2. WHY can't we "see" black holes? Because no light can escape from it, meaning the light can't bounce off of it back to our eyes, which means we can't see it.

2) WHY is caffeine addictive?
It's a lot like anything else that's addictive - because your brain adjusts your bodily processes to account for levels of caffeine if you regularly ingest it. When you don't have any for a while, your body has to re-adjust to being without it, which causes the caffeine headaches and such.
(weird coincidence, we JUST studied an entire chapter on caffeine in my Drugs and Behavior class last week)

2. WHY are chameleons able to change color?
Each chameleon species has its own color range. They can't just turn any color. Chameleons can change their color because of a very complex cell system. Beneath it's transparent skin are several cell layers which contain pigments. We also have pigments which cause our skin to darken in the sun. By opening and closing cells called melanophores, chameleons change their skin color. The cells direct sun to specific pigments which reflects the light back in different colors.

WHY did people start dying cheese orange/yellow?
Because orange cheese already has a light color and historically, the deeper the color, the better the cheese. So the cheese makers began adding an orange dye to sell more cheese! (That last part is my opinion!)

3. WHEN is the next transit of Venus across the sun?

WHY is our blood red even though the veins look blue?
When light hits the skin, only the blue light waves can penetrate to the veins and be reflected back so we see blue instead of the dark red that the blood is.
