Haven't heard of her, either. Casting a pop singer makes me a little worried about how other people might be cast. I want people to be believable in their roles and not to be people to point out as modern pop singers or whatever. It just makes me a little cautious... But also as I know nothing about her, I can't really judge her at this stage in regard to acting skill, and she does have something of a Jadis look.
@icarus I have seen very few movies in the last few years! I don't go for the really popular ones. 2024 - one movie at cinema. Watched Barbie on a plane, didn't take in any music - would have considered it just background music for the film.
I watch more films on TV or streamed, but do not have very modern tastes. I'm also the person who doesn't watch/listen to pop music as it's not my preference (for over 20 years) Couldn't spot Taylor Swift in a line-up!
Whatever actress is chosen, I am sure there will be some level of ageing makeup for her in the Charn, Narnia and London scenes, and then her permanent pale look from Aslan's Garden on.
There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.

You know, there actually is a character in The Magician's Nephew who needs to be a good singer: Aslan. Maybe Charlie XCX could do his singing and someone else could do his speaking.
For better or worse-for who knows what may unfold from a chrysalis?-hope was left behind.

I literally laughed out loud. Well played.
@icarus, in spite of never having heard of this artist, I did recognize your song and it's been stuck in my head all day today. Thank you for that...
Well, ´key role´ doesn´t have to mean Jadis. Perhaps Jadis´s sister, I imagine Gerwig would like go deeper into Jadis´s backstory so I imagine there´d have to be flashbacks.
Exactly this. I think @coracle said this elsewhere but I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a case where Gerwig has been considering Charli XCX for some role, and the people reporting it just defaulted to the most obvious adult female character—Jadis.

Also, potentially, we will have the battle scene that takes place between Jadis and her sister.
Slightly off topic but I want to comment on this real fast. I've never gotten out of my head that original Netflix quote from back in the day (and I'm paraphrasing here because I don't want to go look up their exact quote) that they were hoping to do both films and TV series. In this day and age where every single giant movie franchise has a million TV series spinoffs, I personally believe that if the Narnia movies are successful, the TV series spin-offs are sure to follow, and the number one spinoff I can think of is Charn. If that turns out to be the case, anyone they cast as Jadis's sister will have a much bigger role outside of the small bit they show in the book. If Gerwig opts to expand on Charn in MN, and she very well might, would that take away too much from a TV series of its own? We'll see.
Having said all that, I do think Jadis's sister is a very viable suggestion for Charlie XCX.
One other thing I'd like to comment on is several people mentioning Jadis's age. I'd personally like to see her as ageless as possible. As long as she doesn't look older than Uncle Andrew, I'm good. And as we discussed in an Uncle Andrew thread elsewhere, his age can be brought down, no problem.
@Courtenay, Tilda was 44 when she played Jadis? Well now I feel really old because that's about how old I am and she looked older to me too at the time (though that didn't bother me, so there's that LOL)......

Barbara Kellerman (born Dec 1949) was seemingly only 38 when she played the White Witch, which is crazy because I would have said she was the older of the two main WW performances.
Either way, and looking at some of the actresses who have played WW on stage recently, the average age seems to be around 40.
Therefore if they are aiming for the 25-32 bracket of Mikey and Charli it's significantly younger than traditionally portrayed.
Coming back to this, I find the online reaction of 'This won't work!' a bit premature—maybe even naive—considering how many pop artists have successfully transitioned into acting. Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, and Zendaya all come to mind. I’m not saying it will work, but there’s at least some precedent.

But isn't she only 5 ft 4? How could she appear ultra-tall?

Perhaps that would be a concern years and years ago, but there are a myriad of movies from the last 25-30 years where the height of an actor is modified in some way for the character.
The obvious example of changing actors' heights is Lord of the Rings, though that's a bit of an extreme example here, so I'll pick another.
In the original X-Men movie, Hugh Jackman plays Wolverine. In the comics, the character of Wolverine is short, so when they filmed the movie, they changed the angles of the cameras when they were shooting because Mr. Jackman is not a short actor and they were trying to mask his height. When I think back on watching the movie (it's been years since I've seen it), he never struck me as tall in the film.
And am I remembering correctly that even Tilda Swinton wore really tall shoes for Walden's Narnia?
Tilda, on the other hand, was already 5'11" . The average height for British women is 5'4. She wore platform shoes for some scenes.
I can't see it as logical to cast a woman of 5'4 to play a towering and dramatic role. To be the same as Tilda she'd need at least 8 inches extra.

I was also thinking that there are certain filming tricks that can be used to make actors appear shorter or taller on screen than they are in real life, with LOTR being the prime example. That to me seems a lot more complicated than simply casting an already-very-tall actress in the role, but it's not impossible, if they really have decided that somebody of quite average height is otherwise perfect for Jadis (or for what they're looking for in Jadis). So although Charli's height makes her less likely on the face of it, I wouldn't rule her out entirely. But the casting still hasn't gone beyond the rumour stage, so as with so much else, we can only wait and see.
"Now you are a lioness," said Aslan. "And now all Narnia will be renewed."

I have no idea who Charlie is, but she seems way too young.
No idea who she is. So long as she does a good job, I'm fine with it. See Ariana Grande as Glinda, for example. I was cautious, but she blew me away with her vocals in "No One Mourns The Wicked," "What Is This Feeling," and her other songs. Her high notes in "No One Mourns The Wicked" were impressive.
