Kalta79, good to have you on the Weather thread. :) :-o at that amount of snow. I have, at times, experienced similar huge snowfalls. Amazing, really. Everything shuts down and everyone is out helping everyone else shovel. And play. ;))

Glad to hear you've had clear skies finally, stargazer, after what sounds like very dreary weather. Sounds similar to yours around then, fantasia, blech.

Goodness, wagga, those temps are too much. #:-s Hope it cools down to more comfortable air for you soon.

We have had a lot of cloud cover lately, but with snow most days this week. :D Probably a total of 12" has come down. So pretty, and fresh every day. I bundle up when I walk at 6:30 a.m. Everything is hushed. Beautiful. Some days the features (like the side of the road) have been hard to distinguish, so careful treading is in order. ;))

One clear early morning (the peak of the Geminids!) I had the privilege of seeing a few bright meteors ... one especially long one. But no fireballs. And the Moon and Jupiter were close in the pre-dawn sky. Quite the sight, with the Moon's earth-shadow very, very distinct and sharp. Then that night on my walk, I hadn't checked for ISS passes before I left, but saw the vast arc of a bright one (-3.4 mag) around 5:30 pm. Sure enough, I looked online when I arrived home, and that's what it was. Lovely!

We have a bit of a warm-up coming on Monday and Tuesday, but with some snow, yet possibly a touch of freezing drizzle, then back to colder mid-week. Christmas Day looks to be partly cloudy, around -3C/26F, then -10C/14F at night. :)

For the first time that I remember, we have a chance for a white Christmas this year. A SLIGHT chance of snow is in the forecast for the 22nd and the 24th, with VERY cold temperatures for highs so the snow that MIGHT fall PROBABLY won't melt. ;))

I'd like a white Christmas, that would be fun. :D

Fantasia, I do hope you get your White Christmas. Here, "white Christmas" is a coconut bedecked bit of confection to keep us happy, and our jaws firmly locked too fast to sing the umpteenth chorus of "I'm dreaming of a White Christmas". :D All hard vanilla toffee with preserved fruit. Do enjoy that sort also, if you can get some.

Meanwhile yesterday and the day before were both at 44 degrees Celsius (about 110 Fahrenheit). I'd be delighted if from Sunday onwards for a couple of days, including Christmas Day, we just don't go down to Hades to frizzle and fry. ;)

Merry Christmas to all of you on NarniaWeb. I think I'll wear my new NarniaWeb T-shirt on the day. :)

I hope you can have a white Christmas, fantasia, even if it's just a covering, which is still so pretty.

:P wagga re the White Christmas song. Wow, such heat you're having, oh my.
But :D wearing your NWeb t-shirt on the 25th.

We are for certain having a white Christmas here. Snow just keeps on falling, and whilst this is not ideal for travelers, it sure is pretty to walk in and to look at as we're gathered 'round the meal table or Christmas tree.

The temps here are to be dropping to arctic air cold on Boxing Day. Which means the snow will be staying. :D

stargazer, how is the weather looking out west?

Stay safe, everyone, and a very lovely Christmas to all!

Hello again. Sorry about not bein more dependable at this.
We finally have a decent layer of snow on the ground here. While I am relieved to not have three feet of "heart attack" snow this inch last week, inch, and a half today is getting a little tiring.
I cannot complain too much about the temps, as they have been above average for months. But now that we have company coming ( timing is everything ) we are expecting to have below zero F for Christmas.

Jo, the weather here has been pretty seasonal the past week, I think (not being fully conversant with local patterns) - some cloudy wet days alternating with the occasional day of sunshine, with highs around 40F/4C and lows around freezing.

They're calling for up to an inch (25mm) of wet snow tomorrow, just enough to snarl up the city in time for Christmas. The sky is clear right now (midnight) so we'll see if that happens.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Hey Friend Wiggle! :) Here, too, our snow is light and fluffy, not that difficult heavy, wet stuff, which can look pretty, but is brutal to shovel. :-s Enjoy your Christmas with family and friends! :)

Ahh, you must miss the MN winter weather, 'gazer. However, glad you can be out there. Enjoy, 'though the days be above freezing and dreary. Wondering if that forecast snow will actually come.

I'm not sure why I neglected to mention this yesterday, but the trees were stunning, covered in snow crystals. There must have been a flash-freeze in the night, and what a sight. It was cold enough yesterday that little of it melted, leaving us with a wonderland all day long. I love that blue light that flows over the white landscape in midwinter!

This afternoon much more snow is anticipated (8"+), which makes traveling very tricky for driving. Our one son and his fiancée arrived early last evening through treacherous weather (freezing rain, snow)—the usual 7 hour drive took over 10! Thankful for safety. They saw 11 cars in ditches, but thankfully none appeared serious. Geoff had put their snow tires on last week, and is sure glad he did so.

Our two other 'kids' are coming today. :D And while my dad was supposed to drive here tomorrow morning, he has decided to instead make his way over early this afternoon, given the snowy forecast. We'll fondue (cheese and chocolate) this Christmas Eve as the snow is falling thick outside.

As mentioned above, Boxing Day and following is to turn very, very cold, not untypical for this time of year.

Happy Christmas Eve Day! :D

EDIT: Just back from my walk. -10C/14F. Very still. A beautiful dawn with grey clouds streaking across the sky full from the south to the east. Jupiter shining high in east. Love that sound of snow crunching beneath my feet. And the village is utterly hushed. I don't see snow clouds in the west yet, but will keep an (excited) 'weather' eye!

The snow arrived this afternoon, accumulating to about an inch now (9.15 pm local time), with flurries still ongoing. It made the roads rather slick, especially without the snow-removal equipment I'm accustomed to. There was still a lot of traffic on the roads when we went out this evening, but is likely to be gone in a few days.

I enjoyed your mention of Jupiter in the morning sky, Jo. I've seen it a few times of late since everyone else here is very much a morning person. Keep an eye out for dimmer Mars, now to its upper right, closing in day by day.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Yuletide was a chilly time here with zero F, or less. As we were hosting the fires were well stoked in the wig-wam. The in-laws enjoy a warm domicile. Added to this the offspring invited his roommate, and the fellows girlfriend ( with prior approval from the Mrs. and I ). Both are from South America. He has been here long enough to a climate, she just flew in. Yep. It was toasty
Been seeing Jupiter in the morning as well, and enjoying some great views of Orion. Just waiting for a warmer, yet clear night to take it all in.

Here comes the cold! I know everyone north of me will be colder, but our high tomorrow is 13F. We've even got some negative numbers in the forecast to ring in the New Year. Brrrr....

I've returned to the frozen north just in time for winter. It's below 0F (-17C) now and it only gets worse from there. ;)) Tomorrow's high will be -7F (-22C). Refreshing!

Just as it atarts to warm up for us. It should reach a sweltering 11 above by next Tuesday. Shorts, and teeshirt weather as the offspring has come to call it. If all goes well I should be able to hike a little with one of the siblings. Just got a couple coats of varnish on some canes, and will need to look for some more promising pieces. If the heat up continues I might just get out to do some hunting yet.
Happy New Year to All!

This is the time of year we ask "Why do we live here?" It's been a while since the temperature has risen above 0F/-17C. ;)) It may hit that mark today.

What exactly do you mean by "a sweltering 11 above by next Tuesday?" Does that mean 11 degrees Celsius? Or does it mean 11 degrees Fahrenheit? :- I can tell you about "sweltering", at the moment. It hasn't been too bad at 36 or thereabouts Celsius above zero but will be back up to 45 degrees Celsius on Sunday. 8-| OF/-17C sounds quite nice right now. B-) Oh and it is the first full moon of the month, with an eclipse, apparently, on the one at the end of the month.

He means 11F. Pretty toasty for this area in January. I can't imagine 45C; that's slightly below the all-time record high temperature for this state, recorded way back in 1917 (I believe I've encountered heat index values that great, but I'm not sure that's the same).

The January 31 total lunar eclipse is an early morning event for North America but most of Australia (except the far west) gets to see the whole event. (More details here. Scrolling down gives contact times in UT and a visibility map).

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
