Help me!! I would like my sister to make me Susan's farewell dress for the Dawn Treader premier, and she has agreed, but she wants 2 things:
1) A pattern of a long strapless princess seam dress for the blue part
2) A pattern of a long princess-y dress for the white part. However, she doesn't want to do the poofy sleeves (which is okay, because I don't like them) so we're going to have to find some with just long sleeves, but not like, to the floor. The length and overall size of Susan's, just not so poofy. And, one more problem: The neck needs to come up higher than it does in the movie, to cover my shoulders and so it won't be so low in the neck and whatnot.

I have no idea where I'm going to get either of them, and was wondering if anyone had any ideas. I know at least one person has made the dress (though I can't remember who), and just thought y'all might have some ideas. :) Thanks for any help you can give.

Thats cool that top look a heck of a lot similar to the one Caspian wore in the movie. Is it Susan or Lucy on the far left?.

Actually, the costume is nearly identical to the one Caspian wore in the movie (except the belt.) I made it as a copy. ;)

That's "grown-up" Queen Lucy on the left. Susan was late to the photo shoot.

Your costumes are fabulously detailed, Wicked Swann! I'd love more info!

How did you do the embroidery on Peter's Overtunic?

What about the embroidery on Edmund's Tabard?

Real chainmaille? What are Edmund's gauntlets(?) made of?

Do you have any more pictures?!

YOU ARE CRAZILY TALENTED! :D

Thank you! Each person in the photo did her own costume. I only made the Caspian. My friends are crazy talented, though. ;)

Peter's and Edmund's embroidery is done in paint - it looks STUNNING even close up!

Edmund made her chain maille herself! I'd have to ask about the gauntlets since I don't recall taking a close look at them.

Here are more photos from the photo shoot. I'll just list the links so as not to overwhelm the message board.

I really need to make a better belt for Caspian.

Oh, and here's one of my "normal" Caspian...

Incredible costumes, Wicked Swann! B-) Especially your top - how did you do the embroidery? Was it by hand or machine? Did you draft the shirt pattern yourself?

Thank you! I actually did the embroidery on the shirt in fabric paint. I first tried to do it with machine embroidery, on a friend's machine, but neither of us knew how to use the machine and it came out horrible. I imagine if I had my own machine and plenty of time, I could eventually learn it, but it was not to be. I decided to try doing one with fabric paint as a test, and it came out really great, so I kept it. Eventually I plan to attempt to hand embroider one. I just need a year or so to do it! I hand embroidered the pants and they came out fairly well. I had never embroidered before.

I started with a pirate shirt pattern and modified the shoulders and cuffs. If I do a second one, I will add the smocking on the arms and the trim on the collar and cuffs.

Really?!? Well, it certainly looks like embroidery in the pictures - I think it is beautiful!

Thanks for the details on the top. :D I want to sew a Narnian-style blouse and I *think* I now have some ideas as to how to do it. Photos of other people's projects are always an inspiration to me! 8-| :D

I'm very pleased with how the whole outfit photographs. The embroidery/paint is a little bigger than the one on the actual shirt because I thought it would stand out better in photos (and it took less time that way than to do it tiny, heh.)

Good luck with your projects - I'm always happy to answer questions on what I make or give suggestions if you need them! Be sure to post photos when you're done! :)
