We're getting our first real snow now--the first six inches. Heavy wet snow and all supposed to melt tomorrow with +7 degrees Celsius. The highway passes were rather nasty; we'd planned to go to town tomorrow, but it might have to be the truck.
Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away ... my days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle
The weather here is rather confused, I think. The high Saturday was 6F/-14C (the average high now is 30F/-1C). But they're talking a big thaw sometime next week - possibly up to 45F/7C. One model calls for temps around 50F/10C - but I think that would require melting what snow remains first.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Multiple afternoon storms here. Plenty of electricity, thunder and rain with blackouts every now and then. Weather hot and sultry when it isn't raining but the good side is that there are no bushfires for now.
We've been having an unusual-for-us weather pattern going on lately... lots and lots of heavy, dense fog. We get it often in the spring, but it's usually in the morning and clears once the sun comes up. But we've been getting rain and snow with an increase in temperature shortly thereafter and the fog has been happening in the late afternoon, evening, and overnight. And you can only see about 1/8-1/4 of a mile. Pretty crazy.
Been away for a bit. weather is about right for the season here, with temps in the mid 20sF. But forecasts are calling for upper 40s to possible 50 by Sunday. We might just have a 'Brown Christmas" this year by this rate.
Good to see you again, Puddleglum!
I think this is the longest time I have gone without posting in the Weather topic ... since August! There is a good excuse, though: we made a major move and the process of getting settled takes a good deal longer than we had thought.
(It's still ongoing, but gradually coming along.
)
But, to relate this to the weather, we have moved to one of the snowbelts in Ontario, which receives a lot of effect from Lake Huron. While we have had nothing like fell on Buffalo a few weeks ago, we did receive our share, which totaled around 12". So pretty (and nasty driving at times).
Then the melt came, and while we have had flurries since then, nothing has accumulated. However, tonight could change that, with an estimated 8" arriving. Still, another thaw is coming this weekend, and so is this winter predicted: storms, then melts, storms, then melts. We shall see ...
The sun was out today, but with the windchill, it was a cold one. We live in the countryside now, and walking out of our village, hitting the open farmers' fields where the wind whips across, it felt quite like Arctic air. Very invigorating, to say the least! The Shetland pony I visit on a farm when I walk was extremely frolic-y: the blustery wind seems to liven him up too.

Did you get your snow, jo?
The weather doesn't know what month it is here. The past 8 days have been overcast, even foggy, with temperatures far over normal (several days, including today, have set record highs around 50F/10C). No snow remains, and it's even raining right now. In Minnesota in December...inconceivable! It's much more like Seattle in December right now.
This may change over the next 24 hours, with the rain changing over to snow and ice and seasonal temps the next 10 days (highs around 24F/-4C). So we have a small chance of a white Christmas.
Speaking of which, here are the maps showing probabilities of a white Christmas for the US and Canada.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Beat the snow home
Was raining earlier, and gradually cooled to the point where we have about an inch, maybe two in some spots.
So far the forecast says it will be over by morning.
Our weather is so confused. Fully into astronomical winter now, just before Christmas, and it rained all day. Inconceivable! This morning's low (37F/3C) is way beyond any average for this time of year. Our snow is gone but there is a chance this rain will change over to snow during the night and give us a slight chance of a white Christmas.
Never fear, it will cool down by the weekend with temps approaching 0F/-17C at night.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Glad you beat the snow home, Puddle!
Our weather is all befuddled too. Inconceivable, indeed, 'gazer. From around 12" of snow within a few days in November to melting to flurries to a gentle white covering on the ground to more melting to copious amounts of rain ... it's a strange winter thus far.
Today we even have the chance of thunderstorms as the temperature climbs to 11C/51.8F!
And very windy tonight, with gusts up to 55 mph. Mixed precipitation overnight and into tomorrow, Christmas day, then warming up again on Friday and Saturday, but dropping quite severely, apparently on Sunday and on into next week.
So, aside from some flurries tomorrow, there won't exactly be a white Christmas here. Glad there was last year ... and there's always next year.
A blessed Christmas to all, no matter what the weather.

Wow, that's quite warm, jo! We're only hovering around 3C or so.
No snow from that last storm; it is too warm. It turns out we last had a brown Christmas in 2011, not that long ago at all...but right on target with our statistical chance of 75%. (Somehow I thought it would be higher. You don't have to go very far north of here to hit that 90% mark).
It's been cloudy all month, hence the warmth. But the sun - and the cold - may make a brief appearance this weekend, with temps now expected to fall to about -8F/-22C overnight.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Getting the same in this part of the "North Star State" stargazer.
We expect mid-30'sF tomorrow, but it is supposed to plummet after the weekend, with single didgits by Monday. We also got a dusting, and I was honestly expecting it to hang around, at least in the shade. But it was just warm enough to melt it off.
Looks like brown Christmas.
Speaking of which, A Merry Christmas to all my fellow Narnians out there
Eat with friends, and kin. Sing songs, and tell tales. As for myself, I might enjoy some libation from a giant's thimble, and sound silly for an evening
We'd be getting mid 30's C here, but it is more like a steam bath at the moment. And the afternoon thunderstorms which started in November continued on with a week or so's break before Christmas. Back to thunderstorms and an end to the Boxing Day picnic we planned. Murphy's law rules ok. Weather is similar to what it was in 1990-1991.
EDIT: I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas this year, and all the best for the New Year. We did have the Boxing Day picnic after all, so patchy is the weather. And some farmers who haven't had rain for years, got some substantial rainfall as a very welcome present, this Christmas, saving them from ruin.
That rain sounds welcome, wagga; the steam bath, not so much I imagine.
No worries of a steam bath here anytime soon, unless it's indoors. Wind chill advisories are posted for tonight, meaning wind chills may approach -40F/C. (And it was just a few days ago we were lamenting the relative heat and lack of snow). Air temperatures may get down to -9F/-23C in the city and substantially colder north of here (where temps will not rise above 0F/-17C at all today). Ah, this is winter!
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
^That is it I am packing my bags. The last two days I have been able to see heat coming off the pavement during the middle of the day. It is also a humid heat. 42 C or 108F it was at maximum. I was inside at work enjoying the aircon. It is meant to drop to 28C max tomorrow(thank goodness).
