my sister and I were talking about the Magician's Island scene in VotDT movie and as we talked about it, it occurred to me that Reepicheep isn't on the island in that whole scene. :-
he's no where to be seen. this didn't ruin the scene for me, but it's weird because on all the other islands, Reepicheep is poised at the prow of the landing boats, eager to see what lies ahead, and then on the Magician's Island, he's not even with the crew when they sleep on the beach..... :P
:D

He may still be there. He is just not shown. I do not think it detracts from the plot. Although it would have been fun to see Reepicheep argue with one of the Dufflepods.

He isn't there? I didn't notice. It doesn't surprise me though. They really left Reep out of a lot in the movie. He probably would have heard the thumping of the Dufflepods and alert the others, thus they couldn't have him there. :p

I read or heard somewhere about Apted insisting on a particular scene with Reepicheep and the Dragon (don't remember what sort of scene exactly) and then told it would be expensive...and then he finally got the scene he wanted in.....I don't remember where I read or heard that, but maybe they were trying to cut down on how many places Reep needed to really show up? If they cut Reep's screentime down to reduce budget costs, that's sad. :( He's an amusing character to watch, one of the draws of the movie.

I must say that I found Reepicheep was put into a lot of the movie. Considering that he was rather expensive to animate, I think Michael Apted succeeded rather well in having him featured in the movie as often as possible. It really added to his character being noble and someone who doesn't give up very easily.

Finally, a scene without Reepicheep! :D But it was bad enough with Coriakin.

I found Reepicheep extremely aggravating and generally unbearable. He had, next to Coriakin, the worst dialogue. "Onward ho!" "Yoo-hoo!" "I heard that!" "Period! Exclamation Mark!" etc etc.

He was Pull-The-String-To-Hear-Me-Annoy-You Toy Reepicheep.

They did give Reep cheesier cliche expressions than how he sounds in the book. But then they had to make him easily understandable to the little kids in the audience. 8-|

I thought Reepicheep was pretty much in every other scene in the movie other than this one. That being said, I, too agree that he is probably there, just not shown. (The audience is meant to believe he is with then, and is just not involved in anything that is important enough to show). :)

What a great example of how much Reepicheep's importance to the story was thrown out. He disappeared for a large part of the movie and we didn't even notice.

He was Pull-The-String-To-Hear-Him-Annony-You Toy Reepicheep.

Which says it all, I suppose. And we all thought they re-cast Reep because they wanted to take a more serious approach to the character...

I liked Reep in VDT! I thought he was awesome. And his screen time reflected how much he was actually in the book. Reep was passable, but not memorable (IMO) in Prince Caspian. In retrospect, I'm glad he was recast.

I really don't think it made an inch of difference that he was recast. If Eddie Izzard had read the same lines as Simon Pegg, what would have been the difference as to Reepicheep's character as the scriptwriters wrote it?

I personally thought it was a huge difference; nevermind the positive scriptwriter changes.. I thought Simon just sounded more regal; don't think Eddie could have pulled it off.

Fair enough. Personally, I hardly noticed the voice change.

Yeah- how many times did I cring at those lines...It was nothing like what Reeepicheep was like in PC. He turned from a sensible and very serious honourable Mouse warrior thing to the laughable won't-shut-up mouse that just came out with cheese (Ironicly)

It was a mericle to finally have a scene without him, especially with the dufflepuds jumping around and being irritating in that bit as well (I did like them, they were just the antagonists for that bit hence = Irritating!)

Narnia is childhood...

Seriously, just give the kid the orange. He needs his vitamin C!
