I know what you mean. I used to call it "The Titanic Effect" because it seemed that back in '97 the only reason that people were going to see Titanic was because everyone else was going to see Titanic. I went and was throughouly bored by the movie and I wish I hadn't gone. :( Lesson learned. Now I only see movies that I'm interested in... well, unless my sister drags me along to a movie *coughprinceofpersiacough*.

Actually i think the reason Titanic did well is because of word of mouth. If I remember, it wasnt expected to do well. But then people saw it, gave it good reviews, and then everyone became interested. Not everyone liked it of course (you being an example), but many did (especially the teenage girls obsessed with Leonardo DiCaprio). And it was advertized as a movie that HAD to be seen. The special effects were really impressive for the time. It was the most expensive movie made. It was something that HAD to be seen on the big screen (reminds me of our AVATAR situation a few months ago, which oddly enough was made by the same director as Titanic).

Now I know VotDT's budget isnt as big as Titanic's. BUT, if the film does get good word of mouth, and it proves to be a good film for everyone-not just kids- I can see it having the Titanic effect in the sense that it surprises teh audience's expectations and does really well at box office.

LWW did get good word of mouth and it did pretty good. PC got mixed reviews and its boxoffice return was underwhelming as a result.

Bottom Line- Word of Mouth with make or break a film's success.

Which is why I hope Toy Story 3 does well. If we want people to see this trailer, they are going to need to see this movie.

I'm still going to wait until midnight Friday when I see it on the big screen. It's only 12 more hours. I'll find something to do to keep myself busy... like watch Toy Story 1 & 2.

I'll most likely see it online first. I'm not sure if we'll be going to see Toy Story 3... it would be really nice, but we probably won't before the trailer shows up online. Oh well, I'm just so excited to see it! :D

I'm still going to watch the trailer first online. I always check my email in mornings, afternoons, and evenings before going to bed so I'll be online and I can't resist to ignore doing so. I will also see it when I see Toy Story 3 :D

Found some interesting information online which states that the trailer is going to have a running time of 2:01.

On the government film ratings site for Alberta Canada, they have a list of recently classified trailers and commercials. As well as the ratings that have been assigned to each trailer, it also states the run time for them. Apparently the VDT trailer was awarded a "G" rating a few days ago, and the trailer length is 2 minutes, 1 second.

Title
Chronicles Of Narnia, The: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader (trailer #1)
Ratings
G
Date
06/10/2010
Running Time
2:01
Distributor
20th Century Fox

*the date listed being the date on which the rating was given, not the release date of the trailer itself.

http://www.albertafilmratings.ca/recent ... ilers.aspx

The first trailers for the last two films were both around 2:30 in length, so 2:01 seems a little bit short, especially when you consider some of that run time will be taken up by the studio logos, title card, credit screen, etc. But given how little official material 20th Century Fox have released for the movie so far it does not surprise me in the slightest.

That just means the trailer is rated G right and not the film?

So what was the Prince Caspian trailer rated?

2:01 seems like a good running time to me. I was expecting something about the length of the second Prince Caspian trailer which was only a minute and a half, so this is good news.

This is only 22 seconds shorter than the first LWW trailer which was 2 minutes and 23 seconds.

Check out "The Magician's Nephew" and "The Last Battle" trailers I created!

Correct. :)

So what was the Prince Caspian trailer rated?

Absolutely no idea what the directly comparable Canadian rating for the PC trailer was, but the American trailer had the standard "Approved for All Audiences" rating card before it, so i'd imagine its more or less the same.

Good. Thank you. I am really looking forward to this trailer. Only a few days away now. It is going to be a long week.

Toy Story 3 is a really good choice! Most of my friends I've talked told, who are excited about the trailer, said they were going to see TS3 anyway. Excellent target audience!
