Dinner tasted fine (he'd cooked it), but Jean wasn't very hungry. He brooded over his cup for a while. Then, above the din of the meal, he heard the captain say, ""I don't believe our little wench has had her dinner yet."

He was in the moment in an instant, watching the captain carefully. The captain threw a plate of scraps together and went out of the room, giving Jean a particularly nasty look along the way. How nice.

There wasn't much doubt about where the captain was going. Jean swung his legs out over the bench and stood up. His mates didn't pay him much attention; they were too busy eating. He quickly calculated the distance to the hold and figured that the captain was headed down the normal route there. But Jean knew a different route. Quickly, he ducked into the kitchen (which was empty), opened a trapdoor in the floor to the supply chamber, and slithered down into it.

It was very dark in there, and Jean fumbled for the latch for a moment before finding it. The room he was in was the hold. The ship had been built so as to allow those in the kitchen easy access to the food stored below. Now it allowed Jean easy access to the part of the hold in which the prisoners were kept. He opened the door and slipped out, jogging along the corridor until he was at a place about ten feet away from Aeryn's cell, a place that allowed him to block access to that cell.

Lanon wasn't expecting to intercepted at his target, and was greatly angered at seeing Jean there. He stopped a few feat away from his sailor, staring at him with an expression of hate. "What are you doing here?" he growled, setting the plate down on a stand in the hall. "I want you to stay out of this. What happens to that woman is my concern....not yours, and you will step aside." Captain Seranoy barked.

~~~~~
In the gardens of the Rivera Mansion a shadow moved, hiding in the dark silhouette of an blossoming Crab-Apple, then moving to stand under the trellis. The figure, stood, brittle and alert, waiting. He had seen the stranger come in from the town, and enter the house. He thought he must know something of Aeryn....someone of his sister.
Zachary heard the door upon, and footsteps sounded, he took a quick breath and slipped out of the Garden. He knew he was risking everything.....risking his life. But if Thomas didn't know what he wanted, he had to find out. "Excuse me." he said quietly, getting the strangers attention. He was then aware of his own voice...accented differently then every other being in the country. He was hoping this man wouldn't notice, but he feared he already had. "Lady Aeryn...you must know her since you were here. The servants do not know what has happened...so I thought perhaps you might." he stepped a little closer, meeting eyes with Adrian. "Do you know where they are taking her?"
Terence nodded as Jinna spoke, showing that he was listening. When he saw the parchment, his face darkened and he lowered his brow. He could recognized the crude writing any day. However, the woman folded it back up before he could get a closer look.
Frowning, he said, "It wasn't me, but I know who it was. The boy who wrote that note was my youngest brother, Walter. Unfortunately," his voice lowered in pitch as he spoke, "he is no longer living. There was an accident at the shipyard two years ago..."
Jinna's face had lit up as Terrence had spoken of his brother, then fell when she learned he was dead.
"Please, sir." she whispered. "Is there any way you can help me? Maybe he left something behind, something that spoke of my Gracie." She searched his face with her large, tear-filled eyes and an unmistakable loyalty to her daughter was clearly written on her features. "Please, please sir, I must find her if she is still alive. She will be ten years old now and she is so like my Mark. We all miss her, even the younger ones who were not born and have only known her in the stories we tell them." Jinna sighed deeply and down her pale cheeks tears began to cascade.
Terence exhaled as he pulled handkerchief from his satchel. He pushed it into Jinna's hands and said, "If there were something I could help you with or tell you, I would. But I don't know anything. All I know is that my brother, or someone who writes like him and who used our last name, wrote that note. Walter never said anything to me about it, and if he had told my parents, they would have told me. I know nothing of your daughter and I'm hardly fit to help you find her, but I hope she is found, and soon."
His voice was kind, but firm.
Captain Bradford F. Leeway sat his jug of mead down at the sound of cannon fire. “Well that’s odd; I figured we’d have free reign in this town. Charlie! Jeff, get your stuff! We’re going to figure out what the devil this ruckus is all about”
Jeff cursed and threw down his deck of cards “Hey laddie!” the house said; shuffling the deck “Yah cannot leave without finishing de game!” Jeff rolled his eyes, pulled out his double barreled pistol and shot a hole through the deck, “Ahh shut up, you old landlubber”
The card dealer stood up, drawing his own pistol “That there cost me five pence, blasted pirate! I hope you plan on returning me money.” Jeff rolled his eyes “In what world would a pirate pay for the damages he’s done”
“I could make you repay me, laddie” the man replied, cocking his pistol “Yeah, you and what navy?” Jeff said. Raising his eyebrow and then jumping back as three burly men stood from the table behind the house.
Brad rolled his eyes before drawing his pistols “I suggest you gentlemen sit back down, I wouldn’t want anyone to get hurt” his voice, soaked in sarcasm. The dealer snapped his fingers, and a fight ensued.
Three minutes later, Brad, Charlie and Jeff were thrown out of the bar after the entire employee population of the bar waged war against the three pirates. “Well, that was embarrassing. But it accomplished our goal.” Charlie said, shrugging his shoulders “We got out of the bar”
“Yeah, you don’t tell the crew and I won’t” Brad replied; dusting himself off, “Deal” his two best friends said as they walked down the street towards the source of the cannon fire.
"I'm afraid I can't help you much, either." Riley sighed sadly. "I wish I could. But, I will keep my eyes and ears open, and let you know if I hear anything at all. Do you happen to know what she'd look like now?"
Shay's eyes were bittersweet. "And, well, I don't get around much. But, like Riley said, I'll be of any help if I can."
"I can't do that Captain." said Jean. He was comfortably braced in the hallway as only a sailor could be, swaying with the motion of the ship but keeping his balance all the while. "Last I heard, we're meant to bring prisoners to the Capital Courts in the same condition that we found them. That is, unmolested."
--------
A voice stopped Adrian in his path, and he looked around to find the source. It was a young man with dark hair and fair skin. Something was strange about his voice. "Yes?" He said cautiously when the man approached. "She's on her way to the capital. She's been captured for...." He caught his breath as something clicked. "...treason."
The stranger's voice had a strange accent. That was what was off. What was more, his accent was that of an Anglean. In a flash, his knife was out and pointing at the stranger. "You were her contact, then? She was a traitor?" His voice was filled with pain.
"The courts don't care what condition the prisoners are in, as long as they are breathing and able to speak and stand!" Lanon stepped forward, menacingly. "You have no right to stop me, sailor. I suggest you stand down, now." He took a breath, quavering with anger. "Otherwise I shall have you flogged and thrown over board for the sharks!"
Aeryn, hiding in the darkness of the room, heard the Captain's threat. She gasped, and looked toward the bars covering the space in the door. The Captain was not a man to be trifled with or to defy, as she had seen, and his threat was not an empty one. She couldn't let Jean, a man she had only known for an hour or so, risk his life for her. She slowly stood up, and came to the door, peering out slowly. "If it's that much trouble..." she said in a weak voice, glancing at the plate of food. At once it clicked at what the Captain was doing. "I just won't eat. I'm not hungry anyway."
~~~~~

"No, no!" Zachary said, backing up. "You don't understand!" he had foolishly left his sword hidden with his horse in the garden. "She isn't a traitor! I'm not her contact!" he took a breath, and looked at the dagger in Adrian's hand. "And I'm not inclined to tell you truly who I am, with you pointing a knife at me." he flicked his gaze back up to Adrian's face, pasted with a troubled expression.

(OOC: Sorry guys ...hey, I remembered this time! :D )
Jinna gratefully accepted the handkerchief and blotted her eyes.

"Thank you all, kindly. I am not sure how exactly she looks now, but she had blond hair and blue eyes. She was slim and of a proper height for her age. Her eyes always twinkled when she spoke and she was very energetic, like Mark here." Jinna took that opportunity to wave her hand at Mark, who had wandered off a bit. He came trotting back. Jinna finished wiping her face and smiled bravely. "If your brother has seen her alive, as it appears, at least I know that my hope is better founded. I am just not sure where to begin looking for her; I looked in all of her favorite spots to play. But of course, this must have been a kidnapping, so it is futile to look for her here; after all, my Gracie would never have run away." Jinna sighed heavily and suddenly squared her shoulders. "Perhaps you could tell me where your house is? And where your brother used to play, or other places he would go? Maybe I could start by asking people around those areas if they have seen my Gracie."

Terence was deep in thought. He held up a hand and said, "I can't help you, but I think I know someone who can. It won't be easy to convince her to help, though." He paused. "There's a young woman who lives in the shipyard; she was a very good friend of Walter's. They were rarely separated when Walter was alive."

Jinna's eyes lit up. "Really? Someone who can help me? Please take me to her! I will pay you if you need money for transportation." Jinna quickly rounded up the younger children and smiled at Terence. "If it is not too far, I will be off at once. If it far, I will need to go and see my husband first and tell him where I am going, so he does not worry. He will be so happy!!" Tears came into Jinna's eyes again, but this time they were tears of hope and joy.

"Travel will not be necessary." Terence said. "She is here, in town, at the shipyard. However, I must tell you that she will not appreciate being disturbed, and it's best if I tell her about the situation first." He shifted on his feet. "Where do you live? I will send her to you."

"I live down the dock a ways." Jinna pointed to a small cabin that could just barely be seen from where they stood. "Thank you again! I will wait at home for her, and prepare something good to eat. Maybe that will soften her up a bit." Jinna smiled widely. Suddenly she held up the handkerchief. "If you'd like, I can bring this home and launder it. I was just getting ready to do the washing, but I had to come to Riley's for some soap flakes. Perhaps I can send this back with the woman?"

"No, no, that is quite alright. You may keep it." Terence shook his head and gave a slight chuckle. "Elle would likely rip it on the way home. It is safer with you. And I rarely have need for it."

He bowed his head to the woman and said, "I hope Elle is a help to you. I will return to the shipyard and speak to her now."

Terence looked at Shay. "Now we can talk work, after I deal with Elle."
