46 Celsius today! Ugh.
That is far too hot! And it especially sounds weird considering it was -40C/F here with the windchill not too long ago, and will be approaching that again tonight.
fantasia, that tumbleweed-covered house is hilarious, lol!
Ah yes, Alberta clippers, from the country of yours truly. Interesting about the ships too, 'gazer.

That must be some wifi! Glad it's available in the marshes there.
We are having snowfall every few days or so—sometimes daily. Loving it! This morning we woke up again to another 4 or 5". So pretty, but the driving was not good at all. Walking, however, was such fun: towering eddies of snow 'tornadoed' in front of me a few spots early this morning. Such a delight; almost magical in the dark and hush of this winter's morn. We have not had a winter like this in too long, so I can't stop grinning. I made the rounds to the neighbours shoveling this morning (the snow was very light and fluffy and lots of it) because, to be honest, I like shoveling that much. Seriously.
Another cold snap is descending upon us right now, hence the windchill will drop down to near -35C/-31F tonight, with flurries. This arctic air is supposed to ease somewhat by Friday, but still the flurries continue.

My mom does the same or at least has in the past. She doesn't exactly have a neighborhood to shovel where she lives now.
All schools in the area are closed tomorrow because of the temperatures. They were closed today as well. That will make 5 "cold" days this month! Some schools will have to make up days. I'm making a good use of the time off but unfortunately I don't get paid if I don't sub.

Nice!
I don't think our Halton school board has closed the schools yet this winter, surprisingly, in spite of frigid temperatures some days this January. They are a stubborn bunch. They almost insist children go to school at all costs (except in freezing rain), but when it's this cold, they do not have outdoor recesses.
I just came back from my evening walk under a sparkling, clear sky. Orion, that mighty Hunter is magnificent ... with Jupiter following not too far behind. Cold, though, getting very cold again, yep. How I love that crunch of snow underfoot!

Now would that be barefoot my dear hobbit?
We have also been getting snow on sort of irregular intervals, but thankfully it's been awhile since anything major has fallen.
Started out quite cold this morning around -20f, but it has been gradually been warming all day. There is actually talk of it reaching 20F ABOVE. I am hoping it is so. The cold has been keeping me out of the shop, and there is a project that I am wanting very much to finish.
Alaska - at least Anchorage and the Valley, where I live - had a huge thaw for the past two weeks. On Saturday and Sunday we woke up to temps of 50 degrees F! Usually January is our coldest month, so it's extra strange. We've got frost again now, though, and it's supposed to keep getting gradually colder this week.
Wish we could've traded our thaw for everyone else's "Polar Vortex"; it's embarrassing for us to have such a mild winter.

Oh, God. Please, no more solar vortex for South Australia. K, thanks!

The record Alaskan heat has gotten a lot of attention here, since our meteorologists are fond of the maxim that when "it's warm in Alaska, it's cold here, and vice versa." The same weather pattern that pushes warm Pacific air north toward you directs the Siberian Express down over the north central US.
Today's almost hot, however, at 15F/-9C. But we got a quick 6.6 inches/170mm of powder snow during this morning's rush hour, complicating traffic a bit. Nothing like the incredible pictures coming out of Atlanta, however.
And once again this clipper will be followed by cold air (but not the Arctic cold we've had recently), with lows tonight around -15F/-26C.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Now would that be barefoot my dear hobbit?
Not. Quite.
it's embarrassing for us to have such a mild winter.
And we are having quite the opposite here as there have been long frigid spells with a good amount of snow, more this winter than most in the recent past. However, this is the type of winter I grew up with and one I revel in, so I'm loving it. Few are though.
We wrapped up our recent frigid spell to welcome more snow tomorrow. Between 8 - 10" are supposed to fall, with the temperature being just below freezing, accompanied by a stiff SE wind. As the temp rises briefly Saturday evening to 1° above freezing, there may be a touch of freezing rain, then even rain (but not toooo much of either, please ), and come Sunday, another cold air mass moves in to visit us for awhile again.

The last two or three days have been really hot, with 38C and upwards, especially in the afternoon, and now that January is finished we are told it was the driest on record. There hasn't been any really decent rain since Christmas day. Today is still too warm and a bit humid as well, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.
I expect that Punxatawney Phil will mispredict when you have spring in the next couple of days.
it's been -20C for a couple of days now. They were promising warmer weather (around -16/-14C) but so far it hasn't come. The only really annoying thing about this weather is getting the car to start. It snowed two days ago, but it was more of a light snow fall, we haven't had any heavy snow fall in a long time. Honestly, I'm glad that I am able to stay home and not go anywhere in this weather though De and Narnian_Archer are loving every second of this weather What has been very nice is we have had sunny days for just about the entire week (saving the day it snowed). Sunny weather in winter is my favorite type of winter weather and the only one I can actually more or less enjoy. With January coming to a close, I guess we'll see what Feburary has in store for us weather-wise

The last few days have been rather hot and it looks like we'll be having low to mid-40's for quite awhile still.

The temp has been decent but the weather rather random. Short down pours of rain. Very windy for summer. Though WA is usually windy.
Rather sunny with the temps in the upper teens F, to the lower twenties. Plenty of sun as well, so I'm opening the curtains on the shop, and getting some work done for a change.
We have winter weather warnings galore this evening. Here in the next couple hours it's supposed to start snowing. We're not going to get a TON of snow relatively speaking (I think... 4-7"?) but it's gonna get cold, and very windy. All of our schools around this area are already closed for tomorrow. I even heard from a FB friend that KU (Kansas University) is closed tomorrow. That's REALLY unusual. Should be interesting to see if we get the blizzard they're anticipating.
We are not expecting temperatures above freezing for well over a week. I'm prepared to stay home and bundle up in a pile of blankets.
fantasia_kitty. Looks like the same system that's hitting you will be missing most of Minnesota. We might see a little along the Iowa border, but not much. Channel 4 weather says we can thank the cold front that's currently over us for that. Hmmmmm. Cold, or snow?
