It's snowing! Snowing- first snow of the season!
*enters singing "It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas" *
Enjoy your snow, LessThanGold! The first snowfall of the season is always fun (unless you have to drive in it ).
It's snowing heavily here at the moment, with another 5-7 inches (13-18 cm) expected on top of what we already have. It's a very white world out there.
Last night was the coolest of the season so far, bottoming out around 4F/-15C...a bit nippy but not nearly as cold as December can get around here.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
It snowed! It snowed!! It snowed!!!
And it stuck! I shall attatch pics when I upload them

Lots of snow outside, it's awesome. I went cross country skiing in it at the park the other day and that was really cool, felt like I was in a snow globe.
And my city is doing a good job keeping the paths cleared this year, I'm pleasantly surprised. No running in 6 inches of snow like last year!
I envy all you who have a lot of snow. We have just a tinsy bit, it kinda cold outside, -10 degrees below zero (celsius). A few days ago it was -22 but now it has gotten nice and warm, (on the day it was -22 was the day that we got to trudge in the cold for half an hour, not the most pleasant of expriances, our car wouldn't start, so we had to walk to the train station, on the way back we were able to take the bus )
It's pleasant to be outside now, not too cold, I only wish it there would be a bit more snow, although I am sooooo glad we have sunshine almost every day now, only it sets so soon, by five it is already pitch black outside

it's 40 degrees where I'm at, clear skies and sunny. Perfect weather to me at least.

Aw..... We cannot experience snow here..
It's a cloudy day today. Temperature is fine, cool and very soothing... makes me want to read a book and sip some tea...

Yesterday afternoon it finally stopped snowing after about four days. Just in time for final exams.

The Great Lakes area has had some spectacular snowfall totals over the last few days.
Our area is known for cold winters, and cooler temps are finally setting in. Highs next week might reach 5F/-15C, with lows approaching -10F/-23C. Ahhh....
Twilight is falling here now, with Jupiter and the crescent moon below it just coming out over the freshly-fallen snow. So it's time for a few astronomical public service announcements...
The earliest sunsets of the year come this week, even though the solstice is still two weeks off (it's the shortest day in the Northern Hemisphere, even though it doesn't have the earliest sunset or latest sunrise. It's caused by the tilt of the earth and its elliptical orbit).
Jupiter - that bright light in the south at dusk - is slowly approaching another gas giant, Uranus, and will pass just south of it early in January. It makes a convenient marker for the much dimmer planet - I've had no trouble spotting Uranus in my 10x50 binoculars even in well-lit suburban skies. Check out this page for more info and finder charts (to distinguish Uranus from dimmer stars and Jupiter's moons).
That crescent moon is growing toward full - and the night of the solstice features a total lunar eclipse with North America having a ringside seat. It'll come early on the morning of December 21 (midnight to 4 am in my timezone). I'll publicize it again as it gets closer; more details are available here.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
So, there's a blizzard here right now. Our cars are basically burried, I can only see parts of their windows.
And tomorrow the high is supposed to be 1 degree F.
It rained much of the day here in northeast Illinois. There was extremely thick fog on the way home from last night Lion Party. It's beginning to snow now, those big, pretty scattered snowflakes.
I've been watching the weather reports from Minnesota and Wisconsin. Ryadian's mother estimates 18 inches of new snow in the northern Twin Cities suburbs with some drifting. Interstates are closing, plows are being pulled off the roads, and Wisconsin officials are advising no travel statewide through tomorrow. Getting back to Minnesota may be quite a challenge.
Edit: Here is a treat for all you space flight/shuttle fans out there: the "Best of the Best" shuttle videos from a NASA engineer - a 45-minute video frequently including high-def and slow-motion shots.

It snowed today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At last winter is starting to behave as it ought. It was so nice to walk through the wind with the snow stinging my face, I like a little of cold weather, but not a lot, the annoying thing is that it's cold here all the way till the end of march, which is far to long for me. One and a half months of winter is plenty for me

It's snowing a lot where I'm at. At least I saw the new Narnia movie before it got this bad.

With close to 40 inches of snow received so far this winter, it really is quite pretty outside, especially if you don't have to drive through it. Navigating around those mountains of snow can be tricky.
We returned from the Chicago Lion Party Monday. The ground was barely covered there; by the time we reached central Wisconsin there were 15-foot tall snowdrifts (gauged from the semi trailers abandoned in them). Something of an adventure getting back, though the roads were good most of the time.
So I missed the 5th-largest Twin Cities snowfall on record - the 20 inches received over the weekend. But that's okay. I can't resist linking the video of the Metrodome roof collapsing from the snow. Note that the roof has endured Minnesota winters without a breach since 1983.
States like Ohio and New York are again getting pounded by lake-effect snow that puts local totals to shame. Florida and the southeast US are shivering under the cold. All in all, an interesting winter is shaping up!

It been snowing most of the night, and right now it's like a whiteout outside
Too bad almost that I'm going home today... (But seeing my rabbit and VDT will be worth it )
