So I missed the 5th-largest Twin Cities snowfall on record - the 20 inches received over the weekend. But that's okay. I can't resist linking the video of the Metrodome roof collapsing from the snow. Note that the roof has endured Minnesota winters without a breach since 1983.

That video was just weird to see, they had to play the game in Detroit! (Lets not comment on how the game went.. lol).

Every time I drive to school I see spin-outs, it's scary. And they haven't plowed the streets wide enough yet, lots of cars ramming through huge banks of snow.
I don't want to get anyone's hopes up, but I THINK we will have a white Christmas in Minnesota ;)

The question might be, will we have a white Fourth of July? ;))

A friendly reminder about the total lunar eclipse that begins in just over 24 hours...though it looks like we'll be watching snowflakes rather than the Earth's shadow.

North America has the best seats for this one, though parts of the eclipse will be visible in several other continents. The timeline for the Eastern Time Zone (GMT - 5 hours) is this:

First contact (the earth's darker shadow begins crossing the moon): 0133.
Totality begins (moon entirely in the shadow): 0241
Totality ends: 0353
Last contact (earth's darker shadow no longer touching the moon): 0501.

Much more (including world visibility maps, what to expect during totality, and observing tips) can be found here.

EDIT: For an idea of what to expect, check out this eclipse animation.

Since this eclipse occurs just hours before the December solstice (which marks the beginning of Northern Hemispere winter), the moon is just about as high and well-placed as it can be.

In the Southern Hemisphere, summer begins at the solstice, which comes at 11:38 pm GMT December 21.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

5 straight days of rain here in Southern California with almost 2 inches total so far (seems like more). One more bigger storm tomorrow before some relief.

^I haven't experienced snow :(

Recently, it rains. I think it usually happens when it's December. With the rain comes cold winds and chilly nights, brrrrr...

Oh It's tank top weather! That's what you get when you live in the southern United States. It was cold then it got warm. Last year it was soooo cold. We had a snow storm ( a Small one). It was so cool :)

Tonight: Cloudy, patchy fog possible, 100% chance of showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms, heavy at times, breezy, low around 52°F.

Wednesday: Cloudy, cool, patchy fog possible in the morning, 100% chance of showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms, windy, high of about 56°F.

Not very often do you see 100% forecast for rain. At least I rarely do. :) Will have to take a different way home tonight as the rural way is more flooded. #:-s

The latest storm out in California is starting to create quite a buzz out east. The best weather model in the world, statistically speaking, is the European model. For the past couple of days, it has been showing a classing "nor-easter" storm for Christmas and the day or two after.

For those that are wondering, a "nor-easter" is a storm that moves north along the east coast of the US. These storms feed off of the warm, moist air over the Atlantic Ocean and throw all that moisture back over the mainland. If the storm tracks far enough east, many of the big cities on the east coast get hammered with a couple feet of snow. If the low is closer to the actual coast line, inland areas like me get the heavy snow!

These storms are typically very hard to predict more than a couple days in advance, as just the slightest difference in the track of the storm can make-or-break a forecast. It should be fun to watch this system come from California, across the Rockies and out over the Gulf of Mexico...

Well, my snowstorm is tauntingly close, but staying just too far east to give me any snow. Bummer :(

Incredibly, it rained (lightly) here today as well...rain in Minnesota on December 30! Astonishing.

These very warm temperatures (around 34F/2C even at night) have evaporated some of our snowpack, resulting in heavy fog.

Big changes are coming, though; by January 1 the forecast high is about 7F/-14C with night temps below 0F/-17C.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

We have serious wind right now with the dreaded brown out. During these 50-70 mph gusts, you can't see much more than 30 feet in front of you due to dirt, not snow. This storm is bringing is very serious cold by El Paso standards. Tomorrow Sun Bowl forecast for the game between Notre Dame and Miami (the most hyped and best match-up in Sun Bowl history) has possible snow at kickoff and tomorrow night is supposed to drop into the teens. Where I am, 30 miles south east of El Paso, that usually translates to single digit temps (all F). For here, that is very cold.

Denver is expecting sub-zero temps (F) with their first major winter storm of the season. All this talk about snow makes me REALLY want to go skiing, but that is not happening this year.

Be watching for the release of my spiritual warfare novel under a new title: "Call to Arms" by OakTara Publishing. A sequel (title TBD) will shortly follow.

We've had pretty fair weather. Been kinda humid which is good cause we had some VERY dry days. The past couple of days it's been around 60 Degrees F

I woke up this morning to the sound of a thunderstorm. VERY strange weather for New Years Eve. The rain melted most of our snow, leaving just a few mushy piles of white here and there. But the temperature is way up from what it's been, so I guess I can't complain. :D
