .
The past few weeks I've been really wanting to watch Eagle Eye so I requested it from my library today- does anyone like that movie?
Personally I didn't like Eagle Eye,
I rented it- couldn't make it to the end of the movie.
Wowsers? Cars considered crude? I honestly don't see what's so immoral about a bit of toilet humour. Many kids love toilet humour and as far as 'offensive' content goes, I reckon it's harmless. I didn't notice the parodies of taking God's name in vain. On one hand they're clever, on the other hand they're almost too close for comfort.
But seriously, lam-blasting Cars for crude humour and not having a problem with extreme violence seems a bit one-sided to me.

Agreed W4J. I was amazed that someone had taken obviously so much time to nitpick a single movie down to its rivets like that...truly stunned, in reality. I think of all the things people could focus thier time and energies on in this world, problemwise, (and there's a ton of it) and they instead zero in on a kid's movie to this degree? Really? My Snarkmeter redlined and pegged so hard it broke out of the guage and is now laying in my lap , but I'll try and say that while I respect any agency that goes out and tries to test the waters to see if a movie is good and wholesome for family viewing, it's a snipe hunt, a fool's errand. We're living in a corrupt world, and that corruption is going to get into every single thing we watch. It's good to filter down the worst of it (there are films out there that no self-respecting person, Christian or otherwise should watch), but if you think you're going to find a perfect movie made by imperfect people, I've got a bridge to sell ya in the Sahara Desert.
I might have to give this website a look, I have a feeling a good 90% of the DVD's on my shelf would probably be on the "banned" list.

I love how you used the word 'rivets' in the sentence, very appropriate.
The sad thing is, there are websites even more strict than Plugged In Online!
I'm looking at my DVD's and while none of them are 'extreme' in the normal sense, I believe most of mine would be banned too. If they're going to look at the 'offensive' content in a movie, they should also look at the context (and also not cater their reviews to such a general audience). Of course almost every movie will be seen as inappropriate if you rate movies as if they should be appropriate for a three-year old! It annoys me. Not only that, but a lot of good movies are left on the way side, and a lot of well-intentioned (but poorly-made) Christian movies get the thumbs up. They may be rubbish but they have an altar call etc.

Oh my, don't even get me started on Pluggedin...
I saw Cars in theaters with my church group in high school, and honestly don't remember being offended by anything in that movie. I didn't particularly enjoy it, but didn't think there was anything to be up in arms about. My mother uses Pluggedin reviews religiously when making decisions on seeing movies for herself and my younger brother, whose 14. I occasionally give the site a glance, not really for my own benefit but because I am intrigued to see what their reviewers say about movies that I personally really enjoy, and I've seen reviews for more adult themed movies that haven't been nitpicked to the degree that Cars was.
The funny thing is they were one of the few Christian movie review websites to give 'Where The Wild Things Are' a positive review and thumbs up. So, they're not always over the top, just most of the time.

I said that the humor in Cars was one of the reasons I didn't like it, not the only.
Personally I didn't like Eagle Eye,
I rented it- couldn't make it to the end of the movie.![]()
aww really?! it's one of my favorite movies! Was it b/c it's kinda cliche?
I honestly don't see what's so immoral about a bit of toilet humour. Many kids love toilet humour and as far as 'offensive' content goes, I reckon it's harmless.
it's not that it's immoral, it's that it's immature and gross.
But seriously, lam-blasting Cars for crude humour and not having a problem with extreme violence seems a bit one-sided to me.
I'm not lam-blasting cars and I never said extreme violence. I just don't like the humor in the movie, and I don't use clearplay for (most) movies violence-wise, up to PG13.
So, they're not always over the top, just most of the time.
I think sometimes but I know everyone dissagrees with me .

well for one they don't have a banned list ( ), but me too! I didn't mean to imply that PluggedIn is the ultimate authority but I do trust them alot. I find that they usually meet my standards, and if they give a movie a bad review, I probably won't like it. (the one movie I didn't like the review for [that I can think of] was LWW
) But I do like some movies that they think are not good. But for those I usually use clearplay.
I took a look at PluggedIn and I'm mightily disappointed...not because of their reviews, but because most of the movies I own aren't there at all . I'm guessing that this site only started reviewing movies within the last decade or so. No reviews of Total Recall (this one would have been a hoot!), Aliens, Predator (although they do have AvP), 28 Days Later, Heat, Red Dawn, Conan the Barbarian, or a whole host of other older films. They also have computer game reviews, but apparently the same general rule applies, only relatively new (within the last 3-4 years) games. They didn't have Half-Life 2, F.E.A.R. 1, or even Age of Empires III! Good grief...hire some more staff reviewers, please!
I was really looking forward to seeing their takes on some of my favorite movies, but no dice.

Ah, the PluggedIn discussion again...personally, I'm not a big fan. I was pretty close to writing an e-mail to them after I read the Return of the King review well, maybe not that mad, but it just really disappointed me. I'll look at it every once in a while though, it can be a nice resource for certain movies.
Aw, that stinks about Eagle Eye Narnia1, I've wanted to see it for a while now
I love Cars (well, I love pretty much every Pixar movie) and didn't really find anything offensive in it. That's just me though.
I was wondering, is anyone here a fan of "Gladiator"? I've seen everything up to the last 15 or 20 minutes (well, I stopped right after

About Eagle Eye,
it might have been that it was cliche. I don't always mind cliche but this felt like a cheap knock-off of some of my favorite movies- so that definitely hurt it.
I couldn't get into Gladiator either,
I think Russell Crowe is a great actor: Master and Commander, A Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Man, even 3:10 to Yuma but something about this movie just didn't click with me.
Did Plugged-in actually give Narnia:LWW a bad review?!
