We have a forecast of 6-10 inches of snow tomorrow. We will see! ;)

It's snowing here, those light big fluffy flakes that are so pretty to watch. I'm not sure much accumulation is expected, but it might be enough to cover all that brown out there. Nothing like your part of the country, ramagut, or the Northeast, which has been hit with astounding amounts of snow in the last few weeks.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Glad you're getting some gazer!

Yes, we are getting the snow as predicted. They have increased the expected totals to 10-14"! There are several inches on the ground now and it's supposed to continue snowing through the night!

It really (finally) feels like winter!

I keep hearing of the snowfalls in the NorthEastern U.S. We got some a wek ago, but only enough to cover some of the brown. Snow fell a little bit ago, but like stargazer said it's light, and fluffy. Didn't even need to blow it off the windshield.
The fun is going to be on Wednesday. The news is talking single digit highs, with wind chills around -35F below.
Anyone for a polar Bear swim?

No thanks on the polar bear swim, but gazer may take you up on that offer! ;))

Final tally of yesterday's snow is 7". Most snow I've ever had to deal with! My dogs are little, so they can't even walk in it! This morning they even had a hard time jumping through it! Our forecast is for no snow today, but more on the way Wednesday and Thursday.

Anyone for a polar Bear swim?

Not at -35C/-31F :p which is what we had this past weekend ... and that's without the wind chill. Snow came on Saturday, adding to our foot-plus of the white stuff (nothing compared to the east coast, though!). Many of the banks along the roadside are taller than me (5'5"). Snowmobilers are out all over the fields and along the roadsides: such fun to see them whipping along. 'Though I, personally, prefer snowshoeing ... much quieter. ;)

Wow, ramagut, that's quite the dump. Nice! :D Enjoy and stay safe.

Oooh, sounds very pretty, stargazer and Puddleglum. :)

Sleet? Ugh, fantasia. :P And snow on top: quite the combination for very slippery conditions.

Today we rose to a 'balmy' -12C/10.4F, plus the usual wind chill. The snow still looks so pristine in many places and I love how the cold winter air actually appears blue in the early morning and dusk hours.

Arctic air hits again on Thursday, with flurries off and on for the next few days, but no significant accumulation.

Did someone call for a polar bear? Not sure I want to go swimming in those conditions, alas.

7 inches of snow is a good amount, ramagut, enough to play in without shutting everything down. We've only had a paltry 25 inches so far this season - Boston seems to get that much every other day or so. Amazing.

The next few nights will go below 0F, but nothing like what you've had, jo. I think it's only gotten down to -11F/-24F here, though much of northern Minnesota did not get above 0F/-17C all day today.

Icy roads are extending across much of the eastern US, perhaps into areas where drivers are less familiar with driving in it. Check out this video of a very close call between a car and a TV camera.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Considering we are *not* used to this much snow! pretty much everything was shut down all of Monday and early today. I'm not able to get my car out of the parking lot of my apartment complex, so I'm not sure what is or isn't open now. ;))

Whoa, yeah. :-o ;))

Isn't it kind of nice to have a few snow days, ramagut? Feels all cozy ... as long as there is no emergency!

Uh, that is totally not true. ;)) We woke up to an even deeper world of white this morning—so pretty! And, even though it was cold, everything clung to branches and bushes, almost like hoar frost. What a wonderland! So, that was a few more inches, then this afternoon, various snow squalls blew through, adding even more to the mix. B-)

That snow sounds so pretty, jo! We got a paltry inch or so overnight, just enough to cause traffic problems this weekend (along with the black ice from sub-zero F temps).

Much of the eastern US is shivering under cold weather, and good old Embarrass hit -41F/-40C yesterday morning (air temp, not wind chill).

A man in Wisconsin built a 22-foot tall snowman for his daughter. So the obvious question is: Do you want to build a snowman? ;))

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Did you all see this? ;))
http://www.witn.com/home/headlines/COOL ... 06901.html

A couple days ago I encountered an odd weather moment that was kind of a first for me. It was a sunny 45F (according to my car), and I was taking my kiddos for a drive to get them to nap. I backed out of the driveway and headed south. When I got to a highway, I turned west, and there in front of me was The Nothing from The Neverending Story. @-) I mean it looked like a springtime thunderstorm with heavy rain, but the color was slightly off. I drove into expecting rain... it wasn't rain. :P It was slushy sleet. The roadways had blowing ice pellets all over and the temp instantly dropped 10F. And then five minutes later, I drove out of it and it was sunny again. :)) When I turned around to come back home, I didn't catch up to it again, it was just a fast moving front with a little bit of a storm caught up in it. So bizarre.

It has remained cold here. We're expecting rain/freezing rain/overnight snow over the weekend, but I doubt we'll accumulate anything.

Fk, that is crazy! We had a weather guy on our local news roll down a vehicle window and the layer of ice stayed in the window frame!

Well, our lovely 8" of beautiful powdery snow has now turned into a wet mushy mess. It rained all day yesterday so some of it melted, some is still there and there is a lot of water. It's awful. It's cold enough so the top layer is kind of frozen so it's funny to watch the dogs try to walk through it. ;)) They were predicting that this mess would be icy today but it's not bad. I may make it to church today! Yay!

Cool picture, fantasia.

That's the problem with snow, ramagut; it usually is pretty messy when it finally melts. For me that's a hindrance to spring camping since setting up in the mud isn't all that fun. And then once the snow is gone the mosquitoes are here.

No mosquitoes now, though. Yesterday's high struggled to reach 0F (-18C). Our low this morning (-11F/-24C) ties the coldest reading for the winter so far but is nowhere near as cold as it can get.

Another landmark: for the first time this year, the sun will rise before 7 am here tomorrow.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

It is! And we keep on getting more. ;)) And LOL! at the giant snowman.

This winter sure has broken records here almost every week at some point (since later January for us) for record cold days or nights.

:-o at your link, fantasia. That is just way too cool! ;)) And what a weird weather experience you had, wow!

We had a weather guy on our local news roll down a vehicle window and the layer of ice stayed in the window frame!

That happened to me a couple of times in our old neighbourhood. So cool. And it was fun to break it too. ;)) But, wow, stay safe in that messy weather, ramagut!

Another landmark: for the first time this year, the sun will rise before 7 am here tomorrow.

Yes! Waking up now and seeing the daylight outside when dark was predominant for so long in those morning hours is almost rather startling. ;))

We are keeping our frigid temperatures for the week around here, whoa! It was near -40 (C and F) over the weekend at nights. Daytime temps with the windchill are hovering around -25C/-13F ... certainly no warmer. Today is especially arctic, with the wind whipping up to 60 kms/37 miles per hour. This is not the coldest we have had this winter, but, wow, that wind makes it feel so, so brrrrr! I have not been able to get out for my walks when it's this freezing. :p

More snow is here this afternoon; more snow is coming Sunday again. There has rarely been a morning go by that I haven't had to brush off the car to a lesser or greater extent. And everything (especially here in the country) is just so ... white! ;))

/edit/ So, it is so windy here this aft that the terrific amounts of snow falling are blowing parallel to the ground! I can hardly see across the street. Winter in Ontario! ;)) /end edit/

How's the weather in Australia lately, IlF and wagga?

So much snow all around us but none here. The ground is barely covered and we're still running over a foot short for the season. (While our highs still are way below freezing, the sun is getting high enough now that the snow can sublimate - evaporate directly from solid to water vapor without having to melt - so we're losing what little we have).

I've been watching coverage of snow in areas like Dallas. Rather amazing to think that areas about 1000 miles south of here have more snow than we do here in the frozen north. ;))
