Pre-lord of the rings. Is Silmarillion possible? They don't say that, but the rights were sold by the Tolkien Estate soooo...
A Silmarillion show would be fascinating, but it says the show will "explore new storylines preceding J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring" that sound like it will be an original story, which doesn't interest me, but who knows maybe it could be good.
Honestly I'm just glad it's not a re-adaptation of Lord of The Rings, which is what I thought this was at first, I have no desire to see that any time soon.
We don't have TV anymore, we just check out DVDs from the library or buy them if we like it. It was during the either season 3 or season 4 of Leverage when we got it shut off. Leverage was the last new show I liked. Well I like CSI Miami and Avatar the last Airbender too. I'm usually more into older shows, like Perry Mason, Beverly Hillbillies, and I recently got into The Avengers(the 60s show obviously, not the Marvel comic one). Oh Red Green is good too, and Diagnosis Murder and Murder She Wrote. My all-time favorite show would be Xena though. Yes, I am all over the place
Hahaha Kalta, that's cool though. I'm not much of a TV person. I love Avatar: The Last Airbender as well, and Stargate SG-1 through season... 8 I think? For a while I enjoyed most of Food Network's not-so-reality tv shows. If the History and Science channels would show history and science, that's probably what I'd be into.
I just recently got done watching CNN's The Sixties, The Seventies, and The Eighties on Netflix. Heads up if you're into that sort of thing, there's an episode in the Seventies that has very graphic nudity. Caught me off guard because all the other episodes that have anything like that censored it. At least my kids weren't around. Anyways, I found them very interesting, but I can't talk about them too much here because they were heavily political.
Going back to the LotR TV discussion, if it turns out to be canon, I might be interested. If it's "fanfiction" then they've probably lost me. There are some stories that just shouldn't be messed with imho.
My sister and I have just two episodes of The Wild Wild West left to watch, she asked to watch it for her birthday and I am glad isn't too far off. TWWW is easily one of my favorite shows ever, seriously who doesn't love Jim and Artie?
When Calls The Heart season 5 starts February 18! I am so super excited, and still a little surprise that WTCH is already to 5 seasons. I remember missing the first 2 episodes on Hallmark and almost deciding not to check out the show, so glad my sisters and I did.
Kalta, my sisters and I love getting older TV shows from the library. I am looking forward to checking some new ones in the spring (we don't check out very many DVDs in the winter do to the winter weather/road conditions). My Dad has mention watching the 1960s Avengers show, I wish our library system had it. I think we are going to try Perry Mason this year.

For our anniversary, my husband and I watched Season 1 of Stranger Things. It was good, I admit, and there were parts I enjoyed, however, as I'm still waking up with scenes from the show on repeat in my head and therefore not being able to fall back to sleep, I guess I will just never be a big fan of anything Horror:lite.
I plan to watch Season 2 at some point so I can catch up on all things pop-culture, but I'd like to catch up on sleep first.
My recent trip to Seattle had a long rainy stretch, so I binge-watched a few things, including Stranger Things season 2. I liked it but it didn't have the novelty of season 1, which is a common occurrence I think.
SnowAngel, my sister-in-law is a fan of all things Hallmark Channel so I saw the Christmas episode of When Calls the Heart. It was my first exposure to the series and was enjoyable enough. My sister-in-law, though, called several aspects of the plot very early in the episode.
I also caught up on Designated Suvivor, Keifer Sutherland's political thriller, as well as Once Upon A Time. The latter is
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
After a conversation with Mom and Scarlet, we decide to get Perry Mason season 1 volume 1 from the library. And five episodes later, we are thoroughly enjoying it.
stargazer, Hallmark is always predicable even with their TV shows. But When Calls The Heart is easily their best show to date. My mom, sisters, and I enjoy being able to watch something new all together down to the youngest, and sometimes the guys will watch it too. Although I believe the lack of Mountie Jack in the last season made it less interesting for the guys than previous seasons.

It's back! When Calls The Heart season 5 premiered last Sunday, and it was good especially considering Mountie Jack wasn't in it. Rosemary and Lee had some great scenes and lines. Julie (Elizabeth's younger sister) showed up in Hope Valley near the beginning of the episode and it looks like she might be around for several episodes possibly until Jack and Elizabeth's wedding! *excited squeal*
Jack's return is to be in episode 3 with lots of planning for the big day to follow. It's really happening this season, Elizabeth will be Mrs. Jack Thornton in season 5 episode 5 (airing March 18, 2018). Spoiler pictures show
My current avatar is from WCTH S5 E5 before the wedding.
On another note, one of my sisters and I are working our way through the first season of The Big Valley (1965-1969). I love westerns, so no surprise that we are enjoying it.

SnowAngel, I have vague memories of watching The Big Valley back in tihe day. My father loved watching Westerns, so shows like Gunsmoke and Bonanza were also regular viewing back then.
My TV viewing the past couple weeks has been mostly limited to the Olympics and local weather reports (since we've had several respectable snowfalls this month).

Ahhhh. . . . I remember watching The Big Valley back in the day. Lee Majors was quite the heart throb.

Over the past week or so, i've been watching Travelers -- a Canadian show about time travelers that is also streamed on Netflix. There are two seasons so far, with a third one supposed to come out late this year.
Centuries in the future, man-made and natural disasters have rendered the Earth almost unlivable and brought humanity to the edge of extinction. The remaining humans have developed a plan, overseen by a powerful AI called the Director, to change history, and send trained specialists (travelers) back in time to enact it. The show centers on one team of five travelers, sometimes focusing on the missions they take as part of the grand plan, sometimes focusing more on their attempts to adapt to the 21st century.
A few episodes in i told my dad (he started watching it first) that while i wasn't terribly invested in the overarching plot, i was invested in the characters -- he agreed, and said he thought that might have been the intent. I think that's true, especially of the first season. The "grand plan" is kept vague, with traveler teams not necessarily even knowing how their particular mission affects the grander scheme, and while various characters interfere, there's no overarching antagonist until season two.
Those who like Stargate might be interested to know that it's created by the same guy, Brad Wright, and season two has Amanda Tapping (Samantha Carter) as a minor character in a few episodes.
It has some content issues -- it's rated TV-MA, i think, but while there are some gruesome moments and multiple uses of bad words, overall i'd say it's about equal to network shows.

My sister and I really enjoyed the first season of The Big Valley, I wish the DVDs for season 2-4 were better quality since I would like to add them to my collection as well. My sister has taken to occasionally calling me Nick since I have similar temperament and some of the same character traits (like yelling for siblings if that's actually considered a character trait).
WCTH fans, don't watch the last two episodes of season five! They killed Mountie Jack. I read all of the spoilers and I am so not going to watch them and possibly future episodes as well since they (Hallmark, the producers, etc.) have completely changed the show, they handled Daniel Lissing (who plays Jack Thornton) leaving the show very poorly. Unfortunately the ratings didn't go down for the season finale and so I think Hallmark thinks the fans will be fine with changes in the show. *insert Mr. Knightley telling Emma "badly done indeed".*
I have about had it with newer shows, they always disappoint. So my sister and I watching The Six Million Dollar Man (currently nearing the end of season 2) and having fun.

What??? I had not heard about that!!
They changed the show completely from the original Janette Oke books, which is my favorite series of hers.
So, was the actor planning on leaving the show before they killed him off?
Love God, love people
Janette Oke? I've read one of her books, was hard to get used to the first person narrative but it was a nice book. I have never understood why when people think a book is good enough to turn into a show/movie they have to change almost everything but the title and the character's names. Did I already complain about this? I've done it so many times...was talking at the church potluck two Sundays ago about how there seems to be a lack of originality in Hollywood lately. I've seen previews for WCTH, but I thought it was a TV movie...it's an actual series? But it turns out not that great?
