Polly is definitely blonde in my head and about the age Lucy looks in LWW. She should have blonde curls, they would make her look younger and very sweet but she needs to be brave (I'm game if you are) and quite strong willed (Diggory wanted to be the one to say change but Polly wouldn't allow it) as a person.
The directors were so lucky to get Georgie Henly, she looked so young but she can really act. I hope they're as lucky with Polly.

I have a Narnia book with a timeline in it that puts Polly being born in 1888 and going to Narnia in 1900. The dates are mostly educated guesses, but it gives you an idea. I agree with Jill that Polly should have blond curls. Here are some outfits from the Dover coloring book "Old-Time Children's Fashions." The first I like mostly for Digory (note the high collar). The second outfit is a lot like the one Lu_valient posted.
Lovely! I I love the dresses, especially the right one on the second picture. I think Polly wore shoes though, not boots as her stockings got wet when she jumped into the pool in the wood between the worlds.

Jill, they would wear stockings with boots, not just shoes.

The pool wasn't very deep without the rings on that is all I meant, it wasn't the stockings I was thinking about.

Lady Arwen, that is a lovely pair of pictures! Very suitable.
The timeline figures are the same as Lewis's own timeline, so you can trust them.
Early in MN Lewis says it happened back when the first reader's grandparents were children. In the early 1950s when the book was written, children of 10 might have grandparents of 55-60 who were about 10/12 in 1900.
There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.

I think Baynes' illustration of Polly (her period dress and hair) shouldn't be messed with.

Good point, that is how generations of children (and adults) have seen Polly, why change it now. Admittedly the best actress might not be blonde but the style could be kept the same, I like it very much!

Totally agree! I love her blond curls and not-so-stiff looking dress. I've always imagined it as green.
Same with Digory!
Here are some pics of old patterns I thought looked nice. They are from this website. http://www.agelesspatterns.com/

Ooh, I like the idea of a green dress! Maybe it'd be better not to be blue or it might look like Alice in Wonderland what with the style of the dress and the blond curls.

I like the idea of a green dress too, except that a more contrasting color might be better for the Wood Between the Worlds.

I feel the same way; but for those who don't like that idea, a navy blue sailor suit wouldn't look too much like Alice.
I didn't think about that....the green in the wood could make her blend in some? But I'm not against a blue dress

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't Polly Plummer wearing a pink dress in Pauline Baynes's illustration?
