The trees have exploded into their greens of spring hereabouts. It is rather pretty, and nice to see green again after a rather long winter.

But what a difference a year makes, as our local TV weather people have said today. A year ago today, we roasted under temperatures near or above 100F/38C (I commented on it earlier in this thread).

This morning we woke up to widespread frost, with temperatures approaching the freezing mark even in the Twin Cities. This is also expected to happen tonight. It feels more like autumn out there than spring, which actually is fine with me. ;))

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Had a little exitment today with a storm literally blowing up overhead. Had to unplug the computer for a bit with the light show, but that lasted only a couple hours. A wonder that there were no warnings given.
I have not checked the rain gauge, but I don't doubt we had three, to four inches in an hour the way it was pouring off the roof. I just hope all my grass seed was not washed away.

It is very drizzly today not at all like Perth. It somewhat resembles Melbourne. I have always had a love-hate relationship with such weather. I love looking at the gloomy look outside but when you have to venture out and walk in it for 20 minuets it isn't the best.

IlF, It looks like Perth gets something like late autumn. Strangely we have been having the hottest, mildest and sunniest May records in Sydney weather records.

I hear in UK it is quite warm. Maximum temperatures which in our terms are something like 27 or 28 degrees Celsius. Winter is only a few days away, and I'm still wearing short sleeves with only a light cardigan for early morning & late evening chills. We reached 27 and 28 degrees Celsius yesterday and today. Sounds like current London weather, which is weird.

The daytime temperature is between 60 and 70F, which is fine ... although not as nice as those crisp autumn temps, imho.

What crisp, autumn temperatures? Winter is supposed to start next Sunday and we are having temperatures that would be delightful in mid summer. People are still going swimming and wearing light summer clothes. The birds sing as if it was Spring. Daytime temperatures are 24C up to 28C, ie, 75 to 83F

*feels for those who are struggling with seasonal allergies*

Spring rains have been abundant this season. Last week at night the temp was still going down to near freezing, but yesterday and today have turned very, very humid. Nasty stuff. :p Thankfully this is short-lived, and tomorrow, following, should be more pleasant, with actually little rain in the forecast. We are expecting thunderstorms later today, which will break this humidity, yay!

@GlimGlum, we are still getting temperatures sometimes as high as 31 degrees C down under during the day. Though sometimes the evenings can get cool enough for a light cardigan. Your summer looks like it might be a bit too hot.

I think this summer is definitely going to be, wagga.

Thunderstorms for Canada, eh LOTS? Sounds better than hot and dry like here.

We've had some wild weather this month. High winds for 3 days in a row a couple of weeks ago. I had to take alternate routes to work as certain sections of roads were closed off due to dust and dirt clouds. The we had mild temperatures (around 75F/24C) and now we are up to 90F/32C to 95F/35C this week.

Looks to be a long hot and dry summer for Southern California. The recent fires have been to the south of where I live so not much impact here. But that could change over the summer. :-o

Looks like the weather cannot be really predicted accuratly no matter where on this round globe you are.
Dealing with the humidity build up for another round of storms I see on the radar as I type this. Meanwhile, the sump pump for the house is still running to get ride of the ground water running from spring thaw. A real downside for fish around here is how the late weather has effected there spawning cycles. We just had Bass fishing season open last weekend. the Mrs., and I went out as per usual, and I should have known things were amiss when I saw sandy "nests" along the shoreline. I thought that they might be leftovers from laying, but when we cleaned the fish we were shocked to find one still carrying eggs. Needless to say we won't be out again for a few weeks to be sure that will not happen again.

At this time of year Perth is generally has a low of around 10 and a high of 21ish. It is a nice temperature. Though very windy this time of year.

Those sound like great temps, IlF - for summer! :)

Our possible snow season comes to an end today, only a few weeks before the summer solstice and with it, the return to shorter days. Summer is on its way and the planting can begin!

Here comes the heat too. Nothing for it except for this old polar bear to begin counting the days till snow season begins again (mid-September). ;))

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

;)) Gazer. I am quite happy to wave farewell to snow for a while. Bring on summer! :D

The past week or so was glorious. We had several days of perfect thunderstorms and rain... FINALLY! Lots of flashes of lightning and rumbles of thunder, complete with downpours that brought a nice amount of wetness. :D We even had this little freak storm pop up yesterday afternoon. Now that one I was not ready for and had to run out in the rain to gather up all of my son's toys that had been left on the patio. The mower and grill just had to get wet. :P
We're expecting some pop up storms for the rest of the week here in Kansas, and we still could use more rain, so I'm hoping we continue to get a nice amount.

Yep! It actually cooled down yesterday. 7C in the morning to 21C by lunchtime. Winter is arriving, but a rather dry one. IlF's rain isn't getting through to here. And we are told we have a 70% chance of getting an El Nino this winter. In other words it really is El Nino, but hasn't quite arrived yet. Watch out for Peru/Chile getting a good rainfall this winter.

Wow, Glimmie, some of that sounds like challenging weather. How are those fires doing now, btw?

*dittos 'gazer* IlF and wagga, if only those were our temperatures ... in summer. ;)) Very manageable.

Here comes the heat too. Nothing for it except for this old polar bear to begin counting the days till snow season begins again (mid-September). ;))

Yep. Yep. Yep. ;))

Glad you're getting some rain, fantasia! May more wend its way to you.

So, we have a heat wave for two days now. Tomorrow is supposed to be just plain nasty. But thunderstorms are in the forecast, as well, ushering in cooler temperatures for the rest of the week, yay! I have not begun to plant my gardens, so this rain better come tomorrow, as the earth is way too hard and dry now. :p

Perhaps I should ship some of our moisture your way my dear hobbit.
Finished mowing the front marsh, I mean lawn, after work. Some places are literally like walking on a sponge. The water is actually running so fast out of the sump, and the ground is so saturated, that it is flowing over the sidewalk into the boulavard.
The neighbors pond in their yard has reappeared, much to the delight of the ducks in the neighborhood.
Thankfully the wind has been steady all day, keeping the humidity low, and tolerable. It also was too much for the mosquitos, thankfully. Though they made a game try at me when I went around the lee side of the house.

Thanks, Puddleglum. Actually, prior to the end of last week, we had rains upon rains upon rains, so deep down, the soil is probably still soaked, but it's on the surface that it's a challenge to dig to plant. :p And looking out the window (and smelling that delicious scent), we had a good rain last night, yay!

"the front marsh" heeheehee

Silly, annoying mosquitoes. :-q

Today's going to be a brutal humid one (as I mentioned in my last post), so, keep breathing, Jo, keep breathing, and we'll make it through. I am on the tips of my furrty toes waiting for the much cooler weather coming tonight!

Your weather sounds a lot like ours, jo. The past week has been quite humid - not by Southern US or even local summer standards, but much more than we've been used to this season so far - with dew points above 65F/18C. But refreshing north winds blew in much dryer air last night, and it was great being able to sleep without the air conditioning on. Our current dew point is 50F/10C - so the air has just over half the moisture in it compared to yesterday.

It's coming your way jo!

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
