Do horror films count? There are quite a few religious horror films.
I don't know if horror films would count. I'm not really into those myself. Horror films tend to expose us to the demonic world, so that's something we have to be cautious about.
If you mean like the end time movies, those could be kind of scary. I haven't really watched many of those, though. I've watched the Left Behind trilogy and a movie called The Omega Code. I actually consider those to be more of a thriller, though.

I wonder if anyone has watched religious films during the holiday season? There isn't a really a whole lot. I remember seeing The Nativity Story in theaters, which is a movie about the birth of Christ.
There has not been very many Christmas specials about baby Jesus. I grew up watching A Charlie Brown Christmas, and it features Linus telling about baby Jesus.
So I wonder if anyone has watched religious films during the Holiday season or even a Christmas special.

@jasmine_tarkheena There's this webpage called The Island of Misfit Christmas Specials that's full of reviews of obscure or semi obscure Christmas specials. One of them is called The Little Troll Prince and the reviewer describes it as being explicitly and inextricably Christian. However, they also describe it as not being very good. You might want to check it out anyway. There are a lot of big names in the voice cast.
For better or worse-for who knows what may unfold from a chrysalis?-hope was left behind.

The Passion of the Christ is a really hard movie to watch, especially if you are religious. Though I will say it is actually close to accurate, especially in showing how badly Jesus was beaten.
It's a shame they didn't get into the post-Resurrection events. It's a key part of the story, and it would lighten it up a bit. I didn't personally find it nearly as gruesome as a lot of movies today, but it definitely made the statement.
@azog-the-defiler You might like to know that a sequel is in the works that is called Ressurrection I believe!
There's been so many religious movies about Jesus, and that's a hard Bible character get right, especially the kind of person He was.
There's also a movie that just came out called The Shift which is a modern thriller take on the Book of Job. I'll probably go see it eventually.

I may have heard about that a while ago. I'm glad to see them completing the story, because that's rather important.

You're probably right. A mortal being can't explain the divine perfectly.
King of Kings was actually on Inspirational Channel this morning for Easter. I didn't have time to watch the whole thing though, since our church was having an Easter breakfast.

I watched King of Kings on Blu-ray Thursday night and last night I watched The Ten Commandments. Tonight I am watching Ben-Hur. I have seen these movies multiple times and I never tire of watching them. They are wonderful classic films that are no longer made, but I still appreciate them very much no matter how often I watch them. I purchased them years ago so that I don’t have to wait until they are shown again on television. 🙂
Sights And Sounds Theatres will be featuring one of their shows Daniel at the cinemas. It may be worth checking out.

My mom and I are going to see Sight and Sound's Daniel in the movie theater. It might be worth checking out at a theatre near you or if you're in the Lancaster, Pennsylvania area to see it live.

I got to see Sight and Sound’s production of Daniel at the cinemas this Monday. It was beyond incredible and it went really into depth about Daniel and his friends being taken from their home to Babylon. It actually makes you feel like you were in Ancient Babylon. It even featured Jesus in a couple of scenes- the fiery furnace and the lion’s den.
It’s definitely worth seeing: whether streaming or on DVD at home or even live in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and it will probably eventually come to Branson, Missouri.

I am rewatching The Robe. I always loved this movie in spite of how dated it looks now. It was made back in 1953 when they had old fashioned sets and stilted acting (especially by Richard Burton). 1950’s religious films are often a bit artificial, but they have a nostalgic charm. It is great to watch at Easter or any time of year.
Here is a trailer:
There was a movie about the book of Jeremiah that I quite enjoyed (it put the book in chronological order which made following it in the bible easier) - though it introduced a love interest for no reason, it starred Patric Dempsey before he was famous. (Free on youtube: https://youtu.be/wM9es3cUbZs)
The Miracle Maker is fantastic! Its claymation style but with great performances from the voice actors.

Though it is a bit poorly acted, I have a soft spot for “The Jesus Film” from 1979 (it’s been translated into more languages then any other movie - it’s word for word from Luke’s gospel and you can watch for free).

Amazing Grace about the life of William Wilberforce is really uplifting (just about a faithful man following the Lord in tough circumstances).
There was a movie called “Ragamuffin” about the life of the songwriter Rich Mullins (which is free on YouTube) which was quite good. It does not water down that he was a man who had a lot of issues while many Christians were holding him up as an ideal. Good movie about Gods grace in the midst of the mess of life.

Another one - not great acting (or production values in general), but "Bonhoeffer: Agent of Grace" gives a fairly accurate portrayal of the Dietrich Bonhoeffer's final months. (Also free on youtube - I sound like an ad: https://youtu.be/2325_APzy6c)
The 2025 King of Kings from Angel Studios didn’t break any new ground but it was an entertaining watch.
And while it take some liberties to- The Sound of Music does a great job of showing Gods faithfulness to the VonTrap family during world war 2 (though it embellishes things - they left Austria before the Nazis took it over historically).
The term is over: the holidays have begun.
The dream is ended: this is the morning
I've actually seen the Jeremiah movie with Patrick Dempsey (which I believe was his pre "Grey's Anatomy, though he might have already been famous at the time. I'm not sure).
In talks of religious films, there's a new animated film called Light of the World coming out in September. Here's the trailer for it right here:
