'Tis my pleasure! It's up to a balmy 0F/-17C here as we approach noon. Tonight will be a bit nippy...possibly -15F/-26C.

Tonight's Holidazzle parade through downtown Minneapolis may be cancelled if windchills reach -25F/-32C. I remember going downtown all bundled up to watch it in years past...the wind blowing between the tall buildings creates a sort of wind tunnel effect that can be quite chilling. ;))

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

;)) fantasia!

Glad your weather is not too hot yet, IloveFauns. Here's hoping that is a good portend of how your summer will be, overall. :)

Our weather is so confused. ;))

Ours two. A week ago we had snow covering the ground, but yesterday the temperature rose to a balmy 16C/60.8F, which is highly unusual for early December here. Last evening, though, even as I was on my walk around supper, I felt the air changing and woke up this morning to -1C/30.2F, with a wind chill of -8C/17.6F ... not really cold, but still a rather drastic change from those daytime temps. ;)) Beautiful weather for walking, indeed!

How are you managing with the colder temperatures, fantasia and Glimmie? (I bet Fiona's loving them, lol.)

Whoa, your area is getting a dynamic taste of winter surely, Puddleglum and 'gazer! ;)) Stay safe!

*feels for those parts of Australia that have terrible bushfires* :(

The ski areas love it!

Ditto here! When the snow came about a week ago, the ski hills were thrilled to be opening up already ... as were the skiers. :)

the wind blowing between the tall buildings creates a sort of wind tunnel effect that can be quite chilling.

I remember my Dad saying that on windy days during the years he worked in downtown Toronto, the city would string sturdy ropes up between buildings for people to hold on to, as, like you say, a kind of wind tunnel takes effect between those tall structures. My Dad said he found it quite humorous watching all the prim and proper business people dressed up ... and hanging for dear life to the ropes. ;)) It's amazing the strength of wind when funneled.

Over the weekend here, it remains below freezing, with the possibility of some wet snow arriving Monday morning. :)

None to worry my dear hobbit. Bundle up is rule one in this weather.
Though I must admit some folks around here are a bit more lax on the common sense. I still saw a jogger out when the Mrs. and I were driving. A word of caution to anyone feeling such an urge, there have been cases of folks getting frostbite on the lungs from doing the very thing. If you have to run in the winter, get a treadmill.
As for me, it's up early for some O.T. so "early to bed, early to rise" as one of you humans was noted to say. Don't know how much wiser I'll be, but I might get some more sense ;)
High is supposed to be only about -3. So it'll be a bit brisk in the early am.

Hi, nice to meet you. :)

The really hot days in southern mainland Australia are usually in January and February. That's when children and the elderly are most at risk from the high temperatures, and we have the worst bushfires.

I don't know which part of Oz or NZ you come from, but we in Sydney have been getting bushfires and high temperatures this year as early as October, which you might have heard of. It's early days in summer yet, and I am dreading what January and February might bring.

Oh gosh don't remind me of those days. My least favorite of the year. I use to enjoy summer more when I was a young child living in Tasmania where the weather was nice in the summer. Now It is the middle months of the year I most like. Anything from late december to mid-march I can do without. I am very pale to, which means I tend to spend most of the summer avoiding the sun between the usual hours.

I also spend much of the summertime avoiding the hot sun.

I saw a pretty sight in the sky today. It was quite clear and crisp, with the high almost making the 0F/-17C mark. So there were plenty of ice crystals in the air, making for bright beautiful sun dogs along with a complete halo around the sun at times. There was also a spectacular circumzenithal arc, a sort of 'smile in the sky' or upside down rainbow, nearly overhead. I've only seen this a few times.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Not really cold?! Must be nice being part Polar Bear. ;) We hit 34F/1.1C this morning and it will be colder this evening and tomorrow. I will ditto our Watchful Admin's thanks for making such a temperature seem so....warm. :-o

It's still ridiculous having all these snow and winter-themed songs on the radio when Perth's about to have a massive heat wave...

I have heard that the summer in perth and the southwest is going to be less extreme this year. Feels like it at the moment I must say or have I adapted to the heat over the years?

we're really snowed in here. It's wasn't too cold recently, from around 3C/37F to -1C/30F, but the snow is determined to stay, even if it's sticky at 3C, it snows all the time, so there's no getting rid of it. Today it got down to -12C/10F and there's a strong wind, so it seems like winter is really kicking in although my dad said they are promising back up to 3C/37F next week. Did I mention we've got a LOT of snow. Today is the first day in the past week that it hasn't snowed at least once, usually it snows two to three times a day.

always be humble and kind

The ABC mentioned that the third cricket Test that's coming up in Perth will be in the middle of a heat wave (so there'll be a lot of "and now drinks on the field" from the radio commentary team)

Wait what is this the ashes?. I remember something about them not having a match in perth this time around?. I don't pay much attention to cricket so this must of changed.

I don't look forward to this heatwave.

It's a heat wave here too...all the way up to 19F/-7C. The TV news people were joking about sunscreen and such.

International Falls, the "Nation's Icebox," has had several nights below -33F/-36C of late.

For those seeking the ultimate escape from the summer heat Down Under, did you notice that Antarctica recently notched the all-time world cold record? Measured by satellite, it came in at an amazing -135.8F/-93.2C - and this just a few days before the beginning of summer in the Southern Hemisphere!

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

well summer is here.

It was rather hot today. It really hits you when you have been in aircon all day and than leave work. It is like running into a wall when you go out the door. Though at around 6-8 at night it is lovely outside during the summer.

Temps finally hitting the twenty's today. Would have been great but for the snow. Granted it was of the light, and fluffy variety, but it still packs down well in the sidewalk.
We are supposed to keep the "warm spell" for a couple days before we return to the norm. Ah Well. It will be fun while it lasts. Might just confuse the neighbors tomorrow, start the gas grill, and cook some brats.

Happy solstice!

At 1711 UTC (1111 in this time zone), the sun was directly overhead as seen from the Pacific just west of Chile. This marks the sun's southernmost point of the year and it began its six month journey north. Astronomical summer begins in the Southern Hemisphere and winter in the Northern.

(Meteorological winter is said to begin here December 1, and while the month has been colder than average here, today's not bad. It's currently 18F/-7C, pretty mild compared to what it could be.)

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

We are welcoming winter with a winter storm. It's pretty mild here compared to places like TN and OH which are getting tornadoes and flooding :-o but we got freezing rain overnight and snow right now. I believe we're expecting 3-6"?

Down here we are still currently frying in temperatures of 41 degrees Celsius (105 degrees F). It isn't too bad in Sydney, which will probably get hot temperatures tomorrow. But it is hideous here. It was bad Friday & yesterday and today the maximum was 46 degrees Celsius (112F). When does Astronomical summer finish? I can barely wait. ;)
