Yesterday was our first toasty day this year. It almost hit 90F. It was pretty warm. Tonight there's a chance for snow. And tomorrow night there's a chance for a hard freeze. So I will be covering lots of stuff today.
It goes from 90F to snow with in just 2 days? wow!.
After the first warm weekend of the year I woke out this morning and their was 2 inches of show
I am back home for the the week(about 2 hours away by car from perth) and that two ours oftens results in a 2c(sometimes more) difference in temperature. The week is going to have stable temperature ranges with lows of around 10C(50F) and highs of around 24c(75f) which equals nice weather and finally what it should be for autumn.
Those temperatures sound nice, IlF - I'd like summer to be that way too.
Wide temperature swings are common this time of year around here. It's snowing right now (quite heavily just northwest of here) but they're talking about 80sF (about 28C) by early next week.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
What you might get in these extreme swings of temperature is deep-fried ice-cream days, where the batter outside is still quite warm but the chilly ice-cream centre still cools things down somewhat.
Any time it is snowing down south, even if it is warm here, the wind from the same direction will keep temperatures from becoming too noticeably hot.
Okay, everyone, I'd like to lead us all in a chorus of that old familiar tune, "I'm Dreaming of a White Easter."
No? I don't blame you.
Areas north of here were reporting near white-out conditions and up to 10 inches (254mm) of snow by early evening. It's been snowing here most of the day and I'd estimate we've received 6-8 inches (155-200mm) of new snow. It's blowing around and it looks more like January out there than mid-April.
I might have put the shovel away prematurely.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Australians may dream of a white Easter but they are never going to get it. Closet thing is hail.
We often have a white Easter when it comes in March, but a lot of snow past mid-April is a little unusual.
Reports are 11 inches (280mm) here, 19 inches (480mm) about an hour north of here, but only 0.3 inches (8mm) at the airport, about 40 minutes south of here. Alas, that tiny amount is what will go down in the record books.
I'm putting off digging out my car; the sun will do some of the work if it ever comes out and warms things up.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Not a lot of posting in this thread as of late. I guess the weather isn't terribly dramatic. Well it's been downright gorgeous here. With the exception of the annoyingly windy days, the temps have been perfect (mid 70Fs).
We are lacking in spring thunderstorms though. They've been popping up here and there and so we've been getting a few showers, but nothing like what we typically get in Kansas in the spring. Tomorrow night sounds promising though, as does this weekend, so we'll see if we can get some good precipitation.
I just moved to Washington State. We've been getting off and on sunshine for three days so far.

At last we are getting some rain! It has been a warm, dry spring, which has been lovely. However, we've already had two grass fires within sight of our house - not a promising start to the season at all.
I did laugh - one news source described the first as a "forest fire." Though it did take off up the mountain, it was not anywhere near the treeline. At worst, it might have been called a brush fire. Fortunately, both fires were brought under control quite quickly.
Along with the rain, we have fresh snow on the mountains, leading to rather nippy winds. Only a week ago we were up there, and the snowpack was melting like that pesky little what's-her-name's spell was breaking. If you stepped off the packed trail you were up past your knees instantly, with boots filled with snow.
I don't mind the rain; just let the frost stay away from the peach blossoms - that's all we can ask for, now that the cherries and apricots are safely past blooming.
Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away ... my days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle
A bit wet of late. Not that I mind
Temps are running on the low side, with highs in the mid to upper 40sF. A little nippy for me, but I am still holding out for a possible fire this weekend. I have some branches to clear from the garden, and rhubarb that need proper disposal, and some Brats to warm in the process
Also having some talk of snow here, but fortunatly it's all overnight stuff that's destined to melt not long after the sunrise.
The weather here is typical of spring - one day cold, wet and dreary, with nature unable to decide if it's going to give us rain or snow; the next, almost too hot with temperatures pushing 80F/27C.
But that foot of snow is but a memory now and soon the grass will be green and the trees budding - and all the allergy symptoms that go with spring will be in full bloom.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
A huge low-pressure center in the middle of the US spawned some deadly tornadoes in southern states yesterday, along with heavy rains and flood warnings.
Here on the north side of this slow-moving system, it's just a cool rain - 4 inches (100mm) or more since Saturday night. It's in the low 40s F (about 5C) now, so imagine if it were just a bit colder...that would be up to 40 inches (1m) of snow!
Rain is expected into the weekend, and there is already lots of standing water out there. Houses in low-lying areas are already having flooding basement problems.
Speaking of snow, we may get some the next few days as the system's rotation brings in colder Canadian air. Probably won't get much (especially compared to last year's remarkable May Day snow).
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
I tried to tell myself to stop whining about the lack of rain after those same storms built around us but missed our house completely. I think we got .06" of rain? It sure would be nice to get a lot more than that. We have a few chances for rain over the next 48 hours so hopefully....
What we have now instead is blowing dust. I was making fun of NOAA's prediction for blowing dust up until yesterday when the skies turned brown and you could smell the dirt in the air. Blegh. Need rain.
