I don't know about the rest of the USA but our June thus far has been much cooler than usual and really wet. We're actually expecting some flooding tonight with the next storm system moving through. I'm ok at my house but we're watching the farm where my in-laws live pretty closely. I don't like flooding but I'm very thankful for the rain.
That's a lot of water at once, fantasia!
Our weather sounds a lot like yours, though we have had some days with above average temperatures. It's been quite wet, however, with more rain coming this weekend, so everything is very lush and green. (Now if we could only get out to enjoy it without 8 trillion mosquitoes crashing the party. )
Yesterday was fairly hot and humid for early June, whereas today is a lot cooler - lows this morning were around 45F/7C. So refreshing!
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Yes, re: your 2nd post above, stargazer, the relief came our way and so did the humidity from yesterday, which we have today. But, as is the weather pattern, your refreshing air is making its way here tomorrow after possible thunderstorms tonight. The weekend should be lovely (for summer) with no humidity and comfy temperatures. Which means we shall be eating out-of-doors on Father's Day. Probably rain arrives Monday again.
fantasia, much of our spring this year has been cool and quite wet. Many people are complaining ... but not me—no way, no how. The vegetation is so beautiful! And the air on most days has been refreshing, especially down by the lake here. Plus, after having finally finished both my floral and vegetable gardens, the precipitation is very much appreciated.

johobbit. Eating out-of-doors sounds almost too good to be true.
Mind you I would enjoy such a thing immensly, but due to the winged party crashers mentioned by stargazer I must first spray myself down in deet before thinking of venturing out.
Tried yesterday, as it was actually quite pleasant weather-wise, to do some yard work. high was in the lower 60's F, with some clouds. There was also a fair breeze that I foolishly thought would keep the airborn vampires at bay. Silly me. I don't know if I felt lighter because they had actually drained so much blood from me I lost weight, or they were trying to carry me off.
Anyhow, back on topic.
We are expecting some more rain tonight, and into tomorrow, with a chance of up to two, and a half more inches. It sounds like it will be a nice slow rain so flood warnings this time, yet.
I must say that the one constant plus has been the almost total lack of high humidity days thus far. there have been a couple, but only a handfull.
Stargazer it is odd that we had lows on 7/45 today which for us west Australians is rather cool, all right my feet a frozen, though considering I have as quoted by one of my friends " The boniest/thinnest hands and feet in history"(this occurred at school when my feet were soaked from the rain and I had to take my shoes off to dry them in the library at the heater). I have no adipose tissue for blood supply.
Anyway to get to the point. It is odd it is the start of winter here and the end of summer there and we are getting similar temperatures.
Actually we're about to start summer here. Our seasons are the exact opposite of those Down Under.
And it just keeps on raining. The ground is saturated and farm fields in southern Minnesota are under water, but huge storms are bringing more torrential rains just south of here. Hurricane-force winds (up to 85 miles per hour/135 km/hr) are blowing trees over. Baseball-sized hail and a double tornado were also reported in northeast Nebraska.
We camped this weekend but returned early due to all the rain and resulting standing water in the campsite. Saturday evening featured a spectacular lightning show which I was glad to watch from a house rather than from a tent.
Right now, it's just raining, with the risk of severe weather dwindling as we move into the night. Tomorrow is expected to be hot and humid again, fueling another round of possible severe weather.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
sorry I did mean the start of summer.Ha
It looks as though it could pour any second here. There is no blue in the sky what so ever. Covered with grey clouds. When we first moved over west I was 10 and my sister 12 we got stuck out in a big storm and we hardly knew the area. I remember getting under a park cover area(which with the wind wasn't much help) and under a picnic table. My mum was too busy with little siblings to remember that we were out. Lets just say we look liked drowned rats when we returned.
Baseball-sized hail and a double tornado were also reported in northeast Nebraska.
That double tornado was insane.
I've seen double tornadoes before, but they've always being wiry little things, not huge monsters like this.
getting much the same here stargazer. 3 1/2 inches this weekend, and it's starting to flow from the lawn into the road again.
Bummer about leaving camping early. Hate it when that happens.
Supposed to be mid-to upper 80's tomorrow, with high humidity. I guess it's a good thing the basement of the Wig-wam is cooler in the simmer.
fantasia_kitty. Those are impressive for double tornados. Just how big were they?
Flooding reports are coming in from southern Minnesota, including the small town where I grew up. One station is reporting 11.7 inches (297mm) of rain in the last 48 hours. That's almost 6 months of rain in two days - on top of an already wet spring.
Interstate 90 was closed for a time because high water made it impassable.
Now if there was just a way to send some of this surplus down to those areas that really need it...
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
The rain just keeps coming...southern suburbs reported close to 7 inches (180mm) in just 6 hours overnight. Some freeways and roads are flooded, and people in low-lying areas are sandbagging, trying to keep the rising waters out.
This is the wettest January-June period on record here, with 25.05 inches (645mm) of precipitation so far. On average we get about 30 inches (760mm) in a whole year. More heavy rain and flooding is expected tonight.
Firefighters in a southern suburb had to fight 3 house fires at once overnight, when a lightning bolt hit a tree, went into the roots, and lit a gas line on fire. Rather bizarre accident. No one was injured.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
And here we go again!
Just got home, and will be shutting this thing down in case of lightning here.
There is another row of storms blowing up on the radar as I type.
Now I'm not one to be on the negative side of things, but I am waiting to see a row of animals heading down Main Street, two-by-two, any time now.
Happy solstice! The sun stood directly above the Tropic of Cancer today at 1151 UTC, marking the longest day in the Northern Hemisphere and the shortest Down Under. The sun begins its 6 month journey southward.
This marks the beginning of astronomical summer or winter respectively. And in these parts it feels like early summer, with the sun shining in a bright blue sky (a sight all too rare the past week or so!).
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
One of those "Not-so-bad" days today. Cooler, with enough of a mist in the air to cause it to be chilly. the temps started out in the lower 50's F, and I don't think got above the mid 70's. A slight breeze also helped, though it felt like it wanted to rain all day I felt nary a drop.
Planning on attending a Rendezvous this weekend, so guess what? Thunder is in the forecast
Much like the rest of the Midwest and Northeast, we've gotten a lot of rain these past few days. Its made it rather humid here, which is never fun. Thankfully, the temps are staying in the mid-70's - low-80's.
I'm already ready for it to be fall. . .
