BBC has announced they're producing a 6-episode series of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell that will (if i'm reading correctly) will come out in 2013; or perhaps just be produced in 2013? News is relatively scarce at this point.
On the one hand - i'm very excited about this. A BBC TV adaption is definitely a better idea than a movie as far as accuracy-to-book goes, and they're usually pretty reliable as far as adaptions go.
On the other hand - the low budget of a TV series isn't too promising for a story with about a gazillion different magical effects. I'm more concerned that even a 6-episode series will have to leave out too much of the story. I mean, the book is almost 800 pages long, takes place over ten years, with a cast list that Dickens himself would admire.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see ...

Oh, wow, that's exciting, Arwenel! On the upside of the downside, special effects have been getting better and are cheaper now than they used to be, so hopefully there'll be some decent ones. I'm pretty sure there will be pieces of the book that get left out regardless, so hopefully it'll be as close as they can get it and still a coherent story.
I guess I'm trying to be cautiously optimistic, but that's still pretty exciting.
To the future, to the past - anywhere provided it's together.
flambeau, I'm enjoying season 2 of Person of Interest too, especially the backstory development you referred to in your spoiler. Last week's episode was good. qwertykate, I like the addition of Bear too.
Downton Abbey - a friend (Ryadian's mother) recently began watching this from episode 1, and I've seen some of it as well. Can you believe, all this time I'd been reading the title (on DVDs and such) as Downtown Abbey?
Looking forward to the BBC treatment of JS&MN. As far as special effects, they've done well with those on Doctor Who.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
I thought it was downtown abbey when i first saw the show but than i thought that sounded weird for the place it is.
A few of my favorite TV shows would have to be Doctor Who, Sherlock, Merlin, Once Upon a Time, Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, and Full House... just to name a few. I think that I Love Lucy is also a really great show, since you mentioned it, I watch it with my family all the time!

So, Once Upon a Time had its winter finale ...
The mixed feelings continue with Emma's "power" against Cora. While i have to say it's nice to see there are solutions to the whole rip-out-your-heart magic, there had better be some good explanations beyond her being "the product of true love". What, Snow White wasn't the product of true love? Charming wasn't? Nobody else ever has ever been the product of true love? Or does everybody who is the product of true love have special powers?
Cora is a villain i will be happy to see die. I'm more mixed on Hook; but if he's really and truly willing to work with Cora, i don't have a whole lot of sympathy for him.
Finally, while it is nice to see Gold and Regina occasionally working for the good agenda as opposed to their own, i'm concerned about how it's going to play out - particularly for Regina. Her mother ruined her life, yes, but she's done a lot of inexcusable things since then, and just being nice to Henry and Emma and everyone now isn't going to make up for that. I know various elements of the fanbase have lost sight of that; i just hope the writers don't.

One other OUAT thing i forgot to mention - took place in the episode before the latest one:

@ AC, I haven't seen Elementary myself, but from what I've heard the Holmes/Watson interaction is entirely platonic, not romantic. I can't vouch for the content in the rest of the show though, so I can't say if it's worth watching.
Elementary is actually not that bad. I thought it looked silly when I first saw the preview and wasn't going to watch it ... but then I got bored. Johnny Lee Miller is fantastic as Holmes. Lucy Liu is still growing on me as Watson. Content-wise, I'd say you're safe, if you're concerned about language and relationships. So far, Holmes and Watson only work together; I wouldn't even call them friends just now. Otherwise, it is a murder mystery show.
Okay, thanks very much you two. It sounds okay, but I'm afraid I'll judge his acting too much.
I loved Miller in BBC's Emma, he seemed to fit the role exactly, it'll be weird to see him play a slightly eccentric detective, in modern day New York.
But I'll give it a shot sometime.
Upstairs, Downstairs is pretty decent from what I remember. It's like Downton Abbey only in a different time period (right before World War II breaks out). I haven't caught up on the rest of season two, but I do believe there is an affair involved in a later plot.
Thanks you! I'd heard of it before, it's a pretty long running show, (Judi Dench was in it when she was younger...)but I didn't know if it was more of a soap opera than just a drama.

I started watching Buffy the vampire slayer! It's awesome
I really liked Buffy the Vampire Slayer - until they hit the college years. Even then they had some good episodes, but it just lost something.
Further up and further in!!
Saved by the Bell the college years is awesome. I especially love the Wedding Plans episode because I ship Zack and Kelly

Overall, I'd give it a PG rating, only things to watch out for for the young ones is the violence and death, and kissing, if that bothers you. (It shows people who are dead.) And my only personal complaint is one part were her dress was low-er cut. But it doesn't last long. But it's clean, I was actually surprised...her dress was the only fault I'd found, but even that was scandalous.
But it was so very good. Easily one of my favorite BBC period dramas.

News going around that there's going to be a spin off show from Boy Meets World and are going to call it "Girl meets World" about Cory and Topanga's daughter Riley and this time Cory is going to follow his daughter and her best friend throughout school as a science and history teacher. Seems legit and I cannot wait for it to come out.
