I just watched "Amazing Grace" and I loved the music that David Arnold composed. I am very excited to see how he interprets the Narnian theme!
I saw the movie....and was disappointed
^^ David Arnold did an amazing job with "Amazing Grace"! I am also excited about him doing VotDT! and since he's already worked with Michael Apted, it's going to be great!

VDT definitely needs to capture the essence of the previous two movies and to keep up the themes but if it has new ones I will be okay with that. I just hope he doesn't change it heaps. I think Harry was a bit slacked off that he was ditched for VDT too.
Perhaps I shall have to watch Amazing Grace again because the soundtrack did not stand out at all to me. It is good that he and Michael have worked together before as well. That will definitely help.
Also does anyone have any idea when the Soundtrack will be released - they generally come out before the movie don't they. Anyone know how much earlier?

I want Celtic Woman to do a closing song for VDT. Their melodies and sound would fit into Narnia.

I love the soundtracks for Narnia! Very soothing and beautiful! I'm sad Harry Gregson-Williams isn't doing the next movie but I hope the music will still be just as good. Btw, DamselJillPole, I think Celtic Woman would sound nice too! They do kinda fit Narnia.

I really like “This is Home.”
I think it fits Narnia very well, but I kind of wish it had been used in LB instead of PC. Every time I hear it I think of what Jewel said about the Real Narnia
“I have come home at last! This is my real country! I belong here. This is the land I have been looking for all my life, though I never knew it till now.” (The Last Battle, Chapter 15)
Maybe they can use it again if they make LB.

I just found out David Arnold is doing the score for VDT (yes, I'm slow... ), and now I'm more excited for the soundtrack than ever! Amazing Grace's music is amazing, Arnold has a knack for tapping into the raw emotion of a scene, and it's so powerful. Can't wait to see what he comes up with!
I really hope in some ways that David Arnold keeps the Narnian sound. He can change it up a bit but I do still want that Narnia theme in the first two.

My family just watched Amazing Grace (I hadn't seen it in a while) and I have to say that I wasn't too impressed with David Arnold's work. During the movie the music was largely unnoticeable (I did notice that there were minutes-long stretches with no music at all, which I didn't mind). I did not notice any themes or outstanding pieces.
But the piece that played during the credits reminded me of first one movie score and then another. National Treasure, UP, and Star Wars were all evoked. DancingPrincess Miley heard them too.
Once I was even reminded of LWW!
I'm a little worried for the fate of VDT's track at this point.

I fail to see how Amazing Grace could evoke Up considering that it came out three years after Amazing Grace.
I was disappointed to hear that Harry Gregson-Williams wasn't doing the score for VDT, but I have a question...I thought that HGW and Dave Arnold were doing the score together. Am I wrong? I guess this wouldn't work, but for some reason I thought that I saw that somewhere.
I've thought that one of the main differences between the LWW soundtrack and the PC soundtrack is that the LWW has more solos than PC (Like when Lucy enters Narnia, and Lisbeth Scott has more vocal solos. Most of the vocal parts in PC are the choir). Also, one of the things that made PC soundtrack distinctive is the measures that occur again and again throughout the song...I can't really explain it very well. For example, the beginning of the Raid on the Castle is what I'm talking about. Another place is where Miraz is Crowned, or another is Caspian leaving the castle. I love those parts. There is a bit of that kind of repetition in the score. This kind of repetition adds the ambiance of urgency that I feel and love in PC.
I definitely hope that Dave Arnold uses the same themes (it won't be Narnia without them!), but definitely add new themes, that are distinctly Dawn Treader-ish.
I was a bit disappointed too at first.
By the way welcome to Narniaweb Sheroo of Stormness Head!
I hope David Arnold keeps some of the same sound as HGW did for the first two movies too.

I see what you mean. I didn't remember this until after posting. Obviously Mr. Arnold could not, intentionally or otherwise (and I meant otherwise! ) incorporate bits of the Up track into Amazing Grace. But it reminded me of it, nontheless. Probably because I've seen Up more often and more recently then Amazing Grace until that viewing.
Apologies for an inaccurate accusation!

I think this new guy should use two themes from the previous movies.
The entering narnia theme (like when Lucy walks into Narnia for the first time and gazes at the snow)
and the main Narnia theme...its the one heard several times during the battles, or during dramatic moments that involve a lot of the Narnians. I think its first played in the series the second Peter, Susan, and Lucy emerge from the water after the waterfall crashed on them. Do you guys know what I'm talking about?
