I love movie soundtracks!!!
Well, I'll start with what I have. I absolutely love the Zorro soundtracks. Anyone else? I have both of them. I also, obviously love the Narnia soundtracks. I have both of them too and are eagerly awaiting VDT's one. My Mum owns the Pride and Prejudice (2005) soundtrack which is absolutely fantastic and I have it on my iPod. I also bought the Fiddler On The Roof soundtrack off iTunes for my Nana. It is by John Williams and is very different to his other work that I've heard. And I must admit I quite like John Williams. I like the Indiana Jones soundtracks of his, though I don't have them. I also own "He's A Pirate" off POTC soundtrack and am tempted to buy POTC3 soundtrack can anyone recommend it? Unfortunately I don't think they sell either of the other one's soundtracks on iTunes any more though I'm sure they used to. They definitely had POTC1 anyhow. I also own one song of the The Second Chance soundtrack, one off the Princess Diaries 2 soundtrack and one of The Son of the Pink Panther.
I also absolutely love the National Treasure soundtracks by Trevor Rabin and really want no. 1 but unfortunately it'll cost me $50 to get.
Here's a quick thing as to why I love each one:
Zorro - because of the Latin American influence as I love that culture. It's very exciting but it also has lovely (currently indescribable ) moments also. I also really like the track 'I Want To Spend My Lifetime Loving You.'
Narnia - So varied. Very emotional pieces, what I mean by that is it plays with lots of different emotions and they are captured perfectly in the music.
Pride and Prejudice - So romantic and again emotional, but also very relaxing. (In fact, I'm listening to it right now.)
POTC - How can you not love this music? Like someone has said it is good if you are kind of depressed, gets you up and wanting to jump around. Really cool! Otherwise, it's quite hard to describe why I like it. Does anyone think I should by the soundtrack for POTC3?
Fiddler on the Roof - Cool to sing along too. I enjoy the old musicals!
Pink Panther - similar to POTC. Very bubbly kind of music.
Well, an uber long post from me, but I'll end it here.

I love the Fireproof soundtrack. I didn't have enough money to get the whole soundtrack so I just bought Slow Fade and Worship While I'm Waiting off iTunes. Those are the best songs anyway.
HM Swanwhite, I think you would probably like PotC3. It's much more orchestral based than the first (which has a TON of synthesizers mixed in) and a little bit darker/epic. Overall, a very good score by Hans Zimmer.
P.S, I'd recommend buying the actual physical CD if possible. It's one of those scores that you need to play over a sound system. MP3 format just doesn't do it justice.

Well, about a week and a half ago I got the soundtrack to Legends of the Fall (1994, James Horner). All I can say is... Wow. By far one of Horner's greatest film scores that doesn't repeat a lot of his early work.
The score is heavily based in the strings and horns, which is perfect. The LSO performs beautifully as usual. Pretty much every track on the album is amazing, with the exception of the synth heavy "Revenge", though that track is easily skippable with nothing lost.
I can't think of another Horner score that is so sweeping and moving as this one. This is what Titanic should have been. This is an album that you can put in and listen to it all the way through without having to skip around. It's simply that good.
Sooo, go and get this album. Even if you're not a Horner fan, this album is worth having. Very, very highly recommended.

Thanks heaps PrinceCor004! I don't know if I can buy the CD. The MP3 album is definitely cheaper and I have a pretty good speaker system for my iPod, also I have enough credits to get it. Any particular tracks you'd recommend on it?
BTW I love this thread!

Quite welcome! Ah well, as long as you have a good speaker system it should give you the same experience.
Hmm.... track recommendations. Alright, here are the tracks I'd recommend getting if you just want the best of the album:
2. Singapore. Oriental music for the first minute or so and then the action kicks in with the India Trade company theme (first heard in PotC2). The track ends with Jacks theme as heard on track two of the first album.
3. At Wits End. A long track of various themes including the new main theme, Love theme and Davy Jones theme.
5. Up is Down. A fun action track with with a great ending!
7. The Brethren Court. A slightly more goofy track with the new theme for the pirates.
8. Parlay. A great homage to Ennio Morricone, namely "Man with a Harmonica" from Once Upon a Time in the West. Electric guitars play away at the main theme (for film 3) while the strings play an aggressive rhythm.
11,12, 13. All three last track. Together they equal EPIC.

Hope that helps!
Thanks!

LOST composer Michael Giacchino is behind two recent soundtracks that I really enjoy: UP (especially that 4-minute montage early in the movie) and last year's Star Trek reboot. Great theme song!
Right now I'm listening to another favorite selection, from Last of the Mohicans (1992), which combines the movie's main theme with Dougie MacLean's Celtic-flavored "The Gael." This piece plays over the climax of the film ("Promontory") and its themes can be heard elsewhere as well.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
I love the music in "Brideg To terabithia" and the music in "Apollo 13"!

Weeelllll, for graduation I received a $50 gift card for Amazon.com from some of our friends. So, I used the gift card to buy three soundtracks I've been wanting for awhile. The albums purchased are:
The Mission- Ennio Morricone
Jurassic Park- John Williams
Predator 2- Alan Silvestri
I've always loved the music to the first two JP movies and I've been familiar with the Predator scores for awhile, but I've only recently discovered Morricone. Anyway, I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of these albums.

Also, I've discovered the genius that was Jerry Goldsmith. For the longest time I didn't really care for his work, but recently I have found a ton of his scores that I really like. He's now my favorite composer at the moment....

Also, in film score news:
Howard Shore has scored the latest Twilight film, Eclipse, which will be releasing late this month. The score album is set for a release date of June 28.
To say I was shocked at this would be an understatement. Apparently the Twilight series has a big draw on top notch Hollywood people. Well, here's hopping we finally get a good score out of this series.... *crosses fingers*

Wow, I'm also kind of shocked about that, PC. However maybe this means it will be amazing? I mean, Howard Shore...come on. It's gotta be good, even if it is Eclipse.
"Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius, and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring." Marilyn Monroe
I'm hoping this means it will be amazing. The previous two scores by Carter Burwell and Alexandre Desplat have been bleh and meh, respectively.
I'm hoping that Shore will go for something along the lines of his work for David Cronanberg (SP?). I could definitely see an operatic horror score along the lines of The Fly working for Twilight. *hopes for a good album*
BTW, I'm in no way a fan of Twilight. I just keep up with who's doing the scores.

Michael Giacchino does a lot of soundtracks that are wonderful! (He also does House, MD)...which I just bought the soundtrack with my gift cert from redeeming my points at mypoints.com (I would totally recommend it if you ever buy anything online!)
The soundtrack includes two songs sung by Hugh Laurie: "You Can't Always Get What You Want" and "Minnie the Moocher." (Any Jeeves and Wooster fans will recognize Minnie the Moocher from the first episode of the series, although it has been updated).
I also would like to have the soundtrack from "The Princess and the Frog." Lots of catchy, jazzy tunes!
Love God, love people
The LWW Expanded Soundtrack is still my all time favorite. I listen to it almost everyday. Right now i want to get the soundtrack to Across The Universe. Those actors can sing especially Jim Sturgess. I melt everytime I hear him sing "Strawberry Fields" and "All you need is Love"
Long Live King Caspian & Queen Liliandil Forever!
Jill+Tirian! Let there be Jilrian!
I bought some of the songs from The Princess and the Frog just after seeing it. I love them very much! I often buy one or two tracks from the soundtrack of a film as I'm trying to stop always buying the whole CD. Sometimes I do enjoy the whole thing - LOTR, Cars, Star Trek, LWW being examples - but with others I just like having a little piece of it that reminds me of the whole film. I find credit songs can be quite good for that, however cheesy they may be!
My favourites at the moment are a few tracks from How to Train Your Dragon: See You Tomorrow, Test Drive and Sticks and Stones. They're awesome, especially because of the whole Scandinavian/Scottish crazy mix of music. I love it!
I find I don't have favourite composers because sometimes I like their music and sometimes I don't. I have really enjoyed Giacciono's work recently, though!
I have two words for you: John Williams. His music is the best. He has this knack for catching the adventure in the very scribbles of his music sheets. I'd see a movie for no other reason if he did the composing.
Most the soundtracks I love are all instrument (Narnia, POTC, LOTR, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Braveheart) I also love ones like The Lion King, Anastasia, The little Mermaid, Twilight(of course the score is much better)...
"And this marvel of all marvels, that he called me Beloved, me who am but as a dog-" -Emeth
Howard Shore did the Twilight score? aw.....that's too bad......
he did an awesome job with LOTR!
