[Closed] My Replica of Lucy's Lamppost Dress & Sweater

I haven't posted on here for awhile. My daughter's (Cymru) beautiful little daughter, MY granddaughter, will be dressing as Lucy Pevensie in the Lamppost Dress for this year's costume festivals and trick or treating. She also plans to wear it to the opening of the VDT in December. It is almost an exact duplication of the "Lamppost Dress"

I had help from two very talented artisans and I want to give HUGE props to both of them. I found "PawPawGirl" on Etsy, and I cannot believe how brilliant she is, and how amazingly talented! I commissioned her to custom knit the sweater and she replicated it almost exactly like the original. For the bodice on the dress, Kathy Dykstra of lil-divaduds.com, smocked the bodice for me in the English smocking pattern used in the movie costume. When she shipped the fabric back, I cut out (sweating bullets that I'd ruin that beautiful smocking!) and sewed together the rest of the dress. It was a collaborative effort, but once I decided to do it, I wanted it to be as close to "the real thing" as I could possibly get it, and I am so happy with the way it turned out. My first sewing project in over five years. And I loved it! Especially the look on my granddaughter's face when she saw it! I'll share pics of the movie dress, and of our "replica." Thanks, Anne and Kathy. I could NOT have done this without you!!!

Here's the ORIGINAL costume I was using as my inspiration:

And, even though the colors in these pics look a little funky, with the above picture hanging right next to our dress, they looked almost exactly alike! I'll also put links to the full-size photos down below because apparently these photos are too large to see here.

Oh my goodness, this is wonderful. I don't think it could possibly be closer to the original. Great job! :D

Did you find a green hairbow too? :)

Edit: I also love the hankie! That is an amazing little touch, and my favorite part of the whole costume!

That is one incredibly lucky granddaughter. :D

Absolutely gorgeous work from everyone involved.

Oh, and the hankie. Are there initials on it? :D *is also curious as to what the inside of the sweater looks like*

I still have to find the hairbow or make one. :) :)

Hopefully, we'll get some pictures of London in it soon!

Oh yeah, the hairbow will be easy. Cymru had London's hair trimmed back to chin length just for good measure...she already had the same style as Lucy but it had grown out quite a bit over the summer. And she's always had the black hair and big blue eyes. The little brown Mary Jane shoes were pretty easy to come by from Ebay, although I had to buy three pairs, in gradually increasing sizes, to find a pair to fit her comfortably enough that she can trick-or-treat painlessly. Apparently her feet are growing. LOL.

This is really well done! I have seen the photos of your granddaughter in the outfit, and it's lovely!!

Thanks! She wore it to our downtown fall festival on the 16th and Cymru was right alongside her as Mr. Tumnus. They were both SO cute!!

any chance you might try your hand at making Lucy's VotDT outfit? :)

Very beautifully done, daughteroflight! It looks so, so similar to the original Lucy wears, up to the very details on the cardigan and the smocked part of her dress. It's great that you made this for your granddaughter, she must really appreciate it. :)

Liberty, the only chance would be if my daughter or granddaughter wanted it. ;) I am so slow, and so persnickity about details, that if I did this for a living, it would probably figure out to about twelve cents an hour. :D I looked several pictures of that outfit and it really looks pretty do-able.
