Of course I know the theme! I absolutely love it. When Peter's hand appeares on his sword in LWW, the music is absolutely glorious!! It had better be in VDT or I will very very terribly disappointed and put out.

I don't know if this is the right place to discuss it or not....but what did you think about the music for the trailer? (Is the music in the teaser even used in the movie? I know for sure that the music from one PC trailer was not in the movie.) I liked how upbeat and energetic it sounded when the Dawn Treader appeared. And the beginning still had some mystery to it. I did notice that it lacked the "Narnia" theme though, and that was one thing I really hoped made it into the movie...

I really liked the soundtracks for the first two movies! :D They created the Narnia atmosphere and the WOW moments. I've never heard a score by David Arnold, but I recently got Amazing Grace so I will have to go watch it!

Nope, none of the music in the trailer will be in the movie. Trailer are scored by trailer music companies who composed music specially for use in trailers ONLY. Nothing in the teaser trailer reflects how the score for the movie will sound. If anyone is interested in the music from the trailer however I did some research and with the help of some trailer music experts, figured out all the songs that were used:
(0023) "Prologue (Through the Wall)" ~ Ilan Eshkeri (StarDust OST)
(0035) "Magical Mystery" ~ Brand X Music / Magic Box Music
(0018) "Glory and Honor" ~Two Steps From Hell
(0153) "Heart of Courage"~Two Steps From Hell
(0104) "The Black Legend" ~Immediate Music

Great search. I loved this musical pieces, specially "Glory and Honor" and "Heart of Courage". You see, I'm a "soundtrack geek".
"The Black Legend" is the "trademark" of Narnia trailers. Brings the intensity and power that Aslan shows in his roar.

Also I recognised the StarDust ost... is really beautiful

I thought this was worth posting. Someone made a theme song for Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and I thought it was very well made.

What do you think?

This is awesome! I really hope that the music David Arnold composes is similar to this. It actually reminds me of his score for Stargate 1994 :p

It's a very Narnian sounding piece isn't it? It needs a few deeper sounding instruments though to complement the melody.

Personally, I hope David Arnold *does* keep the them, but I hopes he developes them. They are lovely themes. But I think Gresham's (and I'm not meaning him any harm) but I think his over all mistake is/was: using principle themes with little or no variation in the orchestration... because it is simply confusing in Prince Casipian and The Lion, the Witch, and The Wardrobe. Same battle music: you can think of either battle scenes for the exact same music.

I *do* think though, that using the vocal piece when the kids reentered Narnia and were playing on the beach was a big plus: it reminded me of them playing in the snow... I felt like *I* was back in Narnia, it was a magical, enchanting feeling. Also, when the children see Aslan's how again, that music was simply awesome. I am keenly aware of the chill of excitement and utter awe. Those two pieces pulled me into Narnia and I felt like I was there...

on the same hand, I do think there needs to be some variations in at least tempo, instruments, etc. Like why not have a solo flute or violin (or even cello depending on the mood) for a scene? And then mix up some of the orchestration and rely on strings at one point for a beautiful 'magical' scene, and then for an adventurous twist use the brass and lower strings? I think though, there should be a lot of strings in the background either way for VotDT at least, to give the feel of the life and vigor of the waves etc. =)

It's been very interesting looking at everybody's opinions on having a new composer. I was very disappointed at first, because I was very pleased with Harry Gregson-Williams's work in LWW and PC. Now, though, I think I am feeling a bit better about things. I am not familiar with David Arnold nor his compositions, but it sounds like a lot of people liked his work in Amazing Grace. Another plus with this is that he has previously worked with Michael Apted. I think this is why the scores for LWW and PC worked out so well--because Andrew Adamson and Harry Gregson-Williams had already worked together on the Shrek movies, and understood each other a little bit better than if they had just met. This way, Adamson was not afraid to correct Gregson-Williams when he felt that some part of the music did not fit with his vision, and Gregson-Williams knew Adamson well enough that he could interpret Adamson's requests into music. Hopefully Apted and Arnold will have or do have this same relationship and will be able to work together to have the filming fit closely with the score.

As for my anticipation for and what I expect in VDT, let's just say that it's too bad that trailer music has nothing to do with the movie music. I'm not saying that I really liked the trailer music, just that it's the one part of the trailer we cannot critique and tear apart, as we have with every other aspect of the trailer. I do hope that that a few of the themes will be kept, and perhaps some variations on the themes to give them their own unique flavor, but other than that, I kind of want something new, albeit "Narnian", that gives us a feel for the adventureous spirit of VDT. If you haven't noticed already, LWW's soundtrack had a sense of wonder and discovery to it, whereas PC had a more nostalgic and urgent feel to it. VDT, in my opinion, should have a feeling of adventure, discovery, temptation, and repentance, as well as change. One thing I especially want to see is Eustace's theme gradually changing and progressing with his character. I'm really excited to hear the music for the undragoning and the end of the world. Those are very spiritual, very dear parts of the book that I want to be portrayed perfectly.

All in all, I am very excited to see what Arnold will do with the new role being placed on him and how well he steps into it.

hey, so just curious... what do people think about Enya doing a credit song for Narnia someday? I think it'd be simply awesome. I'm an *huge* Enya fan, and I'd love it if she could get her hands on something for the Chronicles movies... something like Book of Days/Caribbean Blue etc. though obviously with Narnia influenced lyrics.

I say this not because I want a LotR cop-out, but I'm a big Enya fan. I'd love to see *HER* do something for narnia! =D What's everyone else think?

I thought her song for the Fellowship of the Ring was beautiful, so I'd have no problem with her doing a credit song for Narnia. The credits songs we've gotten so far have mostly been pretty lame, so I don't see how an Enya song could be anything but an improvement.

Enya would be someone good for VDT music. Her songs "Sail Away" "Journey" and "Caribbean Blue" would be good tunes for something like this.

She's sung in other movies too. But I see what you mean Libby, since Tolkien and Lewis were best friends while writing their books together. Still it would be kind of cool if they got the same singer for the movies based off their books. It is Enya's style anyways. ;)

Oh, I'm glad everyone else would love to see Enya there too. Ditto, DamselJill, I thought Caribbean Blue would be a perfect song for Dawn Treader, though as an Enya fan, I'd be far happier if she made up a whole 'new' song for the sake of having something new to add to my completed Enya collection... but the lines 'if all you told were turned to gold, if all you dreamed were new, imagine sky high above in Caribbean Blue...' seems to be be the epitome of Lucy's Narnia existance. She tells the others: 'imagine the sky like this, that's the way *I* see it,' and the others have to say 'do I believe the sky above is Caribbean Blue?'

Exactly Enya's style is so Lewis/Tolkien oriented, Enya's Amid the Falling Snow reminds me of LWW! =D We can only hope! =D Long long journey would be wonderful for this movie too! =D Personally I'm looking forward to this soundtrack, and I've already set aside money and stuck it and sealed it in an envelope that has Narnia all over it for when the soundtrack comes out. I'm a music freak =) Mildly... =)
