Hmmm, that just goes to show how observant I've been in the past of Gorse's appearance.

Awww, I qualify as an old timer? How nice! I still feel like a newcomer compared with Lysander. ;))

You forgot Shawna, cepp. And ... oh dear ... I'm forgetting some others too....

The nighttime scenes in Persuasion '95 are rather dark and grainy-looking, I admit, but that's because they used 100% natural light in the film. That's why they're always standing by windows and such. I think it's a neat stylistic choice, as were all the long takes. :D Just watch the first scene of the new version to see what I mean about the darkness of that film. It's just a lot less ... understated than the older movie.

EDIT: I think with all the skipping, the BBC PC ended up being about 30 mins long. ;)) I do wish they had gone for a longer running time with it -- even another half hour would have been better -- but you're right that they packed a lot in there. They still covered at least as much of Lewis' plot as the new movie (note I said Lewis' plot). I still think this is by far the weakest of the BBC adaptations, though, because of the running time, over-young Caspian, female Trufflehunter (!), and extremely awkward incorporation of Caspian's backstory. My favorite thing about it is definitely Trumpkin.

*enters the the Square quoting snatches of songs by Tom Bombadil* If you are wondering who on earth that is then you have yet to read one/four of the best books...

Well well how are my fellow Square Oinions ta-day?

So last night was a really fun night. A ton of my friends and my friends friends and more friends, got together and we played a really big game of flag football. We get together once a month and play a game and then on Super Bowl weekend we have a grill-out and play our last game of the season (which is next month).
Well last night we were able to play in a field with lights and it was a blast!
Course how can you have a game with out injuries? Well I was playing barefoot (along with one of my friends) and everyone else had cleats, and what would you know but I got bruised pretty bad on my foot. Course I had gotten stepped on in other games but this one was the worst. Probably because my feet were freezing before I got stepped on. But I think maybe I might look around for some cleats on sale now ;))

Yes, it is! And, I assume Benjamin is your first name?

Ya, that it is :)
So why do some people call you Aiden?

*waves back to Winter* Hey Winter! I'm doing pretty good, what about you?

*waves to Lys, Mel and Cepp*

And now I bid you all a fine farewell :)

People come. People go. Thats Ditto Town.

And sometimes they come back out of the blue to say "hi" so... HI! :)

*wonders what her sister has to do with a dead raccoon and isn't familiar with this story*

I think my favorite Jane Austin movie is the 2005 Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley which is probably going to make purists shutter. I just love the artistry and music of the thing... I wasn't actually a huge fan of Keira.

Woohoo! It's Ara! Hi! :-h :D

The music and the visuals are definitely the best things about the 2005 Pride and Prejudice. In general, it does make me shudder (although it sticks with the plot of the book -- it's more the tonality of it and the lack of understanding regarding period etiquette that bothers me), but I can appreciate it from that angle, and see why others would like it.

Course how can you have a game with out injuries?

Quite easily. If that does not look like it's possible, you can abstain. That's my strategy in life. ;))

Hello Aravanna! One of these days I WILL get to your area and pay all a visit. That "dead raccoon" incident happened in 2005, I believe. She should remember it as I have brought it up again in the past.

I also suspect shoes would help. ;) Granted, I like going barefoot so I won't give you too hard of a time... only what part of the country are you from? It's WAY too cold for that in the Midwest right now for bare feet.

Yep, I'm not familiar with the period etiquette of Jane Austin's time so that didn't bother me a bit. They all SEEMED to have good propriety (at least the characters that were supposed to did. Lydia and Kitty... not so much.)

I'll have to ask her about that Cep! She's around this weekend. And yes you DO need to get down (up?) to our part of the country! That would be amazing!

Quick update before I start ketchup: My family has remained relatively healthy for the past month or so, I had a lovely Christmas, and our lack of snow on Christmas has been well-made up for. It snowed a week or so ago, and the snow is still on the ground. I love snow when it's falling... but when it sticks around for weeks at a time and melts into absolute slush, well... not so much. :p

Okay, time to ketchup. I've missed the Square! B-)
Page 55:
*waves to Lu of Narnia* How are you doing? I fully intend to keep our PM conversation going, but until I reply, hello! :-h

*nods politely back to Atamar* Pleased to meet you! I'm MountainFireflower, but some people call me Mountie, some people call me Fireflower - along with a rather extensive list of nicknames. ;)) So feel free to shorten my username to whatever!

I'm currently reading them in "chronological" order. I highly recommend doing it. I've noticed a lot of things I didn't notice before.

That's neat! Yeah, I've read them in chronological order, I think. I've read them in both orders but it's been a while. I might have to try it again! What book are you on now?

Well, it's hard to say, because I've only read one chapter of the first book. That was just okay. I would need to read more of it to tell. Right now, I'm busy reading other books. Namely LOTR.

Oh, well let me know what you think of the Space Trilogy! And I do love the LOTR books. :) How are you enjoying them?

*waves back to ValiantArcher!* That is a huge list of people! I'm impressed! Thanks for including me on it. :) How are you doing?

That sounds really super fun!! Me and my family and friends went bowling (I sucked!!), and then we watched movies, tooted horns, and partied. It was really fun.

Yes, it was! Sounds like you had fun too! (Although New Year's Eve seems like ages ago now...) I love bowling (although I'm not very good at it).

I agree - it certainly took a lot of work, so I don't want to do it again immediately.
No, since I started the day after NaNo started, I had no plot, except one that Flambeau told me to use. It was really hard that way. Next time I definitely want a plot.

Same here. I had a vague plot that I thought up mere days before NaNo. That was rough. ;)) I'm already planning out mine for next year. Have you done any writing since November?

Ahh! Mmmm...yum! Thankies! I looove virtual cookies!

Me too! We should start a cafe full of virtual food! 8-} What do you say? We can set up shop right here in the Square! It'd be a hit. ;))

Me too! And those awesome bags/storage things that they have. Forgot what they're called. So do you have any other favorite books/series?

Oh yeah, hollows! I have wanted a cape like Kale's for ages... Too bad I don't know where to find one. :P Oh yes, I have lots. I love LOTR, Narnia (obviously :p), The Kingdom Series & The Knights of Arrethtrae by Chuck Black, The Lauren Holbrook Series & The Maya Davis series by Erynn Mangum. Oh, and quite a few of Ted Dekker's books! ;) How about you?

*gladly accepts that ice cream* Ooh, 'tis chocolate fudge brownie, my favorite! You certainly like giving out food, don't you?

*nods* Yes, yes I do! Which is why having a cafe would be awesome. :p It's ironic though, I absolutely stink at cooking in real life. ;)) I'd rather be writing...

I'm still half surprised that it is 2011, Fireflower. I was so confused - I thought New Years was last night, not the previous. I guess that just shows how I've stayed so up to date during break.

I keep losing track of the date, even now, halfway into January! /:) So how do you feel about 2011 now?

Sure you can come visit! Just signal Scotty! I am doing well. My interim class is taking up almost all of my time, and I had a cold last week, but I'm better. Our kitchen remodeling project is finally done so we're having Christmas dinner today. How are you?

Well, I'm here on the Enterprise now. I thought it was high-time I paid you a visit. What a lovely ship! I really like what you've done with the place. ;)
Oh, school... gotta love it. :p And colds stink. :( I hope you're feeling better! And late Christmas dinners are always fun, they just extend the holidays even longer! ;)

I had an excellent Christmas, Mountie. Present wise, I got a few things that I really wanted (book and soundtracks and money to buy a few more books and a movie...) Family wise, I got to spend time with all my family, which I haven't done in a while which was great. How was your Christmas?

Oh, I'm so glad to hear it! I got everything I wanted, too. It's funny - I got a gift card to one of my favorite stores and I haven't spent it yet just because I already got everything I wanted. :P Oh, yes, family time is the best part of Christmas! How are you enjoying 2011?
*giggles at your 'm' post* That was a marvelous, meticulously molded manner of making known your meditations. ;)

No fear, it's happened to me before as well.

*That is probably the wisest decision. I have tried teaching Cor a few words in Dragon, but he can barely pronounce his own name.... *

Not that I can barely pronounce my own name in regular human speech, mind you!

Yeah, unfortunately after seeing the film a second time last week it just re-enforced to me all of it's faults. *sigh* Still fun, but far short of what it should have been.

Dragon is one of those languages that would be fascinating to learn. Maybe one of these days... :p
;)) Vern, maybe you should start by teaching Cor the phonics of the language. That's how we humans do it. ;)
Oh, how sad. :( I have yet to see it a second time. I'm not sure whether I'll grow to like or dislike it more after my second viewing. We'll see.

Lucy of Narnia, I'm a Lord of the Rings fan! *bounces around, waving her hand in the air wildly*

*waves to Lady Amalthea* How do you grow a chocolate tree, just out of pure curiosity? Do you plant chocolate into the ground? If so, I may have to try it myself. ;)) Oh, and I agree. I really like Gandalf. In the books and in the movies. Either way, he's an awesome character.

Fireflower, funny dream. mmm....I wonder if I can make you dream of other things if I talk about them.

Yeah I figured out how to code the quotes. I was forgetting the " " on each side of the name, but it seems to work fine now. And yes what you did say was understandable

Hmm, it's worth a shot! I am known to have very strange dreams... ;))
Oh good! Glad I could help. :)
How are you doing?

*waves to stargazer* I've seen you before in the NaNo thread! :)

REGARDING SAM VS. FRODO: I am a fan of Sam. That is all. :D

Yes, he can be pretty funny! Hm, I don't know if I've seen that one. I'll have to watch it. He seems like a pretty nice guy, though I'm unsure if he's a Christian or not... Great voice though...
Edit: Ah, I see. "Groban's Garden" is like a series. Cool. I'll still have to watch it sometime.

He's hilarious. I especially love this one, for some strange reason. "Sasquatch...sasquatch..."
I know, that's one downside. He does sing You Raise Me Up, which has been sung by several Christian artists I believe, but I don't know if it's a Christian song. *shrug*
Yeah, Groban's Garden is a series where he cooks things. Actually, it's very reminiscent of my kitchen experiences. ;))
So how are you doing?

Page 56:

Probably not. I'll be too busy getting you some cappuccino and giving you a tour of the Monastery. Now, if the Dark Overlord or the Silvertongued Minion ever became monks. . . hmmm, there's a good chance I'd keel over out of sheer shock.

Oh, don't tempt me...! =;
Haha, yes. I'd keel over in sheer shock too. Stranger things have happened! Were you a monk for LWW and/or PC too?

Yes please! Fancy a cheese puff? I think I have two left.

Thank you! *claims one cheese puff* You are too kind. :) Here's some ice cream as a token of thanks. :) *hands you a bowl*
Regarding journaling: I've been keeping up on it pretty steadily for the past couple of years, but I only really write about big occurrences or things that God has told me. Basically just things I want to look back on when I'm older. It's been great to read through my journals from the past and see how much I've changed.

*waves to CSLewisNarnia* Ah, so you are Bella's sister? 'Tis lovely to meet you! I am MountainFireflower, also known as Mountie, Fireflower, Fie, Flower, Miff, and a handful of other nicknames. ;) If I may ask, what exactly is on your avatar/sig set?

*waves to Jillhope* Hello! I don't believe we've met. I'm MountainFireflower, although I have many nicknames. How are you doing?
You're learning Gaelic! That's one language I think would be fun to learn. Is it very hard? I'm thinking of doing Latin next year. I'm trying to learn Spanish and it's not going so well.

Page 57:
*waves to Benjamin :-h* Good to see you around again! And I love Tenth Avenue North's song On and On, by the way. :)

*waves to Radagast of Mirkwood* I am a huge fan of your username! Also, I am an even bigger fan of your graphics! :D You're a Star Trek fan?! I love Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine!
I also love the Hobbit. My dad read it to me when I was five or six, I think.

I'll continue to pray for you, Sonny!

*waves to Melian_Maia* Oh my goodness, I love your avatar!! And Aragorn is better than Eomer, hands down. :D Also, you love Sam? Me too! We should get along great (oh wait, we already do ;) ). Oh, and I haven't forgotten to reply to your PM. I've just been super super busy (as you can probably guess by my absence in the Square). Expect a reply from me soon! I've missed you!

*waves to Ruby* Hey! Hope you've been doing well! Also, I was impressed by that Youtube video. Your harmonies were great, especially for being thrown together so fast! :) And I love Tenth Avenue North's song, You Are. Any chance of you recording a cover for us? ;;) Oh, and I'm following your blog too. :)

*waves to WinterStar* Hope you get a chance to visit us again soon!

Well, that's good to hear! So, how was Christmas?
Ha, I don't envy you watching the end of Season 3. I absolutely will not watch it. I've heard differing reports on Season 2. I imagine I'll eventually watch it if I get the chance.
Yes, same here. My friend and I are always quoting it.
That's what I've heard.

My Christmas was lovely, how about yours? Despite being snow-less, it was a very enjoyable time. I loved hanging out with family, and all my awesome presents were a bonus. :D How about you?
We finished Season 3. It was annoying. Although, if they HAD to do what they did, I loved the way they did it.

Spoiler
Marian was a nice touch.
But
Spoiler
Allan, oh my goodness. NO! That was just dumb.

Page 58:

As for me, I've always been a fan of Sam, but if I think about it properly, the reason people don't tend to like Frodo is probably just because the Ring corrupts him so much.

Agreed. That's exactly why I don't like Frodo. He's fine in the Fellowship, but as time goes on he just becomes more and more unlikable. At least for me, anyway. I'm too much of a Sam fan anyway. ;))

lol. I don't know why that made me laugh. I don't think my username lends well to nicknames, somehow. On second thoughts, I actually kinda like it. Go ahead and use it if you want.

I know, it made me laugh too! I was just randomly thinking about it, knowing that you might want to be called something other than AC, and Aslee came to mind. So Aslee it is. ;) I'm glad you like it.

After I wrote that I actually went off and listened to the album (long car drives and such) and I have to agree that I kind of miss the silliness. Still, they've had both sides now.. I'm kind of interested to see where the next album will go. Hopefully somewhere good.
Okay, good. I feel bad when the quote is twice as long as someone's reply.

Yeah, I actually have to be in a specific mood to listen to TLDMRBTD, where as with FSASYA, and Mmhmm, I can listen to them pretty much at any time. Mmhmm was the first one I ever bought and it's remained my favorite for pretty much forever, followed closely by FSASYA (they have the longest album titles ever!). I think I like their rock-ish type songs a lot.

It went really well this week - my fingers hardly hurt at all now. And today I was playing while looking through my notes for exams - don't let me tell you how productive that revision session was. xD I can't do bar chords properly, but my mum says that'll probably take a few months. Fun. But I can play in.. G, maybe? Almost. And D. I'll stick to those for now.
Well, then we're equal, I suppose.
Haha, but I expect you're an obsessive fan over things with worth.
lol, I just realized I called Justin Bieber "them".
I hope he can get out and use his talents more, in the future.

Oh, good. Once you build the callouses, it's pretty easy to handle. Although, I've stopped playing for months at a time, and then I have to build the callouses all over again. /:)
Pssst... I can't do bar chords either. I've been playing for about two years and my hands still can't handle them. I've found some cheater versions for bar chords, specifically F and B, so I don't mind if it takes me a little while to learn them. :p If you ever need song recommendations to play, let me know - we seem to have similar taste in music, and I've collected a lot of chords for songs over the years...
Haha, uh, well. It depends on the day. I can obsess over really stupid things. I guess that comes with being human, but I'm really not immune to the teen girl fandoms sweeping the nation. :p
I agree. And don't worry, I knew exactly what you were talking about. ;))

Aww, well I hope you can go!
No.. sadly. We're moving to the UK in July, and I'll stay there for university, presumably. My parents are missionaries, so it just works like that, and I've lived in the UK before, but it's still, I'm not looking forward to it. Too many good friendships to break.. having to go to a British school.. anyway, I know it'll be for the best in the end.
Christmas? Um, just this and that, really. Piano music for this composer I like, a book about music composition, other books.. a DVD, clothes, and such. Oh, and I got an iTunes card, which is always good. How about you?

Still no word on that, but we'll see. Thanks, I hope I get to go too, but God has a plan. :)
Oh wow, I wondered if your parents were missionaries. How do you like it? I'm sorry you're going to have to move, I'll be praying for you.
Oh, awesome. I got some clothes, both Tenth Avenue North CDs, Relient K's FSASYA, and a new mp3 player. So it was a blessed Christmas. :)

*waves to The Epic One* Have they delivered your biscuits yet?

*skim, skim, skim*

*waves to King Lune* May I inquire, what are Weetabix? I have never heard of them before.

Oh, I know how that feels! I've only been posting here for a few weeks, but already I feel funny if I go a few days without posting. I'm glad you're still alive and well! Was beginning to wonder if the aliens had gotten you. I hope the busyness and getting back into a school isn't driving you too crazy!

Yes, I know! I had been in the habit of posting every couple of days until life got me... no, no aliens - but School and Everyday Life teamed up and have done a very good job of kidnapping me. Even so, I've missed the Square. :) Hopefully I'm back... for now. ;)

Lucy of Narnia: You are getting mentioned a lot in this post! Here are my answers to your questions.

What is better: Narnia or LotR? Why? Oh, why do you do this to me? I will not be forced to choose; indeed, I cannot. *sighs and whimpers* Okay, fine.

Spoiler
Narnia
.
Do you like the idea of Elijah Wood as Rilian? Never really thought of it. I think it would be strange having an actor from LotR on Narnia, but he could pull it off, I guess... *shrugs*
Who's your fave character ever in Narnia? LUCY! And Aslan. Actually, I love both Lucy & Aslan together.
LotR? SAM! ARAGORN! MERRY! PIPPIN! Oh... I was supposed to pick one?
What movie is the best? Of what, LotR or Narnia? Of Narnia, I'd have to say LWW. And for LotR, Fellowship & Return of the King are tied for me.

*skimming, more skimming, uberskimming 8-} *

*waves to Cep and Aravanna* Ah, so you are the Heroes of Olde? From the History of Ye Olde Town Square? *bows* 'Tis a pleasure to meet you.

*WAVES ENTHUSIASTICALLY TO ANYONE ELSE I MAY HAVE MISSED*

*falls over* Okay, I'm done!! I shall not wait so long to do a post in here again.
Good mortereve, everyone!

Heavens above Miss Flower-of-the-Fiery-Mountain variety! I do not want to know how long that post took you! Or how much time you spent reading through this thread to answer everyone. Conga rats on that! (Do they still say Conga rats around here? I suddenly feel old. :-s ) I remember trying to reply to everything when I was active a few years ago but my attention span just couldn't take it. It's like trying to have twenty conversations at once, some of which go weeks at a time between replies.

So you did NaNo this year? I participated in that venture in 2009 but my poor novel hasn't gotten much attention since even though I actually really like it and think it has potential. I started trying to edit it a few months ago and discovered that I was competely rewriting everything. So all the work I did will go to waste except for the ideas and structure I came up with... and a little of the character developement. >_<

What's your novel about? Are you going to edit it or was it just excellent writing practise? :)

Elijah Woods as Rillian? Goodness no! He doesn't fit the part at all in my mind. For one thing he's not very princely. :P He's a very good actor who seems like a nice young man, which makes for a good hobbit. However, he doesn't work for a kidnapped prince who has to come across as mysterious and slightly insane at times. (I'd vote for Nathan Fillion if he wasn't way too old. Hee hee. :p )

*waves to Cep and Aravanna* Ah, so you are the Heroes of Olde? From the History of Ye Olde Town Square? *bows* 'Tis a pleasure to meet you.

*snorts* Don't expect me to bow back. I'm too much of a Kansas girl for that. No, I'm more from the dark ages of Ditto Town when all the high culture was going out the window and being replaced by silly newbies like me. I missed the founding of the town and mostly missed the people who instilled it's lovely traditions of creativity and good conversation.

Hello all!
Not to much catchup - but I don't want to many pages gone by, or I'll never get through it all. So here goes. :)
Wolfy!! Thank you so much for the snacks, they were delicious!! ;) *hugs* I'll never forget this!!

Hey, we random college friends aren't that bad! At least, not most of the time. :p I've practically been adopted by a couple of my college friends' families! (We're talking honorary titles and everything.) And remember, Lizzibe Bennett didn't particularly care for Mr. Darcy at first either, and looked what happened! Never mind me ... I kid, of course....

I know - I've always been hoping they'd bring someone home - but not this person!! :p :p But by the last night (of course. X( ) we were a lot more comfortable with him, and we sat around laughing hysterically. That's always fun. :p Aw - that's really sweet!!
lol - I don't think it's quite the proper comparison. But it really made me laugh!! :p
Hi there, FireFlower! Long time no see! :p *hugs*

Yes, it was! Sounds like you had fun too! (Although New Year's Eve seems like ages ago now...) I love bowling (although I'm not very good at it).

We did have a lot of fun - though I completely sucked at bowling. That's what I get for not bowling since last New Years Eve! :P It does seem a long time ago - time's going fast!

Same here. I had a vague plot that I thought up mere days before NaNo. That was rough. ;)) I'm already planning out mine for next year. Have you done any writing since November?

Yeah - that must have been hard too. :) Lets see - I started writing a short story once, but other than that, no. Not even letter writing (which I'm afraid I have to give up). How about you?

Oh, well let me know what you think of the Space Trilogy! And I do love the LOTR books. How are you enjoying them?

I am adoring them more than I have ever adored a book before!!! lol. I'm really picky when it comes to books... to the point of being an extreme book snob... and this is the only book I've ever read where I love it as is. There is nothing about it I would change. That's never hapenned to me with a book before, lol...

Oh my, I can't believe I haven't answered Lucy's questions yet! :-o

What is better: Narnia or LotR? Why? LOTR. See above, lol.

Do you like the idea of Elijah Wood as Rilian? Hmm... yeah, I do. I think he would be great. One bad thing about it is people are already accusing Narnia of "trying to copy" LOTR, so if they get a LOTR actor, then the accusations will soar...

Who's your fave character ever in Narnia? Aslan (duh), Lucy (She's my spiritual role model), Trumpkin (Love his loyalty), Reep (He's inspired so many characters in my own writings), and Puddleglum (Because he's funny). :D

LotR? Oh gosh... I have a lot... And I love just any one of these characters more than all my Narnian favorite characters combined (with the exceptions of Aslan and Lucy). Let's see, I'm going to say -- Pippin, Smeagol, Bilbo, Olorin. (I know most people call him Gandalf, but I like his other name better, lol)

What movie is the best? LWW out of the Narnia series. Although there are scenes in PC which beat all of LWW. but overall LWW is better.
I couldn't say which LOTR film is better.
And, of course, I like LOTR movies more than Narnia movies, just as I do the books. :)

*waves to King Lune* May I inquire, what are Weetabix? I have never heard of them before.

*waves a Royal Wave* My dear Firepower~ (I say- are you from a military family? The Lovely Lady A is from a famous line of fighters, but that is, alas, another story... ;) )

You've never heard of them before what? Ah yes, Weetabix, and what are they? A picture is worth a thousand words, so as they say, "here you go."

And now, I must be off!
