warrior4jesus: Thanks for the heads up about Torchwood. I'm a DW fan and was really disappointed when I heard about the sexual overtones. I'm so happy you found a few good episodes! :) I'll definitely go check it out.

I love genre shows - sci-fi/fantasy and period drama, mostly - and found the series Firefly. It looks right up my alley, with a combo of outer-space and westerny goodness. :p FOX canceled it after one season, but fellow fans of other shows I like all rave about it.

I trust you guys a little more than them, though. ;)) Whad'ya think? Is it worth a watch?

Firefly is fantastic but it was never completed. Still a brilliant watch though. Great humour, quality scripts and dialogue, characters and character development.

Yes, Torchwood: Children of Earth is amazing. It's Season 3 of Torchwood but it's short (only 5 episodes) so it's a miniseries, each episode is close to one hour long.

Firefly is amazing. ;)) It does have a movie "completing" the storyline. The movie is called Serenity, but don't watch it until you've seen the season. ;)) I'm really sad it only went for one season as it was the only TV show I've seen where I can't choose a favorite character, they're all extremely well developed despite the fact there's only 13 episodes and a movie.

I'd definitely recommend it. There are a few subtle sexual references throughout the show (a few of them are overt but brief) and it can be rather violent at times. I wouldn't recommend it for kids or young teens. Older teens and adults would enjoy it though. :)

I'll add another recommendation for Firefly (in fact, I first learned about it from NarniaWebbers). It's rich with character and plot development, humor, and good writing.

As Rising_Star mentioned, there is some questionable content here and there, but less than some US network shows have now.

One issue with its cancellation (according to fans) is that the episodes weren't aired in order. I suggest watching the 2-part "Serenity" pilot episode (not the move of the same name!) first, then moving on to "The Train Job" and the rest. It's not crucial, but I think it'll help you appreciate the way the series develops.

I was leery of Firefly when I first watched it but I fell in love with it along with everyone else. ;)) I must also give my recommendation! All the characters are great, so I have no one particular favorite, although Jayne would probably be the closest. ;))

I can't wait for Glee to start! I got into The Glee Project over the summer mostly because I was a fan of Celtic Thunder and one of their members, Damian, was a contestant. Damian actually ended up being one of the two winners. I'm excited to see what his character will be and how he'll integrate into the rest of the cast.

I'm also a huge 'Amazing Race' fan which starts later this month.

Ok, first off... should I be offended or not by the fact that my childhood shows are being called "old"? :p Try waiting another ten or more years before saying the 90's stuff is old. It seems too soon to me, but part of that is because I lived them, and don't like being called old. =))

Have you ever tried:

Step by Step
Sister Sister
Boy Meets World
Full House
Saved by the Bell
Family Matters
Fresh Prince of Bel Air

I grew up on those shows. I don't like half of them anymore, but for their time I loved them all. I used to really enjoy Brotherly Love and Blossom too.

I don't think I ever saw Brotherly Love or Blossom... but I can heartily recommend the ones narnian1 mentioned. I LOVED them! Still do... mostly. :)

Speaking of which, I'm curious as to which ones are the liked and disliked. narnian1, you don't have to answer if you don't want to.

I think that with Family Matters I'd go between loving and hating it when I was a kid (and maybe even now, to some degree). Saved by the Bell, I loved... then hated, then loved again (which is where it has stayed...loving it). The rest are awesome too! But, I could be biased. ;)

I could think up a few from the 80's and 90's if anyone is interested...
One of the few I can think up off the top of my head is Home Improvement. LOVED that show... and spent a good deal of my growing up years watching that show. Have half of the seasons on dvd now, even. But it was/is one of my fave shows... so, yeah. 8-|

Libby, why am I not surprised that you've started watching Melissa and Joey? :p

Ohhh, right! I almost forgot!! Tarkheena, add me to the list of Firefly fans. Blame the other mods... they got me to watch it in 2007, and I've been a fan ever since! In fact, a few weeks after I saw it with some of them, I went out and bought the series! ;)) Again, some parts are questionable... but for the most part it's amazing. I'd be curious about your reaction if/when you ever get around to seeing it. :)

Question, has anyone else been watching the shows on SyFy lately? Sometimes, as much as I love them, it'd be even more fun to talk about them with others. (vs keeping it all to myself) So, yeah... pm me? (if you watch Warehouse 13, Eureka, and Alphas) Thanks!

((I apologise for the amount of smilies in this post))

Started watching Firefly, and am loving it so far. :) I just finished "Safe," which I think is the fifth episode - since I'm watching them in chronological order, not the order they aired. ;)) Bawled my eyes out at the end when

Spoiler
River gets tied to the stake; and Simon climbs up, wraps his arms around her, and tells them to light it. Their brother/sister relationship is beautiful.

Anyone else excited that Merlin is coming back in less than a month? :D

Ohh, that's one of my favourite episodes!! And yeah, I love Simon and River's sibling relationship... it's one of the best parts of the show. :D :D

Just sayin' for future reference... even though "Jaynestown" is funny period... it's even funnier at 2am. Trust me on that. So, if you ever want a real good laugh after a hard day... watch it really late at night. It makes it that much more fun!

And sorry to do this to you, but I don't want to dig out the order, and it's been awhile since I've watched my dvds... what are the first five episodes? I'm curious as to what things I can bring up to you without spoiling things. :p

....
Also, you've got me curious about Merlin's scheduling. Is it less than a month away for the UK, or for the US? Cause if it's for the UK, then I've still got ages to wait. :p But if SyFy is showing it in that amount of time, then.... HURRY UP AND GET HERE ALREADY!!!!!!! =))

Which reminds me... I need to put seasons 2 & 3 on my birthday/christmas list. ;))

*realises something*
Ohhhhh!!!!!! It's just a few months til my Smallville box set arrives!!!!! :D :D
*realises something else, and then... headdesk*

Firefly was decent. Had a lot of good lines, and i liked most of the characters. There was something i never quite liked about it, though. Not really sure what. And i really didn't like the movie. Probably should re-watch some of it, since i own the DVDs and all ...

A couple weeks ago i bought Seasons 1 and 2 of Leverage, and a few days ago i got Season 3. By now i've seen all of the first two seasons, and am working my way through the third, but between work and two siblings insisting on watching it with me, it's a bit slow-going.

Definitely my newest favorite show.

Decent? Decent? It was amazing. The dialogue and characters were brilliant and very well-developed. The humour was great and the world was interesting but grounded.

Difference of opinion, Warrior 4 Jesus, ;))

I did like it - as i said, a lot of good lines, well-developed characters, story-lines, etc. But there was something off-putting about it at the same time for me. Part of it just might be i heard it praised to the skies by so many people that when i didn't like it every bit as much as they did, it seemed to fall a little short.

Merlin Series 4 starts airing in the UK in the beginning of October. I can't find anything official, but it sounds like SyFy is planning on airing Series 4 in the states sometime early in 2012.
I'm looking forward to it, though I suppose it's too much to hope that Lancelot falls off a cliff or something before it starts? ;))

Glad you're enjoying Leverage, Arwenel! :D We're currently working our way through third season too; I think we're about halfway through (we just saw The Three Card Monte Job), though we're moving slow as well (try to co-ordinate with several siblings with varying school/work schedules and a parent). I really love the team dynamic; even when they're bickering and such, they all look out for each other. :)

I've heard great things about Firefly as well, but I've also heard some negative things. I haven't actually seen it, but some of my family watched at least some of it, and their reactions varied between liking it, not getting into it, and not finishing it because they didn't like it (largely due to some of the objectionable content). So, I think it really is a matter of opinion. :) And hype can help turn things one way or the other with people. ;))
