That means we're six weeks from the start of meteorological winter. But right now the weather continues an amazing run of spectacular autumn days - though today was almost summer-like with a high of 66F/19C (definitely above average). Thursday promises a run at 70F/21C before more seasonal weather arrives just in time for the weekend. I definitely see some more campfires in the near future, before the snow flies.
Fall colors are spectacular right now though some trees have lost their leaves. It's actually coming a bit late this year.

It sounds really beautiful in October where you are, with those multicoloured trees stargazer, and do enjoy the milder weather whilst you can. It is bound to change soon.
October can also be very beautiful here, and in the nearby Blue Mountains. Henry Kendall, a well-known poet, who wrote about spring in Australia, said this about October:
October, the maiden of bright yellow tresses,
Loiters for love in these cool wildernesses;
Loiters, knee-deep, in the grasses, to listen,
Where dripping rocks gleam and the leafy pools glisten:
Then is the time when the water-moons splendid
Break with their gold, and are scattered or blended
Over the creeks, till the woodlands have warning
Of songs of the bell-bird and wings of the Morning.
Yesterday's storms did wreak a lot of havoc. Flash flooding, trees, even power poles, uprooted or destroyed, cars flattened or swept away, and many homes without electricity. A couple of trains were marooned in floodwaters, and some of the stations were flooded as well.
@Wagga just saw this as I read you post. Basically a representation on Australia's weather.
Around this time we have what I like to call bouncing whether going from hot to nice between days. Yesterday it was 35 and today it was around 26.
Rather enjoyable day today. That is of course after I was able to get off work. But I was able to enjoy it while mowing the lawn, which is still work, but outside, and with fresher air.
Any-a-how. It was mid-to-lower 70sF today, with only a slight breeze. the weather folks are calling for about ten degrees cooler tomorrow. So I can enjoy cutting down a tree. More work, I know
The hope is that there will be plenty of clear skies as well for some quality time around the fire ring before it starts to get too cold.
I don't have a garden thank goodness(I live on the second floor of flats). I would keep putting it off if I did and I would have neighbours complaining about it. Me cutting down a tree is something I hope no one ever see's. It would be the most awkward thing someone could ever see.
I know I'm a person who prefers warmer weather, but it is way too hot out there today. It's October and it's pushing 90F?!?!? C'mon! Where's the Fall weather? *looks at the forecast* Looks like it's supposed to cool off by Tuesday.
That's an interesting pair of pictures, IlF. That snow is a preview of what is just around the corner here...
But the past week or so has been awesome here, weather-wise. Highs around 65F/18C, crisp, clear days and cool nights. As you might imagine there have been a few bonfires on recent nights.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
After a week (or longer?) of unseasonably warm temperatures, we're coming up on Halloween. We were looking forward to taking our kiddos trick or treating, but what is the weather for Halloween evening? Mid 40Fs with a low of 29F. My kiddos' costumes are shorts and t-shirts. So now I need to come up with plan B. In the future, I'll try to have two costumes ready to go; one for hot weather and one for cold.
Sounds like a good idea for those costumes, fantasia.
It's a good idea here too today. Woke up this morning to a rather brisk 26F/-3C and a wind chill of 17F/-8C. Temperatures are expected to be around freezing by trick-or-treat time this evening.
That's a bit cooler than recently; much of the last 2 weeks were significantly warmer than usual. This is closer to normal. Still, it's a little more pleasant than the Halloween many older people (like me ) remember around here, the 1991 blizzard that dumped 3 feet of snow and set records a lot of people hope continue to stand for a while.

I'm glad to hear it is properly cold up in Northern Climes. Although the weather has been sort of middling, the last few days of heat have been horrible. 37C yesterday and 35 expected today - if we are lucky.
Out, and about with the Mrs. this evening. Must say it was ok weather-wise. A bit on the cool side, with temps in the mid 40sF, and a bit of a breeze. Temps are dropping by the day with highs expected to only reach the mid 20s next week.
Northern Minnesota actually had a dusting of snow accumulation the other day, and there stands a chance of some rain, possibly turning to snow tomorrow evening.
Worm gloves; check.
Heavy coat; check.
Stocking cap; check.
Changing oil on snowblower; working on it.
I don't know about you Northerners, but this will likely be the last weekend I'm gonna want to do anything outdoors for a while (Hoping to winterize my garden...). This weekend should be in the 50Fs and 60Fs (depending on the day) but Monday is when the cold winter air hits here and I'm not sure we'll recover. Highs in the upper 30Fs and 40Fs with hard freezes overnight.
Wow, it's been a while since I've been in here.
Rained all day yesterday and this afternoon it was raining again, even hailing some!
Currently, the temperature is 41F with lows in the thirties tonight I guess.
I keep seeing a bunch of Adirondack pictures in my facebook feed with layers of snow on the trees It's really getting rid of any patience I had left for winter to arrive... I'm so excited!

Did someone mention winter?
To quote local meteorologists, "confidence is improving" that we're in the bullseye for the season's first snowstorm, due to hit just in time for Monday morning's rush hour with 6 inches (150mm) or more.
The first snow of the season can be a wonderful, beautiful thing - unless you have to drive. Then the roads are filled with lots of people, some of whom have forgotten how to drive in snow over the summer.
Temperatures may approach 0F /-17C once this storm passes.
This is a bit earlier than average (first one-inch snowfall comes November 18 on average).
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Tomorrow's high: 70F. Tuesday's high: 39F. The rest of the week's highs: low to mid-30Fs. This anti-polar bear is not ready for that dramatic drop in temperature. *knows she is very much in the minority in this thread*
