This is from an internet forum Q&A Discussion with someone who is apparently "Tim" from the "merchandising and promotional department at Weta" (From a brief look at the thread I would see no reason to doubt those credentials). Anyway...

Question: I have a question in regards to your work on Prince Caspian, and just wanted to know why they didnt produce the helmets from the film after all? Also, did you guys contribute to the third installment?
Answer: Do you mean the Prince Caspian helmet collectibles ? If so, we stopped them due to a lack of demand. Very sad. We liked them!
For Dawn Treader, we only did some minor work.
Cheers, Tim
So there is the answer: "Minor Work". That was only posted just this saturday, so if anyone wanted to register for that forum and maybe question him some more, you probably still can:

That said, i don't see why anyone would have reason to be upset about Weta not being more involved than just minor work. If you've seen some of the absolutely stunning prop work by the likes of Chris Martin and Ian Kath then there is no reason to be worried at all.
As long as they're involved in some way. They're work is stunning !
if they are not doing the weapons, then who is?

^^maybe they are doing weapons. It's not like the movie is gonna have alot (unless they add some stupid "epic" action scene )

Just a quick follow on from that previous post, i found another Discussion Forum Q&A, this time with Weta's senior model maker Dave Tremont on the WetaCollectors.com site. He elaborates a bit further on the work done by Weta on Voyage of the Dawn Treader.... (but only little bit)
http://www.wetacollectors.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1242339
Question: David, I was just wondering if Weta was having anything to do with the forthcoming Voyage of the Dawn Treader film. I knew that Disney gave it up, but it appears that it's progressing nicely under the banner of Fox with Michael Apted of all people at the helm. Any news? Collectibles? Hints?
Answer:Weta has limited involvement with ‘Dawn Treader’. Mostly props. There is no news or hints on collectibles... we have not talked about anything.
So that means the official word so far on Weta's involvement is: "Minor Work" and "Mostly Props". Like i said before though, no reason to be at all concerned given the quality of the props/set/model work we've seen so far
^^maybe they are doing weapons. It's not like the movie is gonna have alot (unless they add some stupid "epic" action scene )
but the crew on the ship still need to have weapons!

At least they did some work but I think it just may have been like pre-production stuff or something. I am sad they're not doing more because I love to see what they come up with and it's nice to have NZers working on it. Are Chris Martin and Ian Kath working on VDT?
I can understand that Weta could be expensive too. Though I am wondering what company they used too.
BTW I really liked those helmets.

Yes, they are two of the individuals who built props for the movie for which we've been lucky enough to see a few pictures from.
Though I am wondering what company they used too.
I don't think there is any single one company that has taken over all of Weta's roles and responsibilities from the last two films. Rather they have been replaced by amalgamations of freelance individuals (such as the two mentioned above) and many smaller companies who are doing specific components of the practical effects for the movie (i.e props, modelling, miniatures, mattes, sets, design, etc)
Well, its a relief to know that Weta has at least a minor role in making Dawn Treader awesome!

I really wouldn't care if WETA was working on VDT. They are brilliant with what they have done so far on the Narnia films. I hope this rumor is true.
Edit: i feel even better seeing other posts saying they still have something to do with VDT even though it's minor it still makes me happy

I believe it is safe for me to answer this question now.... at least I hope it is. But Weta Workshop made "the seven swords of the seven Lords" for the movie. And that is the extent of their involvement with this film.
