Oh my, wagga, I hope those bees are not living in your home anymore, yikes. And happy Spring to you! :)

Thank you for your good wishes for Spring. So far it has been a distinctly cool spring, the temperatures having dropped to single digits (C) at night, and well below the magic 20C max. It has been a really icy wind that has sprung up, distinctly chilly, even inside, and we've had to go back to our winter woollens. Deep fried icecream weather indeed.

I think the bees belong to a neighbour who has been cultivating a few beehives, and we should really make a point of seeing him. I did manage to chase quite a few out, but they kept coming back inside and I'm afraid that a few of them died when we weren't around to get them to make their escape. Bees are really valuable and I don't want him to lose any because of anything I did. The air conditioner was put in when this building was new, but had to be replaced when the motor collapsed. However long we remain here we can't do without it, and neither can whoever lives here afterwards. But we couldn't afford to remove the old one and I'm afraid the bees might have made a new hive inside it, which would be a nuisance.

It sounds like autumn is delightful in the Northern Hemisphere so far. I hope it continues with lovely weather for a month or two for all of you, especially the farmers.

Already getting hot temperatures here in perth. I think it was 28 max yesterday, today was cooler. Though I have managed to sneeze so many times because of hayfever and people wearing ridiculously strong spray deodorants.

Today was another glorious autumn day, highs around 15C with changing colors, low humidity, and crystal blue skies...a great day to enjoy an evening campfire with friends. Alas, a few mosquitoes joined the festivities.

And the forecast is for more of the same for tomorrow's total lunar eclipse. :)

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

The weather right now is lovely. I want to go camping soooo badly but I'm intimidated taking an almost-toddler and almost-3-year-old.
Actually the days have been a touch warm for me because the sun is quite powerful and very hot, but in the shade it's nice. And the cooler nights have been awesome. Makes for much better sleeping weather.

Yesterday (Sunday) saw clear skies and near-record highs of 82F/28C. Clouds rolled in for the last half of the eclipse (though we could still see it in gaps in the clouds) and it rained this morning.

A big change is on the way: freeze warnings are up for the northern third of Minnesota and frost advisories for areas just south of that. The predicted low for the Twin Cities is around 45F/7C - great sleeping weather! Highs for the next week or so are expected to be very pleasant, 60-65F/15-18C, just right for enjoying fall colors, walks in the woods, bonfires, etc. :)

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Start 'em young, I'd say, fantasia, start 'em young. ;))

Always good to read the weather reports from around the world. Very cool! :) But I hope you get the bee situation sorted out, wagga. Hope your allergies don't hang around for too long, IlF!

Last weekend was comfortably warm for us, with cool nights, but, as some of you know, the clouds prevented us from seeing even the slightest part of the eclipse on Sunday night, boooo! However (ditto stargazer), with the clouds brought needed rain and while today is a bit humid (!) and tonight will be a warm-ish one for this time of the year (17C/62.6F), a welcome cold front is arriving tomorrow. Night time temperatures from now on will be in the mid-high single digits (Celsius), which is around the mid-40sF—beautiful for sleeping and walking and campfires (ditto 'gazer again ;))); daytime temps are expected in the mid-teensC/late 50s with no humidity whatsoever. Gorgeous autumn weather!

The trees beginning to blush with colour. The harvest is being reaped. And it's the most wonderful time of the year!

They haven't been too bad. I spent 5 days in Geraldton (midwest of WA) it is around 5-6 hours from Perth. It is 30 C there in October (which is spring). Also I will never take a 6 hour bus ride by myself again because I never wish to be squashed against a window again. I was left with half seat an half the foot room. Also the women was rather rude, constantly giving me odd looks, as though i was taking up her space. I think she had hopped for someone older to be next to her to talk to. I really want to go there in the summer. The summer in perth is hot enough, think they have way too many days above 40 C.

One day at 40C is too much for this polar bear. ;))

The past 10 days or so have had awesome weather: no rain, crystal clear blue skies to accent those changing colors on the trees, and nice temperatures around 60F/16C. The stalling effect of Hurricane Joachim on our weather has passed, so change is in the wind.

Sunday's high temperature may break the daily record of 84F/29C. That's more than 20F/11C over average. Whew! Mid-October in Minnesota with no frost in sight. Odd. ;))

Heavy rain fell overnight, with some areas reporting up to 2 inches (50mm). This is helpful as it allows trees and perennials to store up rain before going dormant for the next 5 months or so.

Those fall colors are running about 10 days behind average, for some reason. Normally we're at peak color now but there is still lots of green out there.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

We had almost perfect weather yesterday. 74F, sunny, a light breeze. We enjoyed the day by going to a pumpkin patch. :D

Today is supposed to be a random 90F, but then it's supposed to cool right back off again tomorrow.

The leaves are finally starting to turn here. :)

Sunday's heat did indeed break the record I mentioned in my last post, resulting in a plague of those Asian ladybeetles.

But heat can't last long this time of year. The very next day had winds up to 50 mph/80kph and a winchill just above freezing. ;))

Tomorrow should be a glorious fall day, perfect for a trip down to the Mississippi River bluff country for fresh apples, fall colors, and an evening fire and stargazing session.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Just had a freeze wrning here last night. Temps down to 28F. It was not windy, but the nip was defenitly in the air outside.
As stargazer pointed out we have been given some confusing signals temp-wise. Tomorrow is supposed to be in the lower 70's F
Looking about though we are in full fall mode. All but the most hardy of flowers are wilting away in the garden, and the trees are pretty much in peak of change. The sugar Maple outside the kitchen window is so bright yellow that it literally lights up the kitchen when the sun hits the leaves.

Our first frost of the season also came late Friday, Puddleglum. I was enjoying a fire with friends and there was frost on the grass before midnight. This frost came about 11 days later than average.

There are lots of pretty colors here but some of the best are right out the window. There's a huge maple right outside my bedroom window, and like your kitchen, there's a yellow-golden quality to the light in my room. Quite pretty.

The other night when the cold front came through (the same one that's helping Patricia dump loads of water onto the Gulf states), I stepped outside and smelled that cold metal smell that I associate with snow and Winter. Interesting because while it was chilly, it wasn't THAT cold. And then yesterday I was out walking around and it smelled like that dusty leaf smell that you get in the Fall when the leaves are dropping off the trees and decaying. I don't think I ever consciously realized how different seasons have different smells. When I think about it, Spring has a definite wet/muddy/warm smell. I can't really think of a distinct Summer smell, but eh, oh well. ;))

The remnants of Patricia brought a cool rain here today that is expected to continue throughout Wednesday. As the low pressure passes the wraparound cold will likely bring the season's first snow to much of southern Minnesota. Little accumulation is expected this early in the season but the winds could whip it around and limit visibility.

Interesting comments about the smells of the seasons, fantasia! I can't think of a distinctive summer smell either unless oppressive heat and humidity count. ;))

We have been experiencing some lovely Fall weather here lately. :) It's been quite chilly at night, and we've had some frost, but no hard freeze yet. But during the day it's been in the mid-60Fs/18C, and I'm sure not complaining about that. :D
