It's a shame RelientK weren't asked to do any songs. (Not that I listened/watched the songs.) I really like their band though!

Most of you guys seem really positive about David Arnold, I have to say I'm not. I'm interested yet apprehensive about what he does with the themes. In my opinion he has to keep them, it would be strange if he ditched them. As long as they are in there and keep cropping up he can do what he likes with it making it sound sealike (maybe like Pirates though not much.) The only thing I really know David from is Amazing Grace and the music never stuck out for me in that. I can't remember it all. Really unnoticeable. Whereas the Narnia music is so easily remembered even before I was even into Narnia in a big way I reckon I could've recognised it. So hopefully he just builds on what Harry did. (Love you Harry! ;) - he made a cute squirrel too.) Another reason I miss Harry is merely because I dislike change, especially in movies because it can really ruin the continuity which I suppose is mainly what I'm worried about with the music. I enjoyed the PC music too, just to throw that out there, I felt it was different majorly to LWW and I could easily guess which was from what if listening to the music.

Either way, I will still buy the VDT soundtrack :) (and probably like it despite my fears. ;) :D ) Hope it comes out soon (though I suppose I'll have to wait a few months.) ;)

I think they should add mostly new music, and the only thing I would have them reuse (and with it being played by a different instrument or voices) is the main Narnia theme.

Thanks Glenstorm! I'm glad I'm not alone in this. Because most of you seemed really positive about the change. I agree with you too Josh but I don't think it should be mostly new music just different pieces here and there, bits that compliment the Narnia theme. If he does anything to the main themes though, I will be annoyed and it will totally wreck the continuity and possibly how I view the movie (because I tend to quite notice soundtracks).

^^yes I would be upset with him if he changed the theme- put it in a different key, rearranged the notes, added new ones. I don't mind some new music, in fact I'm looking forward to it, but I want the same feel to the music. And for it to be very Narnia-souding and recognizable.

So, I was listening to the Kingdom of Heaven soundtrack today (which was composed by Harry Gregson-Williams), and I noticed a few points which sounded very, very similar to parts of the Narnia score, specifically LWW. For instance, there's a short segment of music that plays right after the character Sibylla is first introduced, and it sounds nearly identical to the beginning part of "Only the Beginning of the Adventure". Also, there's certain parts that sound close to "The Battle". It was subtle enough that someone who casually watched both movies wouldn't notice, but for me (I've listened to the Narnia soundtrack several hundred times :p ) it jumped out at me. Anyone else notice this before? It's really quite cool, kind of like a musical 'signature' that Gregson-Williams put in both movies.

Yes, I believe that's popularly known as plagiarizing yourself and Harry Gregson-Williams does it constantly. :P

I really don't have a problem with people doing that - I've picked it up before with other composers but never Harry. E.g. has anyone ever found similarities between the Shrek soundtrack and Narnia? Hmm, I don't think so. I don't think they do it all the time. As for the other composer, it was Trevor Rabin (National Treasure, Race to Witch Mountain) and I noticed similarities in those two movies but I don't care because the soundtracks stood out enough that I actually noticed them, which never happened when I watched Amazing Grace, but it does with Narnia. So, I'm a tad apprehensive, but all you guys reckon he's really good so I'm sure he'll do it good. I just hope it doesn't feel like they've tried to make the movie have continuity by using cellotape and glue as it were - they have to meld it together really well so the change of composer is unnoticeable. That's really what I want and expect! (Tough, eh? I wouldn't want to be David right now! =)) ) ;)

IMO, Chronicles of Narnia has already developed its own musical identity, so VDT will need to have some similar music to continue continuity, but adding a few new tracks would be fine.

I'm glad they got a different composer this time, though. I didn't think it was so great the sound track between Prince Caspian and LWW were so similar.

I don't know, I kind of liked the similarity. But I am very excited about what David Arnold will bring; VDT has a very different feel from the other books and I think the movie soundtrack should reflect that, while still retaining some common motifs.

By the way, welcome to Narniaweb, Gathmandais!

Well, I can understand how the similarities could be good because the two movies are rather related. My hopes are hight for VDT, though.

The music in LWW and PC was soooooooooo good. I really hope that the music in the VDT will sound similar to the earlier movies.

musical artist Chris Rice wrote a song called "Nonny Nonny" and in it he mentions the Pevensies and Aslan! I love it! here's a link to the song:
