Do you like the idea of Elijah Wood as Rilian? Hmm... yeah, I do. I think he would be great. One bad thing about it is people are already accusing Narnia of "trying to copy" LOTR, so if they get a LOTR actor, then the accusations will soar...

Hmm...that would be bad...glad to find someone who likes the idea! :D

*waves back to Elanor* Lovely user name by the way. :)

And hello to everyone else. Liberty, I recognize your name, other than that I'm afraid I don't know anyone here... but I'd like to fix that!

KingLune I really have never heard of Weetabix before! *in best Spock voice* --> Fascinating.

I must be the only person who doesn't like the idea of Elijah Woods as Rilian for reasons other than the fact he's practically become Frodo and would cause unwanted associations between Narnia and Middle Earth. Well if it makes everyone else happy, I'll get over it. :)

Yep, I'm not familiar with the period etiquette of Jane Austin's time so that didn't bother me a bit. They all SEEMED to have good propriety (at least the characters that were supposed to did. Lydia and Kitty... not so much.)

I've compiled a list somewhere, but I can't remember everything about it. First off, all those young unmarried women running around unbonneted ... never would have happened. Lizzie does this as much as Lydia and Kitty; only Jane is properly dressed throughout. And the scene where she walks to Netherfield: ridiculous! She did get the bottom of her dress dirty in the book, but she would never have worn her hair down. And Bingley peeking into Jane's sick room? Lady Catherine visiting in the middle of the night? Phooey!

To be fair, these problems are not unique to that adaptation. Every major Austen film since 1998 has had huge gaps in terms of the filmmaker's knowledge of the period. Of course, there were some modern touches to the mid-'90s adaptations too, but overall they were much more conservative, while still being quite lively.

[/geek (or is it nerd?) rant]

*waves to The Epic One* Have they delivered your biscuits yet?

Yes indeed. And they were delicious. :p

he doesn't work for a kidnapped prince who has to come across as mysterious and slightly insane at times. (I'd vote for Nathan Fillion if he wasn't way too old. Hee hee. :p )

Or too American. ;) This is another reason why Wood will never be cast as Rillian: while the LotR films cast quite a bundle of American actors and had them "fake" British accents, the producers of the Narnia films seem to be dead set against this. Believe me, Lucy, the Prince will be played by a British actor (maaaybe Kiwi or Aussie, but even that seems doubtful).

Glad things ended up less awkward with the college friend, Elanor. :)

*wonders if The Rose-Tree Dryad was watching the Screen Director's Playhouse episodes on TCM last night* There was one that featured Errol Flynn, which made me think of her. He was quite a bit older than I was used to seeing him, which made things very odd. ;)) My favorite episodes were two of the thrillers -- one with Peter Lorre and Teresa Wright (gosh, how I love her -- brilliant actress!) and another based on a story by Robert Louis Stevenson, starring Ray Milland.

I've started school up now. Only Tuesday/Thursday classes for me, plus an online course. The last was added when a Monday-only class failed to make. I have all my books purchased but one, and I'll get that tomorrow morning. It's going to be quite a nice schedule, my crazy Tuesdays excepted. I work Wednesday and Saturday, and may try to volunteer at a local ministry either Monday or Friday.

Mortereve all!

Yay! :) Oh, that's awesome. You lucky. :P I really want to see the movies . . so badly . . Everybody loves them!!
I understand - I do loads of reading, so I could never list everything I've been reading lately! But a lot is for school, too. :) Oh - that was pretty interesting! :P

Aw, you haven't seen them? That's a shame, they're really good! Obviously, I'm not sure if they're good adaptions or not, since I haven't finished the books, but they're definitely great movies. And speaking of movies, I suppose we'll switch to those now? Again, I don't really watch a lot of movies. I'd have to say my favorites are the National Treasure movies. I also enjoy Pixar's stuff. If TV shows count, I love the BBC Robin Hood. We also watch a lot of old TV shows like Andy Griffith and Perry Mason.

Good to see ya, too! I'm pretty good, actually, and you?

Glad to hear that! I'm fine. Life's busy, as usual, but going well!

Hey, cep, good to see you! It's been ages since I've seen most of those people you mentioned, but, as you said, people come, people go, and that's Ditto Town. But it's always fun to reminisce.

Ya, that it is :)
So why do some people call you Aiden?

Heh, that's kind of an interesting story. Back when narnialover101 frequented the Square, I didn't really have any nicknames, and I had said that he could call me anything he wanted. Well, he liked the name Aiden, so he decided to call me that, and it stuck! I've been called that ever since. :)

My Christmas was lovely, how about yours? Despite being snow-less, it was a very enjoyable time. I loved hanging out with family, and all my awesome presents were a bonus. :D How about you?
We finished Season 3. It was annoying. Although, if they HAD to do what they did, I loved the way they did it.

Spoiler
Marian was a nice touch.
But
Spoiler
Allan, oh my goodness. NO! That was just dumb.

That's great! Ah, too bad you didn't have any snow. We'd just had a snowstorm, so we had our share. Do you have any snow now?
Yes, I love hanging out with family, especially the ones we don't get to see very often.
About Marian

Spoiler
as I recall, she shows up in a dream that Robin has, right?
I thought that was rather odd. And
Spoiler
how does Allan die?

Mortereve all!

Rehearsal, rehearsal, rehearsal . . :p And lots of it! But it's getting quite fun, I like the people, and I enjoy my part. That's my little two bits.

How are you?

Hey, sister Lia!! I'm doing very good - hardly tired at all, and happily busy. And I've got even better knowing you're related to me! :p *hugs* How about you?

Do I see Weetabix? Yummy . . I love those. How do you like eating them, KingLune? I like them with jam, toasted. :)

Lovely user name by the way.

Thanks so much!! Yours is gorgeous too! Where did you get it?

Glad things ended up less awkward with the college friend, Elanor. :)

Me too! :) Thanks.

I know - it's really sad, and I'd really like to see them. I have the feeling they'd be my favorite movies. :) haha, of course.
Oh, awesome! I love the NT movies, despite any criticism I hear (:P) and I also love all of Pixar. Have you seen Toy Story 3, and Up? They're my favorite animated kids movies.
haha - everyone is mentioning the BBC Robin Hood, or something else that has to do with Richard Armitage. What a coincidence . . :D :D :D :D
Sorry - just watched my new fave movie, North and South. Yow!! It's amazing!!
And I love Prince Caspian, Taking Chance, Ever After, Howls Moving Castle . . P&P (the new one), S&S, War and Peace, the one's I mentioned above . . . yeah. :)

See? Square. ;))

Just finished up midterm exams - thank goodness! Now I have time to do things! Like draw and write! I spent all day yesterday working on a picture of Puddleglum - it's up in the Fan Art forum, if anyone wants to see.

I'm going to write this afternoon - take care, everyone! :)

Yooowhoooo! all the SquareOnions with a ferociously generous hobbit hug*

Good to see Aravanna and cep here again! :D I spy some new faces to the Square, also, 'though not new to the forum.

*waves to Elanor and Lucy of Narnia also* ... and to those on the previous pages, who I'm not going to all through and name, lazy soul that I am. :P

Wooot, the Royal King and Lady have made appearances too! :D/ You keeping them in line, PrinceCor? ;)

Heehee, Silver the Wanderer, those are fun-looking Square Cuppycakes. ;))

Vern, it's a tad cold here today, feeling like -16C/3.2F, so could you light a fire in the big stone fireplace, s'il vous plaît? I love being outside, and it's so pretty to have a roaring blaze going nearby. As a thank you, I offer this very attractive school of fish. 'Cept they almost make one's eyes go a bit 8-} , no? ;))

Liberty, I've seen Voyage three times, and find it hard to love. I'm totally puzzled why they would want to change such a marvelous original tale. :- It's beyond me. Fun movie, but so much of it isn't Lewis' story. *weeps*

Oh yeah, it was nl101 who began the name "Aidan" for you, NN. I'd forgotten that. I miss Robby here. Ah, people come; people go, as a well-loved NWebber reminds us.

lys, your schedule looks to be a nice variety. And I like the idea of volunteering at a ministry!

I must be the only person who doesn't like the idea of Elijah Woods as Rilian for reasons other than the fact he's practically become Frodo and would cause unwanted associations between Narnia and Middle Earth. Well if it makes everyone else happy, I'll get over it. :)

Ditto. High Ditto. Elijah will always be "Frodo", especially as he is now confirmed to be in The Hobbit. I would not want him as Rilian. (You may get over it, Ara, but I don't think I would. :P)

Well, I finally gave in and joined The Cloud Appreciation Society. I've been wanting to for awhile now, if only to receive the certificate that states how much I love looking up at the sky. In fact, I even find myself tripping from time-to-time, because I'm so intent on the beauty above me. :p As the main page says, "we are tired hearing people moaning about clouds" and want to fight "the banality of ‘blue-sky thinking’ ". ;))

But, I must clarify: give me a variety of clouds during the day, but, please, *clear skies* at night for star-gazing. (*) Once in awhile, clouds are exceptionally cool at night, though, especially when the moon is reaching full. The light it casts in amongst the clouds can be eerily gorgeous. But my first preference is a crystal clear dark sky for the joy of beholding celestial sights.

Mmmm, the last few days have been rather nice. Day before last we had lovely weather—very sunny and almost warm, and we went to the park twice. It was so quiet it was almost eerie (I heard the rustling of exactly one agitated squirrel and snatches of birdsong only now and then; the only constant sounds were the wind on the lake and sighing of the trees), but it was very nice all the same. Felt so good to get out among nature after being cooped up for so long!

Haven't yet missed a day on writing in my journal, though one day I almost forgot. I woke up in the middle of the night with a start, gasped "I didn't write in my journal!" and forced myself to get up and scribble in an entry so I wouldn't hate myself in the morning. ;)) (Yes, I know I had already technically missed the day, but I write most of my entries after midnight anyway. :P)

I don't think I've grown out of my obsession with horses either, though it hasn't developed into the career or fabulous riding skills as seems to happen to heroines in the horse stories. It's not quite fair... I ought to be a famous endurance rider or something by now. ;))

Haha, I know what you mean! ;)) When I was younger, I was quite sure my undying love for equines would either propel me to blue ribbons in show jumping championships, domination in eventing, racing glory as a jockey, or possibly all three. ;) (Never mind that the only time I'd ever galloped on a horse was when a hyper little dog had spooked it, and I only just stayed on. =)))

Being possessed of one of those myself, I can assure you that it if you paid for such a document, you would find yourself wishing you'd spent the money on something else! Still, it is quite nice to have when you want to look up when something happened. ;))

Probably true. ;)) Chances are I wouldn't be able to read it anyway, because I had trouble with mild dyslexia back then and was forever flipping my letters back to front. :P

*Is very scarred, mentally and emotionally, from her terrifying encounter with the Ketchup* =)) Why? Why did I have to look?! ~x( :))

*Can't answer Lucy of Narnia's LoTR questionnaire, because she hasn't read the books or seen the movies* :(( Working on fixing that. ;)

*Ears perk at Miss Rosa and Ben's bird discussion* I loves herons! Great blue herons especially. I see them all the time in the summer. I live in an apartment, but it overlooks a lake and there's a marsh nearby, and I'll see a heron out fishing nearly every day in the warm months. The wingspan of a full grown one can be seven feet, and it's always incredible to see them flying. They're so beautiful!

You're welcome! ;) It's always fun to have new people join us! Do you have a nickname?

'Ello! How are you? BTW, have you got a nickname I can call you?

I knew when I picked this username that I'd get this question a lot. ;))

A lot of people on here call me Rose, as well as Dryad and RTD. Tree seems to be catching on a little in NW Chat. ;)) Oh, and my real name is Elizabeth, which probably has a thousand nicknames and variants, and I'll answer to nearly all of them excepting Liz or Lizzie. :P No running out of nicknames for me. ;))

Hello Wolfy! Those are lovely cookies and brownies! :D

And on top of everything, yesterday I almost killed my internet (fortunately I was able to fix it) and today...somehow... a wren got into our kitchen! (Fortunately my dad got him out)

Oh my goodness! Maybe he caught a whiff of those cookies and brownies you were baking, and hoped he could swipe a crumb. ;)

I really miss the old TV Land -- I Love Lucy, Andy Griffith, even an occasional Get Smart. There's still a fair bit of Andy Griffith, but it's just no the same anymore.

Oh, I know. They used to have such great programming; we probably watched it every evening on weekdays. Mystifying to me why the folks at TV Land think people don't want to see those shows anymore.

I found a theater not too far away that shows some older films, but they don't seem to be showing anything I'm interested in seeing. I think I'll have to call them up and make some suggestions. :P

*Waves to Ceppault and Gorse* :-h It's strange reading those names, because I recognize nearly all of them. Though I only joined last year, I've been reading the forum off and on since 2005 (I know, I know—what took me so long ), and names stick in my brain. ;))

*Waves to Aravanna* Your avatar and signature are so pretty!! :)

Haha, yes. I'd keel over in sheer shock too. Stranger things have happened! Were you a monk for LWW and/or PC too?

Hmm, good question. I don't think I gobbled up spoilers too much before LWW came out, though I remember I saw some clips (the Lucy meeting Tumnus scene in particular—still mad with myself that I spoiled that for myself! ;))) and that taught me my lesson. I was much more wary of the dreaded spoiler while awaiting PC, and even more so for VDT, though one can happen upon them unawares sometimes. :( Thankfully, finally being on the forum and being able to take refuge in the Monastery was extremely helpful. ;)

That was quite a catchup, Mountie! ;))

I've always been hoping they'd bring someone home - but not this person!! :p :p But by the last night (of course. X( ) we were a lot more comfortable with him, and we sat around laughing hysterically.

Why does that always happen on the last night? It must be one of the unwritten rules of life. =))

*Waves to Lia* I know how it is, not having time to tackle the beast that is Catchup. ;) I sometimes write them in bits and save them as drafts until I've got the whole thing done. Very useful feature, for someone as scatterbrained as I. ;))

*Waves to Ithie, even though she talks to her all the time on chat* ;))

In other news, OWL CITY DOES CHRISTIAN SONGS!!!!

... re=related I did not know that and it makes me happy. :D

Oooh, I didn't know that either! :D That's a beautiful version.

Darn, I missed those! I think we were watching A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court with Bing Crosby that night (not bad, but we thought the 1931 version with Will Rogers was funnier.) Have got to stop spacing out when I'm going through the guide to record what looks promising; I keep missing gems. ;))

I saw a clip of an older Errol Flynn on What's My Line (love that old show), and was surprised at how different he looked! I'm always a bit startled whenever I see film or photographs of a star after they've aged, and I'm accustomed to seeing them in their prime—one of those, "Oh my, what's happened to you? You looked so well when I saw you last!" kinds of moments. ;))

Hmph, especially sorry to miss the one with Peter Lorre. I don't think I've ever seen any of Teresa Wright's films, although looking at her imdb page she's been in several I'd like to see. Which would you say were her best roles?

Ah, Ray Milland. I've seen him in a couple light romantic comedies from the early 40's recently and enjoyed them, but I've had some trouble warming up to him very much after seeing him in Dial M for Murder a couple of months ago. ;)) Found him thoroughly unnerving in that role. In a good way, but still. :P

And I love Prince Caspian, Taking Chance, Ever After, Howls Moving Castle . .

I like Howl's Moving Castle, too! It's a bit odd (not surprising, considering it's anime) and I like the book better, but it's a lovely film and has a beautiful soundtrack. I love "Stroll Through the Sky"! Oh, and Lauren Bacall voices the Witch of the Waste. That automatically gives it "cool" points. ;))

*Waves at Silver* :D My, those squarular (that's one of my favorite made-up words :P) cupcakes are delightful! They have an almond on top, and nuts are nutritious; that makes them healthy, right? ;))

(Oh! And one quick question. If I were to start a Pixar club on NarniaWeb, would anyone want to join? :P )

*Raises her hand eagerly, rather like Hermione Granger when she has the answer to a teacher's question* :P

*Waves to Libby* I hope you enjoyed your fourth viewing of VDT yesterday! :)

Well, I finally gave in and joined The Cloud Appreciation Society.

There is such a thing? :-o Oooh, I think I'll have to get me one of those certificates too. ;)) I love clouds. I adore clear blue skies, but my favorite days are when there are equal parts blue and fluffy white splendor. One of my favorite fantasies is to go hiking on the fields and hills and mountains of the clouds.

Day before yesterday when I was at the park and standing on the dock by the boathouse, a cloud went in front of the sun and its edges were positively ablaze with gold. It was one of those take-your-breath-away, why-on-earth-didn't-I-bring-my-camera moments. ;))

Sorry - just watched my new fave movie, North and South. Yow!! It's amazing!!

I want to watch that. But I refuse to do so until I read the book. Unfortunately, that's the case with many, many movies/miniseries, and I have a terribly long reading list.... 8-}

(You may get over it, Ara, but I don't think I would. :P)

Oh, I could get over it. If that were the only thing "wrong" with the film. If, say, it is a lot closer to the source material than the last two films, then I would easily be able to forgive a little miscasting here and there.

I don't think I've ever seen any of Teresa Wright's films, although looking at her imdb page she's been in several I'd like to see. Which would you say were her best roles?

Hmmm, good question. A lot of people seem to love her in The Pride of the Yankees and The Best Years of Our Lives, but I tried watching large segments of both and really didn't take to either. Not exactly sure why. And while I personally think one of her best performances (as well as one of Judith Anderson's) is to be found in Pursued, overall I cannot recommend the movie, as the subject matter is quite disturbing.

My top recommendation, I think, would be Shadow of a Doubt, Alfred Hitchcock's favorite of his own films. And you should definitely watch Mrs. Miniver, partially because Wright won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for it, and partially because it's just a good film in general. If you ever catch the Alfred Hitchcock Hour episode "Lonely Place" on TV, watch that as well. It's also fun to see her in her very last film, The Rainmaker starring Matt Damon.

Which of hers were you interested in?

The Pride of the Yankees, Mrs. Miniver, The Best Years of Our Lives, and Shadow of a Doubt. Films I've been meaning to see for a while, just haven't gotten around to it.

I'll have to ask my brother about that Hitchcock Hour episode, he's watched a ton of that show and I'll bet he's seen it. He has a very bad habit of turning it on late at night about the time when I have to go to bed, and then I can't sleep because I'm wondering how the episode ended. /:)

Hullo, everyone! :)
Last night, I wrote in my diary "Tonight I'm going to stay up until Tomorrow, for no reason at all". I did. :) It was fun, and I had trouble going to sleep, because I was so interested in my book (Persuasion). I love doing things like that!
And we have Betsie at our house. Which is nice. Of course.

It's such an amazing movie!! Have you read the book? It's also amazing, and you have to be good at being able to watch a movie adaption that isn't at all like the book, and still appreciating it, to appreciate it. :p It is a bit odd. I agree. And the music is amazing! And I fell completely in love with Christian Bale's voice. :)

Why does that always happen on the last night? It must be one of the unwritten rules of life. =))

I know!! That stinks! But at least we had one fun night. :p

I want to watch that. But I refuse to do so until I read the book.

Oh, won't you watch it now? It's so amazing, and you'll like it more if you watch it before reading the book! Of course, then you won't be able to like the book as much (I've sworn never to read it . . :P), but - the movie is worth it!! PLEASE!!!!

*tiptoes cautiously into the square, wondering where time has gone*

Much has changed...much is still the same.

Don't mind me, I'm in a funny mood today...;))

Anyway...we've been watching tons of The Waltons lately. We're almost to the season where Mary Ellen has her baby. He's so cute! These are new to me, we've seen through season 5...

Anyway...

*waves to all, then sits in corner of square to think*

*edit* Weird post, isn't it? ;))

Good mortereve, all! I know I dropped off the planet for a little while there, but school has been keeping me busy. I'm still trying to catch up on all the tests I missed while sick, and that has been stressful. Anyway. I thought I should come and catch up before too many pages go by.

I've been doing all right, Winter. The past two weeks were rough, so the weekend is certainly a relief! What about you? It sounds like you have been busy.

Heh, that's ok. *waves back* How have you been?

Meh. Keeping busy with school. What about you? Have you been getting any more snow lately?

I hope your sister feels better, Elanor! I've never broken any bone before, much less my collar bone, but I can imagine how painful it must be. I've had several skiing accidents myself... the majority of which involved trees. ;)) Were you guys downhill or cross-country skiing?

Hm, I can't really remember if it was white or not. If so, just barely by an inch or two! Our Christmas was all right as well; same as you basically. Though more "friend issues" for me. And there was just about the biggest argument my brothers have had in months over a card game. Oh man; at least we can kind of laugh about it now. And feel bad because it was stupid. Thankfully, that only lasted about 10 minutes. We were all sick and short on sleep.
So all in all, not the best Christmas, but... it was okay. The card game argument makes me laugh somewhat now. And I'm so thankful that our big arguments are... smaller then they could be. I'm really thankful for my family, and I'm glad God has blessed us by sanctifying us so we don't fight more often and a lot worse.
/kind-of-ramble"

I'm sorry to hear about the friend issues - those are always hard. I've never had a great relationship with my family, so it wasn't much of a surprise to have problems over the holiday (though it still made Christmas rough), but it's always very difficult for me when I have trouble with my friends. They mean so much to me. If you ever need to talk about it, feel free to PM me! I hope everything works out for you, if it hasn't already.

It's funny how arguments can arise from the smallest things, isn't it? :p When I was younger, my sister and I would fight over everything. I guess small arguments are usually the best, though. They blow over quickly.

She seems to be serving a lot of root beer.... root beer soup.... root beer bread... root beer battered onion rings....

I first read that as ".... root beer soap..." My, the Royal Family is getting desperate! ;) I need to read slower I guess.

Miss RosOreo? Hmm... well, that's a new one. Good to see you Mr. Lune. :) And dear me about Horsie! I hope the glue factory ordeal didn't scar him too terribly. Perhaps he will consent to a visit after the mane and tail... uh.... recover from Vern's treatment. ;)

Weetabix. Yum. :D We used to buy that all the time before the grocery store stopped carrying it.

The next time your mom drops by, Cor, I'm half expecting her to chop the entire chocolate tree down and and have Vern carry it away to the castle for her.

Hurray for the school cancelations! Didn't you get the entire first week off? Or something like that?

So I've heard. (And gathered, from facebook.) :p HTTYD definitely deserves a re-watch for me.

*waves to stargazer and ly*

Lu, you crack me up with your Elijah Wood fanaticism. :p And, in answer to your questions, back on page 59, I'm not 100% certain whether I like Narnia or LOTR better. Movie-wise, definitely LOTR. As for the the general story, however, I really do enjoy them both. :)
Uh... no, I really don't think Elijah Wood would make a good Rilian. Too many people would be seeing Frodo Baggins instead of Prince Rilian.
I can't decide on one favorite Narnia character, but Sam definitely wins for LOTR. I think you already knew that though.

Dear me, wolfloversk, those brownies and cookies look scrumptious! *mouth waters*

Good to see you, Cep. Sounds like you and Gorse have been doing well these days.

Ara! It's lovely to see you!

Silver.... square cupcakes? Clever and cute. This causes too much stress on my eyes, however, along with the weetabix and brownies and cookies and hot chocolate. x_x
Glad you're finished with the midterms!

Louise! It's marvelous to see another familiar face and that maroon post of yours.
