At the end of The Last Battle, when Aslan asks, "Have you not guessed?"
Oh yes. There's a lot of things in The Last Battle that you didn't expect to happen or that are allowed to happened. In that case, you learned that the seven friends of Narnia had died in the railway accident.
"And this is the marvel of marvels, that he called me beloved."
(Emeth, The Last Battle)
@rraym I'm so glad you mentioned Caspian's Nurse. That's the one that makes me cry.
“She said ‘Oh, Aslan! I knew it was true. I’ve been waiting for this all my life. Have you come to take me away?’ ‘Yes, Dearest,’ said Aslan. ‘But not the long journey yet.’”
The one reunion in The Last Battle that gets me is Tirian and Erlian. The last time he saw his father, he was dying of wounds from a giant. We don't see much about Erlian but he sounds like a very good king.
When I finally got to read The Last Battle I had no idea about the ending and it really knocked me. Tears were definitely released. I know you should also see it as a happy ending for the characters, but... it was still such a tragic situation which brought them there in the first place, and really I hadn't expected Lewis to go there!
I'd need a further think at what else may have made me tearful. The above leapt out to me to mention over anything else for now
