I really wish people would stop ridiculing Carrie Underwood’s “There’s a place for us.” I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I love the song. I don’t like country that much, but this song doesn’t sound country to me. I admit, it’s not as good as “Wunderkind,” “The Call,” or “This is Home” – the only songs I like for LWW and PC. Yet none of them made me cry. Carrie’s song makes me cry almost every time I hear it. And I’ve been hearing it in my head often for the last few weeks. I think the lyrics fit the movie. And the song is really for Ed and Lu. They’re the only Pevensie kings and queens in Dawn Treader. Caspian is also a king, but he doesn’t have to adjust to a non-Narnian world. Ed and Lu do. And “there’s a place for” them outside Narnia. They learn to adjust to life in England – permanently. I think the same can be said for the actors who play them. Skandar and Georgie will have to adjust to real life after Narnia. “There’s a place for” them in this world as well.

I have yet to listen to Arnold's soundtrack [or the international songs for DT]. Will I ever find the time? I don't know....

At first I didn't like There's a Place for Us, but when I heard Instintly, the Russian credits song, I realised that There's a Place for Us isn't that bad. I like it now :)

I have loved all three of the newer movies sound tracks. I listen to them while I am at work. I actually get way more work done while they are playing. Kinda funny actually.

I thought "There's a Place for Us" was just okay. :| It kind of fits with the theme of the movie, and it's not obnoxious or distracting, but it didn't seem exciting or inspired either. It's a million times better than "The Call," though. I think maybe if Alison Krauss had been singing that song after the end of the movie, I wouldn't have minded so much. The lyrics certainly work, but to have Regina Spektor's lifeless, off-key singing playing over the farewell scene completely ruined the moment for me. %-( I loved "Can't Take It In" from the end of LWW. Not so much as a stand-alone song, but as part of the end of the movie, it worked perfectly. :-bd

I liked "There's a Place for Us". I don't think it is a cheesy song at all. The lyrics really fit well with the movie theme as Anhun said. I do also like the melody and Carrie Underwood's performance. Sad it didn't make the final list of Oscar nominees and wasn't included on the soundtrack.

I agree, There's A Place for Us was perfect for the movie. You really felt what they were feeling while Carrie sang it.

It was a really beautiful song that really complemented the film. It also had a mood that reflected the emotions of characters at the end of VDT, much like Regina Spektor's 'The Call' did with PC...
Also, i loved Carrie Underwoods song 'ever after' for Enchanted, so i was confident that this song was going to be good. She is just a very telented singer! :)
Why wasn't it included on the soundtrack???

^^ I am wondering the same thing! :P
I was like, "Ooh, cool soundtrack.....where's Carrie Underwood?"

my best guess is they didn't include the song because there were so many versions and all by different artists and also there were some songs that we didn't get here in the USA.....

I hadn't realized that they didn't include "There's a Place for Us" in the soundtrack. Boo.

Did anyone else notice how music from VotDT resembled Danny Elfman music?

You're not the only one. That was the first thing I thought when I listened to the soundtrack clips.

Anhun, I can't believe you described Regina Spektor's style of singing as "lifeless and off-key". She's quirky, sure but also extremely talented and hugely unconventional. Not everyone likes that unique flavour and that's okay but her music is full of passion, poetic weirdness and quality singing.

Yeah...Regina Spektor is pretty cool and the Call was an amazing and very relevent song. I can see why her music isn't for everyone though-it is very unique and not everyone likes the style! I do.

I have found the VotDT soundtrack to be quite addicting! :D it's so epic and my favorite tracks are "Into Battle" and "The Painting"! :D :D

I generally don't approve of adding pop songs (or anything like them) at the end of action/fantasy films. "There's A Place for Us" wasn't a bad song, it just didn't seem right to use it at the end of a Narnia movie. At least "Can't Take It In" and "The Call" were mostly orchestral in the background.

As for the score itself, I disliked it. I don't care for David Arnold's take on the music, but my real pet peeve is the HUGE lack of the themes from the last two films. Only one theme, used mistakenly, was brought over into VDT, and only used three times in the entire score. Harry Potter anyone? Because of the music, this movie felt extremely disconnected from the previous ones.

"There's a Place for us": I like the song, period. I listened to the song playlist on AC's YouTube channel yesterday. And I really only like Carrie Underwood's version. The others are so-so. Probably EMD or Sonohra are tied for 2nd.

Other international DT songs: I like Renuhma [India] and Instantly [Russia] the best.

EDIT: I just listened to McElderry's "Someone wake me up." I didn't expect to like the song, but I do! But I really don't like his version of "There's a place for us"...

Well HGW only allowed Arnold to use one theme. My biggest issue with Arnold's music is that it didn't serve the same function as HGW's. HGW had some character-themes, but, for the most part his music expressed the feelings and impressions of the characters at a given moment. It served as an emotional narration, helping us feel with the characters. Arnold's music reminded me more of Pirates of the Carribean, drawing us into the (admittedly breathtaking) setting, but not the characters.
