We actually had some Not-so-bad weather here this past weekend for Independence Day. A bit humid yet, but enough of a breeze to hang out laundry, and get at least one load dry before it started to turn dark.
Having some rumblers soaking part of the state as I sit here. there was a warning for western Wisconsin about a possible funnel cloud, but nothing since.
Was planning on mowing when I got home from work, but by the time I put my stuff aside, and stepped back out it was raining. ( AW SHUCKS :(( )
Ah Well. Looks like it will be better tomorrow.

I can say it was pouring today. I had to do my washing too. The laundrette requires me to go out in the open so I had to rush across to put my clothes in the washer, rush back to put them in the dryer, than try to avoid getting my freshly clean clothes wet on the way back.

There you go. Weather right on cue. Did you manage to get your laundry done? We have a clothes horse to finish them off if necessary. The rain came down this evening just as we got home. Temperatures of 0 degrees C this morning and 21C at lunch time. But tomorrow it will be rainy, freezing cold with temperatures as low as 9C max and expected snow on the summits of the Blue Mountains, not too far away.

Ha yes I did but I used the dryer (didn't even attempt pegging them out).

I guess there have been some rather crazy storms in North America that I haven't heard about. I have some in-laws in the New Brunswick, Canada area, and they were without power for four days because of the sustained, straight line 55mph winds that lasted for at least an hour. :-o That's insane. I mean we get those kinds of gusts here in Kansas (up to 75mph isn't unheard of), and that's why our trees look all broken and ugly like they do. :)) But the wind does NOT last that long. Can't imagine.

We are still having a very mild July. We hit 98F/36C yesterday, which is certainly toasty, but we're usually well into the 100F + by now, for several days. It cooled off again today. I think this weekend is supposed to be back up into the mid to upper 90Fs again, but then next week we're supposed to be back down into the 80Fs. So unusual for this location and this time of year. Not complaining though. :D

It's getting down into the 50's overnight for the next two nights. It's nights like this where I wish that I didn't have an air conditioner in my windows to sleep in the fresh air. . . but then we'll get evening temps in the seventies later in the week, and I'll be so thankful for that little AC ;))

It's definitely been a "funky" summer :-??

That double tornado was simply :-o !!! What a photo.

Happy belated solstice ... a few weeks ago already! ;)) I am always glad when this day has come and gone because it means we're headed the right way (towards autumn) now, lol. Although there is not a noticeable difference in the days' length in July, but come August there sure is, as those lengthening shadows start to arrive sooner in the early evening.

Goodness, fantasia, that is a long time to be without power (in eastern Canada)!

It's definitely been a "funky" summer

Definitely. If it has to be summer, it's not been a bad one, at least around here. Sure, some days that are nassssstily humid, but then a relief break comes ... unusual for July in southern Ontario. Yesterday and today, for example, were in the low 70s with almost a hint of fall crispness in the air at night. Beautiful temps for sleeping (early 50s). On Saturday more muggy (mugly ;))) weather arrives, but following the same pattern, it should last for 2-3 days, then much more pleasant temperatures follow. Our Julys here can have 10-14 days, easily, of temperatures over 100F (with the heat index), but this summer is proving quite different, yay! Plus we have had a really nice mixture of sun and rain. Again, July is often extremely dry for weeks on end, but not this year. :D

Oh what lovely weather to sit inside with the heater on watching doctor who. It is 8pm now and I am not moving to at least 10pm. I read a news story recently though they have been saying it for years. Winters are getting colder and summers hotter due to climate change. Which means basically shorter spring/autumn which I can easily notice.

Winters are getting colder and summers hotter due to climate change.

Then the powers-that-be have not lived through our recent very snowy, cold Ontario winter, nor experienced this (overall) quite pleasant summer this year. ;))

Today is rather lovely (for summer) with a lake breeze and in the low 70s. Yes, humidity is arriving later tomorrow, but only staying through Monday, then back to unseasonably cool temperatures again. I realize I mentioned this in my post above, but I am just so thrilled that July is passing and we have not yet had a long stretch of terribly dry, mugly-hot weather! Woohoo!

Tonight's national news broadcast on NBC pointed out (perhaps slightly tongue-in-cheek) an upcoming summer version of last winter's polar vortex. Statistically we're coming up on the warmest time of year here, with the average high around 84F/29C. But highs for a few days next week will be significantly cooler (yay!!), struggling to reach 60F/16C.

As cool as last winter was, there were much colder winters here in the mid-to-late 70s, mid-1980s, and 1995-96. And we had a lot of snow last winter but did not reach the current record holder of snowfall, 1983-84.

Let's see...65 days until the start of the possible snow season here. :)

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

This past winter was certainly not our coldest winter here, but we did have a winter which isn't always the case. ;))

However, this upcoming polar vortex... I am wondering if we will set records where I live, in addition to the entire midwest. Our projected highs for Tuesday and Wednesday are 77F and 76F (25C)....in the middle of July. That's unheard of. It's not uncommon to be pushing 110F (43C) right now.

I'm not complaining if we don't have a hot summer at all, but I will be curious to see if we hit those temps this year.

This past winter was not our coldest either, but it sure harkened back to my winters as a child—cold, long, snowy. And this past season was a huge step up from the more 'wimpy' winter weather of recent years. ;))

Interesting about your lower temperatures this summer, as well, fantasia. It is a nice relief, to be sure.

Statistically we're coming up on the warmest time of year here, with the average high around 84F/29C. But highs for a few days next week will be significantly cooler (yay!!), struggling to reach 60F/16C.

Isn't that something, eh?! B-)

Today we have a stormy one: rain, thunderstorms = happy! Although it is a bit humid, but that will change for the better in the next day or so. Then the rest of this week is more akin to weather in May, meaning no humidity, temperatures in the high 60s/low 70s during the day; low-mid 50s at night. :D I had a thought last night, though: since spring was late, does that mean true summer weather will be delayed until August. The long outlook does not portend this, and I'm hoping that will be true.

I think all of you have sent your heat our way. Our thermometers are reading 42C (*goes off to do quick little calculation* 107F) and not a cloud in sight. Considering that we live very near the edge of a desert, that's not surprising. Whatever the case, we are off to the river to try to cool off so we can sleep tonight. It is still cold, at least.

Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away ... my days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle

I'm definitely enjoying some free air conditioning right now, as temperatures sink to about 50F/10C overnight before a return to heat and humidity this weekend.

Yesterday (July 14), the Twin Cities set a new record "cold high" for the date of 65F/18C - nearly 20F/11C below average. A trivia note is that July 14 also saw the all-time high temperature for the area (108F/42C in 1936).

Monday night's Home Run Derby at Target Field in downtown Minneapolis was delayed by rain, but the fans were treated to the sight of a double rainbow over the stadium and skyline. Tuesday night's weather for the All-Star Game itself was awesome (partly cloudy and around 68F/20C).

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

stargazer, I read the start of your last paragraph as " Home run across the field in the down pour" which seems like a regular winters day for me. I am forever being caught out in the rain. Whether it be on a walk to the bus stop, waiting at the bus stop, walking to and from the shops, walking to and from uni or going to put something in the recycling bin. Rain always comes at the worst of times.

We've been enjoying some really remarkable July weather where I live in North Carolina. From what I can tell, we've only had a couple of days that got up into the mid-90s so far this month, and we've frequently been seeing high 70s/low 80s. I just hope this mild weather trend continues into August! It's been lovely.

We also had a big storm come through a few days ago... usually the part of the storm with the electricity will blow through pretty quickly, but we had lots of thunder and lightning off and on for several hours. Of course it would be a day when I'm supposed to be catching up on housework like washing dishes. :P
